Have had a normal day as usual, picked dd1 up from school, dropped and picked her up from another after school activity thing, just as the two girls are finishing off dinner and getting ready for bed, DH arrives home from work.
His mood is perfectly fine, although he looked really tired (and has been working long hours for the past few days and finished at 11pm yday). As soon as he comes in, he says hello and a chat etc, Hthen sits with dd1 for abit while she chatters about school and then gets up to get the nail clipper to cut her nails. I can hear them in the other room talking about the holiday which is booked for the half term. Dh is telling dd1 'when we go on holiday, you can buy anything you want'. I come in and

I was going to suggest that, next time he says 'if your mum agrees I'll buy you a hamster' you can retaliate with 'if your father agrees and will do all the looking after, I'll buy you a pony' and see how he likes it Grin

I'm not entirely sure that HE has ruined your evening.

He's worked a v. long day, he's in pain, he wants a little daddy snuggle.

He made some promises that you earwig on, and call him on.

FFS, he just wanted a chat with his daughter. You could have let it pass and the evening would have not been 'ruined'

My OH promises the world to the kids sometimes before we discuss it and then it doesn't materialise. Either end up with disappointed kids or huge hole in finances to try and bridge until payday! I'm with OP on this one.

Well of course we made up and yes I was in the kitchen nicking his chips Grin
I didn't say sorry and neither did he !
