Have had a normal day as usual, picked dd1 up from school, dropped and picked her up from another after school activity thing, just as the two girls are finishing off dinner and getting ready for bed, DH arrives home from work.
His mood is perfectly fine, although he looked really tired (and has been working long hours for the past few days and finished at 11pm yday). As soon as he comes in, he says hello and a chat etc, Hthen sits with dd1 for abit while she chatters about school and then gets up to get the nail clipper to cut her nails. I can hear them in the other room talking about the holiday which is booked for the half term. Dh is telling dd1 'when we go on holiday, you can buy anything you want'. I come in and

DH came in early so started work. I was tutoring. He didn't bother coming down to put pizza in the oven. So I put it in, and turn the oven on when I've finished. We don't eat until 7pm and he's moaning and grumping that the dcs are going to bed late. I said why didn't you put the pizza in the oven while I was tutoring? Oh so it's all my fault is it?

And all I said was 'let's not make such huge promises dh!' I just don't agree with such daft promises. Dh got huffy and said something along the lines of 'what why not' , to which I said 'you know dd1, she'll probably want a horse or a camel or something!' And dh gave me a look and I could tell he was instantly in a mood. As I put the girls to bed, I heard him huff off to the bedroom and the door slammed then he came back after a bit - id brought out dinner, and he said 'I'm not hungry' and he huffed off to bed again. I went in after a bit and was like 'shall I make you something else or do you want tea?' And he said 'no, I'm not hungry, I just want to lie down'. But he had his huffy tone and face, and I said ok, fine.

Now that you've updated, I think YABU to be seething about it. I think mildly annoyed would cover him making promises he can't keep ( depending on the age of your DD and if she will be bitterly disappointed when she discovers that she can't actually buy whatever she wants).

The huffiness would annoy me but I think you stole his sunshine and since he had already made the comment then all you've done is confuse your DD. You should just have left him to manage any resulting disappointment.
