How would you even find the place? I'd imagine they googled something and stumbled upon a thread and stuck around. Am I right?

OP posts:
mypoosmellsofroses · 05/11/2014 19:30

My children are pretty much all grown up now, back in the day I was a BGH girl when they were small, now I like MN just because, I dunno, it hits the spot for me, have been a regular lurker on many many sites (work related) but MN is where I feel most comfortable.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 05/11/2014 19:30

Again? Seriously?!

I joined when I was a nanny and just stayed on the nanny and Childcare page. Then I moved into other areas and now I post all over.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 05/11/2014 19:30

I came to find out what a penis beaker was. And never left... Much broader range of topics than on my home country sites (non uk), but still relevant. Much more traffic passing thru and therefore more opinions and advice!

TheWhispersOfTheGods · 05/11/2014 19:30

I found this place just after uni when i was working on a product that targeted mums, came on here under the guise of consumer research.

Stayed cos it's fun, i like chat, i lurk on the property boards for advice, mh for support and i think it will be very helpful when i do have children. I can also offer advice on many other things despite not having children yet - I've been in abusive relationships with partners and parents, had embarrassing things happen at work, gone through tough and through wonderful things, i own a slow cooker, and can help rescue a cake. I have other life experiences to offer.

Can people without children not talk to those who do?

MinuteMaid · 05/11/2014 19:30

I followed a Popbitch invasion, years ago. I change my name every week or so and never, ever talk about children.

zeezeek · 05/11/2014 19:32

DrankSangriaInThePark - ha ha, yeah. MN mums are so much less tedious than some of the idiots at DD's school (who think I'm an evil old bitch because DH tends to drop them off and pick them up as he's retired and I work full time!).

Fabulous46 · 05/11/2014 19:33

My kids are all grown up and I only joined a few months ago. I wish I'd found this site yeRs ago!

Bailey101 · 05/11/2014 19:35

I came for the Penis Beaker and stayed for the cat fights Grin

yabu to shoehorn your question into aibu with a daft "to wonder" stuck on the front as if that makes it an aibu.
yabu to imply this is a site only for parents. Have you bothered to look at the topics? Why would you need to have children to post in the pets section, the food section, the tv chat, or even aibu? Do you only ever talk about your children?
You could have wondered and answered your own question easily.

toomuchtooold · 05/11/2014 19:36

I registered on it when I was having my first miscarriage.

Glad I didn't see any threads like this one...

HappyAmbler · 05/11/2014 19:41

I joined for the infertility board (over two years ago), and stumbled onto AIBU which I've become addicted to! But obvs not relevant to me as I don't have children. Thanks Angry

googoodolly · 05/11/2014 19:44

I have step-children and am TTC, but I found MN way before all of that. I was googling something else and found a link to an AIBU thread and had a look, read around and joined about six months later Smile

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/11/2014 19:45

This thread again?

I always think the op's of this type of thread are seriously lacking in any sort of imagination.

IsabellaPong · 05/11/2014 19:48

I always think they are a bit thick.

AnyFawker · 05/11/2014 19:50

I always think they don't know Mumsnet very well

ginslinger · 05/11/2014 19:51

Oh this one again? Hmm

I joined well after my DCs grew up - i like a lot of the people and there's a lot to discuss apart from children

Jill2015 · 05/11/2014 19:51

I've answered this question every other time it has been asked... So, this time, I'm saying 'just cos' Confused

ginslinger · 05/11/2014 19:52

What with threads about the older generation and this one I'm starting to think I'll go to Gransnet.

Can you swear there?

SockQueen · 05/11/2014 19:55

I'm a member of this forum despite not being a parent, and a member of a very large student forum despite not being a student any more.

There just aren't many general (i.e. not themed around a particular interest like a TV show/crafts etc) forums around for the "procrastinating 20-30something" demographic.

Tamzin125 · 05/11/2014 19:58

Hasn't this thread come up before quite recently? I think I first stumbled across it looking for something on google completely unrelated to children. I have a stepson but no DC's of my own. I've found the site super supportive / helpful for all sorts of issues and so stuck around. It also helps when I'm procrastinating - far more interesting than certain social media sites!

ChestyCoffin · 05/11/2014 19:59

Again Hmm

Just because....

escorpion · 05/11/2014 19:59

holds hands with twomuch not a mother, but not because I don´t wan´t to be. After two miscarriages, the best support I got was here, even better than IRL.

LiviaDruscillaAugusta · 05/11/2014 20:06

This gets brought up every few weeks.

I have no DC, never wanted any and will never have any. But there are relatively few child only topics so I just hang out on the ones that are relevant.

IsSpringSprangedYet · 05/11/2014 20:07

I think because mumsnet is so much more than 'mum' stuff - relationship, housekeeping, cooking, TV. All sorts.

How they find it, I'm not sure, but I thought mumsnet was fairly well known through magazines and TV and stuff.

I found it on netmums when they were slagging this site off. I came on and had a nose, and never went back!! Grin Don't know how I found NM though.
