RitaI think you will find there is no "if" about the lie he told about his EU legal opinion or the lie he told about using the Euro not being an entry requirement.

EarthWindFire · 12/09/2014 16:58

When did two years redundancy notice come in?

I don't think it has yet, I think he is saying it will.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 12/09/2014 17:00

Troels, the Big big debate panel last night was supposed to have Labour Jim Murphy. He was pulled, and Galloway substituted at the last minute, by Better Together. This could have led to utter disarray, as both Nicola and Patrick did not want to share the platform with "a rape apologist" (relates to Assange case iirc). Galloway stood down, amidst claims that Nicola was too feart to debate him, and BT insisted he be reinstated...

Why? God alone knows! Confused

grovel · 12/09/2014 17:01

"BP, in an independent Scotland, will need to learn the meaning of nationalisation, in part or in whole, as it has in other countries who have not been as soft as we have forced to be. If it wants into the ‘monster fields’ in the areas west of Shetland, it will have to learn to bend the knee to a greater power – us, the sovereign people of Scotland."

I'm sure all potential inward investors will love the idea bending their knees to a greater power. This is just bonkers. I thought YES was about "greater powers to create jobs".

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/09/2014 17:01

This is quite interesting. I know earlier people were discussing the varying reasons for voting Yes:

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/09/2014 17:10

Sillars speaks a lot of sense

Incredible - utterly incredible. I can't even begin to articulate the total lack of business understanding which this demonstrates ...

Sallyingforth · 12/09/2014 17:11

After that speech, even if there is No vote there will be a long shadow cast over investment in Scotland. Everyone knows that SNP will come back for another bite of the cherry.

AnnieHoo · 12/09/2014 17:11

"We will be the masters of the oil fields, not BP or any other of the majors".

Really?

oddcommentator · 12/09/2014 17:15

To be fair tho - whilst he is fairly shrill and connected - he isnt going to be in charge. Though - it is precisely this thinking that is the biggest barrier to jobs being created in Scotland.

AnnieHoo · 12/09/2014 17:19

You're right Odd v fair comment.

He's a one-man-band with his own unique set of politics - these pledges weren't in the white paper!

grovel · 12/09/2014 17:21

Difficult for Salmond though. He campaigned with Sillars only two days ago.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/09/2014 17:21

Yes, he is and hopefully remains a one man band. I suspect the business world will be watching very closely for any endorsement from the main Yes camp.

SantanaLopez · 12/09/2014 17:23

Someone asked earlier for links for these.

Stan Blackley tweeted 'wouldn't it be great if Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons and Asda left Scotland after Yes vote?' see here here

David Turner also tweeted 'Now it looks like two major supermarkets are part of the Better Together campaign, time to boycott.' see here

And Salmond threatened to blockade the North Sea when he spoke of "the fishing fleets of 12 countries being denied any access to Scottish waters and, as a consequence, their access to Norwegian waters, which is also dependent on Scottish access." That was in April see here

oddcommentator · 12/09/2014 17:23

That so Annie - some of the conversations in boardrooms are getting pretty febrile i suspect. I would expect AS to popup and make soothing noises but alas it is easier to deny it is happening or call it all lies - lies do you hear!

This would be like pouring a about a pint of white spirit on the barbecue.

Sallyingforth · 12/09/2014 17:24

It's up to Salmond to disown him then. But I expect he'll dodge the question like all the others.

Sallyingforth · 12/09/2014 17:29

How can Salmond blockade the fishing grounds?

He'll need to build a navy first, and any such action will result in Norway and many others blocking his entry to the EU.

prettybird · 12/09/2014 17:31

How can Norway block Scotland's membership of the EU? Confused

Sallyingforth · 12/09/2014 17:34

OK. Delete Norway :) Many others will do the job.

grandtheftmanual · 12/09/2014 17:38

Richard Branson reported as coming out for 'No'. Wonder what that will do to proposed tfr of business to Scotland discussed in previous thread?

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/09/2014 17:39

Norway's not in the EU, but I don't see how he could blockade it. As I understand it territorial waters only extend 12 miles out - pretty sure you wouldn't need to sail within 12 miles of Scotland to get to Norwegian grounds. And even then you're meant to permit innocent passage. Exclusive economic zone is 200 miles which controls fishing rights etc but not the right of passage.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/09/2014 17:40

Funny, I'm sure one of the YES crowd quoted Branson at me a while back

branson

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 12/09/2014 17:43

Thanks OldLady - truly bizarre about Jim Murphy and George Galloway swapping places.

That Jim Sillars quote will appeal only to a subsection of those considering voting yes and might put the frighteners on lots of others. And as pps have pointed out it will accelerate the plans of any business that already was given to think iScotland won't be business-friendly. Is the Yes campaign now so full of confidence that it will win that it feels it can risk making statements like that - or are they trying to sabotage their own campaign at the last minute?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/09/2014 17:46

According to The Scotsman, BP have refused to comment on Mr Sillars's words, which seems a wise position to take. It won't stop them having views on it though, along with countless other job/wealth creators

I wonder how long it will take AS to disown his views ... ??

IrnBruTheNoo · 12/09/2014 17:55

"will result in Norway and many others blocking his entry to the EU."

Wow do you know how crazy that sounds?!?
