Title says it all really. For me so long as you have a roasted bit of meat on the go and maybe some roasted veggies, well then that's fair enough to constitute a roast. Is it just me who thinks roast potatoes are abit unnecessary?

you lot are fucking nuts

Without roast potatoes it's just a cooked dinner. To be a roast dinner it definitely needs roast spuds

So to summarise, yabu!!Smile

Laska42 · 20/11/2014 19:11

Thank you for your understanding summersisle.. writing it down wasnt that cathartic actually.. ..I have just had to have that glass of Wine ...

ipswichwitch · 20/11/2014 19:14

Roast potatoes unnecessary?!?!?!?!
Oh lord won't somebody PLEASE think of the children!

Laska42 · 20/11/2014 19:16

.. AND they ate all the ff'in pigs in blankets also .. Its a wonder I never divorced him..

Clarabumps · 20/11/2014 19:18

YABU.

Mash does not a roast make.

Roussette · 20/11/2014 19:21

To even have such a thought is BLASPHEMY. Really! I can only presume OP that you can't cook them!

(BTW occasionally I get them just right, crispy crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and then stare at them in wondrous rapture, occasionally they are just good, occasionally they are just roast potatoes but I can hoover them up whatever they taste like!)

FoxgloveFairy · 20/11/2014 19:21

Team roastie here I'm afraid!

Wantsunshine · 20/11/2014 19:31

I am going to report this thread and the troll for being potatoist.

I really have heard it all now a roast without potatoes utterly ridiculous!

TillHammerZeit · 20/11/2014 19:34

MyGhost. I've had many, many people's roast potatoes,,and I can cook some good ones myself, but I'd still much rather have dauphinois,or boiled new potatoes with garlic and herb butter,or mint, or mash or almost any other variation on the potato. They're vastly overrated,as are roast dinners generally.

StillSquirrelling · 20/11/2014 19:39

I'm not even going to bother reading any of the other posts. My response to you is: YABVFU

TillHammerZeit gasp
Dauphinois, boiled, mashed, rosemaried and garlicked - all most delicious at the right time.
But a roast dinner needs roast potatoes
Charlatan!

Alconleigh · 20/11/2014 20:02

I STILL moan about the time, 5 years ago, when I had a roast in a pub and they served boiled new potatoes with it. I nearly fucking cried. Actual tears.

This is one of the most unreasonable OPs ever!

Laska42 · 20/11/2014 20:06

alconleigh I hope you left without paying.. although I would never usually advocate such behaviour It would have been quite justifiable..

..
Any reasonable magistrate would accquion those grounds..

Laska42 · 20/11/2014 20:08

acquit..

TillHammerZeit · 20/11/2014 20:11

Are roast new potatoes acceptable? I think they're much nicer than the usual sort of roast potato.

SockQueen · 20/11/2014 20:12

Laska I feel your pain - that's even worse than my story! No PiBs either? Shock

mumof6needssanity · 20/11/2014 20:20

Yabvvvvvu

A roast dinner is not a roast dinner without roast potatoes

Bangs gavel

Pipbin · 20/11/2014 20:23

The OP thinks everyone else is nuts? We aren't the nutter who thinks you can call a dinner a roast without roast potatoes?

I am a veggie so I will have a roast dinner without the meat. If I didn't have roast potatoes then there is nothing roast about it.
And you can't agree to disagree about this.
Put simply op it's like you came on and posted that black was white and everyone said that you were wrong but you won't listen.

trixymalixy · 20/11/2014 20:29

I'm with you OP, I would rather have mash than roast potatoes. I quite often make them for the rest of the family and then don't eat any myself.

Everyone else in my family would think YABU though!

TentUpFirstBunkUpLater · 20/11/2014 20:30

Roast potatoes are never necessary nor mandatory.

Certainly not my favourite and I'd walk past them in favour of a lovely boiled/new potato with parsley and butter.

DH often says: 'Don't bother with roast potatoes if you can't be arsed'

lougle · 20/11/2014 20:31

Have not RTFT because on this occasion nothing will sway me:

YABU x infinity + 1 (returns to former childhood)

Alconleigh · 20/11/2014 20:51

Pass up a roast potato in favour of a boiled one?! Have you completely taken leave of your senses, TentUp?!

Alconleigh · 20/11/2014 20:51

Laska; I have no idea what happened next. I've blocked the trauma from my memory.
