And everyone on the Yes side is a saint. No loons there. Nope, none at all.

What's his face Souter is a bit embarrassing.

weatherall the queue went right around the building where the meeting was held, thirty minutes before it started. It was mobbed. Most, if not all, walked away with optimism, lots of badges (nearly ran out apparently!), car stickers (proudly on my car now) and WBBs. Apparently it was a roaring success.

Poor show for Better Together. Obviously they feel they've got it in the bag if they don't even need to put the man power in to get voters...I feel their tactics are backfiring though.

starwarslegoboy · 08/09/2014 20:08

Sean Connerry is embarassing

My only concern is, are there actually any undecideds/ nos going to these meetings?

Implying that people are basically as bad as the BNP or Orange Order because they are choosing to vote No is tiresome. Really, really tiresome.

WildThong · 08/09/2014 20:10

itsall continuing with the sniders...
May I refer you to my post re OO and UKIP from earlier today. Please don't let any solid information get in the way of your fun though...

"
I know you don't have a vote but are taking a close interest and I noted that you referenced The Orange Order and UKIP in your post above. This has been mentioned a few times almost as a given that the Better Together Campaign is somehow hand in hand with them. I felt it was important to actually check this before it becomes one of these oft repeated 'facts' which has no basis. a weel known Yes campaign trick
Obviously as (very divisive and controversial) Unionist organisations they have come out in support of 'no' but I couldn't find anywhere that the official campaign has actually been working with them.
guardian are Yes but all I could find It says in this article that BT have refused to work with them as a matter of fact.
I see that those paragons of peace and reconciliation The James Connolly Society are supporting the Yes campaign. A group that I would hold in equal terms as the OO "

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/09/2014 20:10

I'm interested in you saying raise VAT Weatherall. Can you explain why you think that would help the poorest?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/09/2014 20:10

Sean Connerry is embarassing

True Grin Has he actually got much involved though?

OP posts:
weatherall · 08/09/2014 20:12

Didn't suggest raising vat. Confused

The Tories increased it.

VAT is paid disproportionately by the less well off so it is effectively a tax on the poor. Raising it punishes the poor which is exactly what the Tories want.

No, but he still is a brass neck. And frequently referenced by BT. So agreeing with them on that

WildThong · 08/09/2014 20:13

Correct squoosh

Isn't Souter is well known for his homophobic views.? "A bit embarrassing"
Does that make the Yes campaigners homophobic, no it doesn't.

oddcommentator · 08/09/2014 20:13

Weatherall - does the manifesto specifically states that all of these will be repealed in the event of a yes vote? Please tell me where.

You see - thats your version of fair. It might not be anyone elses - but you are voting in effect for your vision of Scotland. Do the work and establish exactly what Scotland you will get. Because those items on your list werent policies designed to punish Scotland - its not part of a conspiracy because Westminster hates you.

no - you see under the new scotland economy - it will have to raise the money to pay for all this - how much? sorry apparently asking is "negative".

squoosh · 08/09/2014 20:14

As it stands currently Yes make up 50% of Scotland's population. I don't see Yes voters as a homogeneous group who all hold the same social and political beliefs. It would be stupid to assume such a thing.

I don't think I have ever said that OO/Britannica et al are part of the Better Together campaign? They are however officially registered as campaigning for "no' in the referendum.

Just as Wings/National Collective/Labour for Indy et all are not part of the Yes campaign, but are officially registered as campaigning for a "yes" in the referendum.

I think the only thing Yes voters agree on is that they are voting Yes!Grin

weatherall thanks for the links! but doesn't explain the thing you were saying about gardening leave.

weatherall · 08/09/2014 20:17

Irnbru- there have been meetings for over a year where organisers have had to bring in extra seats.

BT/ the establishment totally underestimated how politically engaged the Scottish people are.

They expected us to stay quiet and do what we are told.

Better together don't even think we are 'genetically capable' of leading ourselves.

The polls are only surprising them now because they have been so arrogant throughout their campaign.

squoosh · 08/09/2014 20:17

Don't forget the James Connolly Society, they're also for Yes. Slightly less palatable than the groups you choose to mention though.

Can't think why.

oddcommentator · 08/09/2014 20:18

really? linking no voters to people you dont like who are voting no? 1/10 do try harder. Lost the economic argument, realising that you have been sold a pup - now saving face?

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/09/2014 20:19

You might want to read your list more carefully. It says fair is..."no bedroom tax, no welfare cap,....raising VAT"

So...or did you just paste a list without reading it?

Roonerspism · 08/09/2014 20:20

weatherall I'm astonished you are excited about the supposed job creation in an iScotland. Who will create these jobs?

Businesses are making plans as we speak to leave. 185,000 in the financial sector alone.

Where are we all going to work? Oil rigs? And after that? Will our kids just be tour guides of a once great city?
