To be a bit dismayed if 4 million women visit this site, why are there so few posts on the feminism threads?

Ok so I know there are lots of lurkers but if there are really millions of women who go on MN, why are so many threads on the feminism section consisting of so few women? It doesn't make sense to me as so many issues that
women post about on many different topics are actually feminist issues when it comes down to it...

Lots of good reasons have already been put on here. I also take issue with the fact that you have started a second thread to talk about other posters on this thread. It's rude, patronising and condescending.

The thing I have against feminism (when organised into something that isn't part of life) is that those who then 'claim it' treat me exactly the same way that men would if it weren't for the fact I don't allow it. Me. The person you are dismissing because I don't post in a forum earning a feminist badge in your view

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/10/2014 23:37

I got savaged by Dittany for daring to have a sense of humour and not agree with her. Even though I understand that she has taken her dungaree clad arse elsewhere now, I have no intention of coming back. Life's too short. I'm a feminist, and quite comfortable with myself and views. I don't need to be hounded off by some shrieking woman who thinks my views should be the same as hers and there is no acceptable alternative view.

Q. How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?

A. That's not funny.

emotionsecho · 30/10/2014 23:37

Elephants how did you to come to the conclusion that Worra is being a dick?Confused

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/10/2014 23:38

A thread doesn't need a perfect OP, who behaves perfectly to be interesting.

However, far too many threads are detailed by arrogant, bullying posters skirting very very close to the personal attack rules, questioning OPs every breath.

Bambambini · 30/10/2014 23:38

I've lurked there and posted once or twice. It can be interesting and it has made me think and challenged my views on certain things. But, TBH - the regulars there don't want to open it up to less enlightened, less well read posters. They want to keep it to themselves and feed off each other, using their feminist in words and phrases.

Sure. I remember an old thread that had legs where they were actively suggesting what kind of feminist should post there. That they didn't want perhaps curious first time posters coming on asking what they considered uneducated questions etc. They actually were proposing that posters should have some understanding and be read up on feminist literature and ideology in order to post there in the first place.

Haven't been there for a long, long time.

Derailed. And yes I'm derailing this one. Sorry

Ah, women ripping apart women; not a man in sight Wink this is why I avoid most of the feminist debate despite agreeing with its main principles.

WorraLiberty · 30/10/2014 23:41

Oh for Christ sake

The OP starts a thread in AIBU

Reads and ignores the replies

Starts a thread in FWR talking about our replies, like we're some sort of bloody experiment and yet I'm being a dick for calling her out in it?

In that case, I'm very happy to be called a dick.

Because this sort of patronising crap is ridiculous.

HolgerDanske · 30/10/2014 23:41

It is one of my biggest bugbears when people misuse the term debate like that. It's not a debate if you piss off and don't pay any actual attention to respondents. A debate requires intellectual engagement and an exchange of ideas.

And I still don't think 'debate' is some kind of holy grail unless there's a purpose to it, otherwise it's nothing more than tedious intellectual masturbation.

Is this the FWR board you're describing?

emotionsecho · 30/10/2014 23:42

Elephants if that was in response to my question imo it is not an accurate description in any way of Worra's contributions to this thread.

FrontForward · 30/10/2014 23:43

Worra. I like your dick posts

WorraLiberty · 30/10/2014 23:44

Thanks Front, it saves me using my fingers Grin

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/10/2014 23:45

Calling the OP patronising 3pgs into a thread is really irritating.

Even if, in this case the OP may actually have deserved it for multiple threads.

JubJubBirds · 30/10/2014 23:47

You may find the use of 'patronising' irritating Elephants, others see it as a fitting description.

Seemed sort of ironic on a feminist thread.

Absolutely no sense of humour is another reason why people don't post on FWR.

Sadly that seems to be spreading to most of MN

Elephants, Worra's comments on the OP being patronising don't fit this description detailed by arrogant, bullying posters skirting very very close to the personal attack rules, questioning OPs every breath, it was an accurate and measured comment.
