Round 2 folks, ding ding!

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2014 18:54

Too much of it on both sides.

UnderCurrent · 27/08/2014 19:09

How will we find out the result? Will it be, say, 55% voted x:45% voted y?

Or will it be split by regions or electorates, such as: in Edin the votes were 45:55., Fife voted 40:60, Glasgow voted... Etc
Will there be any exciting graphics to watch throughout the night? Or just the result the next morning?

FloatIsRechargedNow · 27/08/2014 19:12

Exciting Graphics - now that's what The People want (sounds like a bloody good night of sofa and TV).

cozietoesie · 27/08/2014 19:22

My understanding is that the counts will be local in the LA regions and that when completed and verified by the local Returning Officers/Counting Officers (usually LA CEOS) they'll be communicated to the Chief Counting officer. And that the result will be announced in a oner and not bit by bit as local resuts come in - so eg bad weather in the islands could mean the next day and not the early hours.

That's only my understanding though. Happy to stand corrected on that.

prettybird · 27/08/2014 19:23

I believe that it is going to be an aggregate result (which might be as late as 20 September Shock) - but that the Presiding Electoral Officer (or whatever the person is called) has given permission for some results to be announced if they want to be.

Sounds messy: neither one nor t'other Hmm

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 27/08/2014 19:26

Each local authority area will have its own Counting Officer, who will relay the results to the Chief Counting Officer in Edinburgh. There will be local announcements, and an announcement from Edinburgh as the results come in and are verified. It'll be something like "East Lothian 10000 yes, 100 No" (Grin, in my dreams!) then "Fife 10000 yes, 100 no" giving a grand total of 20000 yes and 200 no, rather than "Morayshire voted No, Fife voted Yes", iyswim.

It's going to be a long, long night...

grovel · 27/08/2014 19:27

cozietoesie, excellent. Time for some window smashing after the exit polls, a quick rest and a drink - before a riot at the final result.

grovel · 27/08/2014 19:28

What I've just posted felt funny. I now think it's probably tasteless. Sorry.

UnderCurrent · 27/08/2014 19:28

So no exciting graphics to watch then - booo!

Will have to come up with a plan B for the evening of the 18th then - or maybe even three plan Bs!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2014 19:29

In the interests of fairness should we critique the Yes advert?

UnderCurrent · 27/08/2014 19:30

X-post. Some of you are saying different.
So it could be an exciting night in from of the telly! Yay!

SantanaLopez · 27/08/2014 19:33

which might be as late as 20 September

Shock
TheBogQueen · 27/08/2014 19:37

Oh dewar

Been at work all day so didn't get a chance to RTFT

And assumed it would just be same old shite anyway Grin

TheBogQueen · 27/08/2014 19:38

Dewar ?? Dear

Christ it's been a long day

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2014 19:38

And of course there will be observers at all of the counts - don't know if that will slow things?

SantanaLopez · 27/08/2014 19:41

Oh dewar

As in Donald? Grin

I suppose I'd rather it was done to the letter rather than rushed through. But I think I might need medication if it's the 20th!

cozietoesie · 27/08/2014 19:43

Recounts and helicopters not working on the night?

Who can tell.

prettybird · 27/08/2014 19:43

Of course, if it's not close - say 70/30 either way, then you won't have to wait till all the results are in! Grin

SantanaLopez · 27/08/2014 19:51

Christ, imagine 51/49 and it takes until the 20th.

I'm sweating at the thought Grin

FloatIsRechargedNow · 27/08/2014 20:00

It's beginning to sound a bit Ukrainian, but I'll still stay up to watch telly presenters dance around the 'graphics', with a bit of riot showing on the satellite news channels.

I loves a bit of independence I does...just don't kill anyone on the way. In or Out.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2014 20:04

Christ, imagine 51/49 and it takes until the 20th.

Mind you I would rather it was done properly. Couldn't cope with recounts and legal challenges on top of all the other stress!

IrnBruTheNoo · 27/08/2014 20:16

Hopefully there won't be any corruption and it will be counted fairly.

TeamScotland · 27/08/2014 20:18

I've heard of people saying they're going to photograph their completed ballot paper, but don't understand what good that will do.

IrnBruTheNoo · 27/08/2014 20:19

Team I suppose it's because this referendum is a once in a lifetime event. Many of us will never have this opportunity again in our lives. Nostalgia!
