Aibu to think a roast dinner doesn't necessarily need roast potatoes?

Title says it all really. For me so long as you have a roasted bit of meat on the go and maybe some roasted veggies, well then that's fair enough to constitute a roast. Is it just me who thinks roast potatoes are abit unnecessary?

YABU. It is a dinner. But not a true roast.

Not unreasonable at all, but I love roast potatoes, for me they are nearly the best bit. But my mum isn't fond of them and prefers roast parsnips.

They aren't 'necessary' but I prefer them. They add a bit of flavour or at the very least you need a bit of garlic potato

Otherwise it's a very ordinary midweek meal IMO

For me a roast dinner IS roast potatoes.

I like roast potatoes and roast parsnips. I can't get my head around the concept of roast potatoes being "unnecessary" with a roast dinner!

Meat. Roast potatoes. Any form of veg, preferably just boiled actually.,

No roast potatoes = no roast dinner.

DD doesn't really like potatoes so we often do a mixture of parsnips and sweet potatoes with our roast instead.

I wouldn't want Christmas dinner without roasties though.

I think roast potatoes are massively overrated, so YANBU. I do mashed potatoes instead.

To me a roast dinner includes roast meat and roast potatoes.

Lots of other things are nice, but without those two it isn't a roast dinner, it's just a dinner.

I had a roast with no roast potatoes last week, the carrots and parsnips were roasted, as was the beef.
we also had baked onions eith cream and parmesan, and cavalo nero eith butter and bacon, and lashings of red wine gravy

It's meat and veg, not a roast dinner.

I'd rather have it without the meat than without the roasties. Roasted veggies OTOH are not acceptable, it makes them go all sweet, far better suited to a Mediterranean type meal. Steamed, plain veg only for me.

Yabu, I would rather have the roasties than the meat. Especially when DH makes them!
