My bloody neighbour!

My neighbour is one if those who constantly buy new gadgets.

A couple of weeks ago he came home with a little helicopter thing with a camera on it.

He's constantly flying it over our gardens and filming us! He casually mentioned things that he has seen in my and my neighbours gardens.

I feel like taking it off him and smashing it. I love the privacy of my garden and I feel like he's being a selfish git.

Myself and my neighbours have told him to stop flying over our properties but he insists he's allowed as we down own the airspace Hmm

Aibu to stick it up his arse?

I'd be calling 101. Fairly sure what he is going is illegal... And if it isn't why?! I have a low tolerance for this shit and would also smash his fucking toy

The aircraft must not be flown:

over or within 150 metres of any congested area

over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1,000 persons;

within 50 metres of any vessel, vehicle or structure which is not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft

within 50 metres of any person except during take-off or landing, the aircraft must not be flown within 30 metres of any person except for the person in charge of the aircraft.

No it's not over looked at all. Our houses are built weirdly so we cannot look into each other's back gardens.

Is that even allowed? I mean, I know you don't own the airspace (what a completely wankerish thing to say!) but surely it's a big security issue? He could be a peeping tom, a stalker, intending to rob your property etc etc.

Personally I'd call 101 and find out what their take is on it. They may not be able to do anything, but it's worth finding out.

Try posting on the legal board too. It should be illegal.

YANBU btw. Get a big pole to ram it right up there.

Oh wow. DH has one of those too but he wouldn't dream of flying it into neighbours' gardens or filming through their windows!

I think the filming is the issue rather than the actual aircraft. Does seem like it should be wrong to film people remotely without their permission much like recording phone calls.

Drones are awesome when used to film things like this or this but using them to peep at your neighbours is dreadful. Report him.

Small unmanned aircraft (irrespective of their mass) that are being used for surveillance purposes are subject to tighter restrictions with regard to the minimum distances that you can fly near people or properties that are not under your control. If you wish to fly within these minima, permission is required from the CAA before operations are commenced.

And

the collection of images of identifiable individuals, even inadvertently, when using surveillance cameras mounted on a small unmanned surveillance aircraft, will be subject to the Data Protection Act. As this Act contains requirements concerning the collection, storage and use of such images, Small Unmanned Aircraft operators should ensure that they are complying with any such applicable requirements or exemptions.

You do actually own the immediate airspace above your garden, below the height an aeroplane would fly at obviously.
