I didn't mention Britannica, but well done for slipping it in there..
I hadn't even heard of them until I saw it mentioned on one of these threads. Funny that.

Don't forget The James Connolly Society from your list of supporters of the independence campaign.

Anyhow, off out for a while..

weatherall · 08/09/2014 20:22

Does this help re Clair?

I can't find where I read it about a month ago.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/09/2014 20:23

Don't forget the James Connolly Society, they're also for Yes. Slightly less palatable than the groups you choose to mention though.

Can't think why.

I've never heard of them! Grin They dont seem to be on the list though?

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/09/2014 20:33

Oh, another copy and pasted list. Weatherall, seriously - this stuff doesn't even make sense. Discuss stuff properly rather than posting massive lists which you can't explain or justify That's basically a list of every industry someone could think of except finance.

AnnieHoo · 08/09/2014 20:39

you missed Healthcare too.

Roonerspism · 08/09/2014 20:39

statistically it's hilarious. That list is meaningless.

Businesses won't invest weatherall. Look at the stock markets today and the commentary.

AnnieHoo · 08/09/2014 20:44

Seriously though, how are these jobs going to be created?

Remember we've got a £6 Billion deficit to tackle from day 1.

Roseformeplease · 08/09/2014 20:47

Cut and paste arguments do your case no good at all. We can all cut and paste. I am tempted to go away and find the opening section of a good novel - "Pride and Prejudice" anyone? I prefer good quality fiction.

squoosh · 08/09/2014 20:48

It is a truth universally acknowledged.......

or something

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/09/2014 20:49

I can't see anything wrong with the list? Scotland does have a diverse and productive economy, and it can become more so.

Weatherall I think Clair is currently on a planned shut down (ie not pumping oil) in order that masses of subsea infrastructure can be installed. I'm not sure of the current schedule though and when start up is. While some of the platform personnel will not be needed during shut downs, masses of project personnel plus fabricators and 3rd party engineering, procurement, project management and installation contractors will be working on this.

I can't imagine BP or any other operators not working when they could be just to help a political campaign.

TeamScotland · 08/09/2014 20:51

anniehoo did you get the links on the £6b deficit?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 08/09/2014 20:51

But ItsAllGoing it's just a list of existing Scottish industries.

How would these industries be able to invest in expansion/new jobs with no stable currency, huge debts and no clear idea of where the country is headed?

Roseformeplease · 08/09/2014 20:53

An economy requires people who want to invest there to live there, and work there.

A list of jobs is nothing more than a list of jobs. It doesn't create a single job or explain how a single job will be created. I can give you a list of types of cake - it doesn't mean I can make them all.

temporaryusername · 08/09/2014 20:55

I'm afraid I haven't been able to read all the threads. I will be very sad if the union breaks up. As DP said he considers himself British rather than English, and the thought of being 'left' makes me sad.

Don't leave us! Sad

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/09/2014 20:57

What's wrong with the list is that it's just that. It's just a list of industries. No evidence or discussion of how or why jobs will be created in them. I could paste the same list and say jobs could be lost in them.

It's not adding anything meaningful

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/09/2014 20:59

TeamScotland deficit is supported by the GERS figures if you would like them?

aoife24 · 08/09/2014 20:59

I have a gut feeling it is going to be yes. There is a change in the air, a perceptable but hard to define, change. I think the latest poll will give peple who have been wavering more courage to go for it. I pretty much expect to wake up on 19 September to a new world, goodness only knows how it will pan out though.

AnnieHoo · 08/09/2014 21:02

Here TeamScotland.

Scottish Government predict it will be £5.5 Billion for 2016-2017

Citigroup say £9.3 Billion and HM Treasury say £9.1 Billion for 2016-2017.

God help us all if the scots vote yes

WildThong · 08/09/2014 21:03

Sorry weatherall but it's like that Shopping List thread you get in Chat. Yours is definitely from Waitrose, the reality is we will get Somerfield or some such.
