To wonder why people without children post here?

I have children, but I'm in the US, not the UK. I was directed here last Christmas by another site. I just stuck around.

And yes - like others I stumbled upon it by accident, and stayed for the entertaining bunfights chatter

Mumsnet is well known - there are representatives on bbc news every now and then for example.

I'm here for the MiL threads...so I know what not to do.

I rarely post about anything related to my children.

I expect people probably do find it through google. It's mentioned in the media a fair bit as well, and around things that aren't child related so people might take a look.

Some people who have come over from other sites in troll invasions sometimes stay as well.

In London you're never more than 10 feet from a Mumsnetter. It's a big famous site. Home of the Penis Beaker. It gets talked about.

Because the forum looked interesting, or because they saw Penis Beaker? Note I said "or" there, not "for example".

Perhaps they are TTC, childminders, nannies, nursery workers, or they simply came across AIBU?

It's quite easy to find and not some secret club which needs a covert handshake and password to get in!
Some of us are trying to have children, regardless not all the popular boards are actually related to parenthood - relationships, chat, AIBU, Christmas, TV addicts and the litter tray are my favourites...

AIBU to wish the OP had done a quick search of the site and read one of the millions (OK, slight exaggeration) of threads on this subject?!

I didn't have DC when I joined, I came for advice on my MC. Then stayed for advice about the second. Then stayed just because I liked it.

The name is misleading (and a bit sexist). The talk section has taken on a life of its own and numerous threads are not child-related. My children are both in their 30s but I still think this forum is relevant to me.

Mumsnet is also very very good at being highly ranked in search engines and as lots of the posts are about parenting, it comes up a lot when people google non-parenting issues. It has lots of attractions that make people stick around - literate posters, simple layout, wide range of subjects, swearing allowed but -ism s generally not, female dominated space...

Lots of the posts are NOT about parenting, that should say.

I think it's rare to find a place on the Internet where the laydeez discuss such a wide variety of topics without the kind of harassment women often get. It's refreshing.

Mumsnet is mentioned very frequently in the press. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that people without children come and have a look.

Considering that it is a massive site where everything under the sun is discussed, much of it nothing to do with parenting, it doesn't surprise me that people choose to stay.

I don't think you really have to be a parent to talk about tv shows, ask about recipes, get advice about your relationship, share jokes, talk about mental health, swap details about campsites, discuss different weight loss plans, debate feminism, ask advice about ebay, talk money matters, chat about chickens, dogs, cats, horses and rabbits, gossip about celebrities, enthuse about the world cup, swap travel tips...

Frankly, I am only surprised that more people aren't here!

And of course it's also in the public conciousness because Justine is an old media whore who'll throw herself in front of any TV camera she sees.

To actually answer the question (again), I think I was googling something or other, and got a link to here. Read some of the aibus and thought they were very funny and interesting. Eventually strayed onto other sections such as chat, fwr, telly addicts and fiction and I like chatting to a large number of funny articulate clever women.

Also despite not having children I am interested in some related subjects like fertility,development etc so sometimes read those sections.
