Aibu to think a roast dinner doesn't necessarily need roast potatoes?

Title says it all really. For me so long as you have a roasted bit of meat on the go and maybe some roasted veggies, well then that's fair enough to constitute a roast. Is it just me who thinks roast potatoes are abit unnecessary?

PigletJohn · 22/11/2014 00:12

YABVU

and there should be roast parsnips too.

We do that thing where we leave a few and they go into a bowl in the fridge and every single person that opens the fridge thinks 'oh I'll just have a teeny one' and by morning, there's just an empty bowl on the shelf, bereft of potatoes

ravenAK · 22/11/2014 00:41

I deliberately cook FAR too many & shove the leftovers in the fridge to make bombay potatoes to go with Monday's curry.

Bizarrely, however, the little blighters invariably escape & leave me with an empty bowl.

OddFodd · 22/11/2014 00:49

'Too many roast potatoes' is truly an oxymoron in my experience

Sunday dinner is greedy dinner. So:

Meat,
Mash,
Roast potatoes,
Roast parsnips,
Stuffing or Yorkshires depending on meat,
Sprouts or Savoy cabbage,
Carrots,
Gravy.

Perfect.

YANBU in the slightest.

I make a roast dinner once a week with roast joint of some description (normally beef or chicken, I have unadventurous children), roast veggies and proper made-from-the-pan-crispy-bits gravy.

And I serve it with creamed cauliflower, we're low carbing and potatoes are out. It's still a roast, it's still yummy. The boys have mashed potato if they want some.

Bulbasaur · 22/11/2014 03:16

We will never be friends.

HicDraconis · 22/11/2014 03:18

I also serve it with some of the very good local wines :)

BingoBonkers · 22/11/2014 03:19

Go wash your mouth out! Roasties are the best bit!!

Bifflepants · 22/11/2014 05:18

I have never heard of anything more unreasonable. You should be banned from this site for life.

YABU. The most important part of the meal.

YABVVVU

BathshebaDarkstone · 22/11/2014 07:16

YABU. You've definitely got to have roast potatoes. Smile

BathshebaDarkstone · 22/11/2014 07:34

The DC and I are going out for a pub lunch tomorrow, DD and I will have a roast dinner WITH ROAST POTATOES! DS will probably have chicken nuggets, but he is 3! Grin

Roast dinner without roast potatoes?

It's the LAW that you have to do roast potatoes with a roast dinner.

What next, egg and chips without bread and butter?

Cup of tea and no biscuits?

It's the beginning of the end.
