What do people think will happen after the referendum? I'm assuming it's going to be a no as all the polls indicate this.

I wouldn't bet on it. I don't think any polls are accurate, they all seem to show something different.

From personal opinion, from what I've seen and heard, I think it might just be a Yes. Until fairly recently I thought it would be a No, but not anymore. No-one can say for sure though, until the referendum itself. There's no way of telling.

SantanaLopez · 27/08/2014 16:54

Will things just get back to normal, or will there be acrimony between the two groups of voters.

I'm not assuming anything until I see the result on the 19th.

Anyway.

I think the No campaign is really tied if they lose because of the Edinburgh agreement. There will undoubtedly be some unhappy people though. I shall be among them Grin How far that 'unhappiness' goes, I don't know.

The Yes campaign is more likely to get back up and campaign again. I think this is really low of them, I have to say.

prettybird · 27/08/2014 16:57

Alex Salmon said in the debate on Monday night that he would accept the result, even if it is No.

But he did use the perpendicular pronoun and could always resign! Wink

PhaedraIsMyName · 27/08/2014 16:58

Oh the nats won't give up. You can be sure of that.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2014 16:58

I really hope the vote is not too close 49/51 would be pretty shitty.

SantanaLopez · 27/08/2014 16:59

I would go so far as a fucking nightmare ItsAll Grin

PhaedraIsMyName · 27/08/2014 17:01

I don't care if it's 50.5 and 49.5 as long as Eck loses. I'd prefer a high no vote but Eck losing will be delightful.

Numanoid · 27/08/2014 17:02

Agree, ItsAll and Santana!

Celticlass2 · 27/08/2014 17:07

Ah, ok. I suppose it's best not to assume anything then. Polls can often be wrong!
Maybe the worst thing will be if the vote is very close. Better if there was something like 70/30 rather than 53/47 in whatever direction. Otherwise, I can see the acceptance of the result being very problematic.

Numanoid · 27/08/2014 17:09

Ah, ok. I suppose it's best not to assume anything then. Polls can often be wrong!

From what I've seen, both campaigns only post polls that put them in the lead. Grin

I hope it's an outright majority too, a very close result wouldn't be good at all.

cozietoesie · 27/08/2014 17:18

.....Will things just get back to normal, or will there be acrimony between the two groups of voters......

I think there will be massive acrimony.

PhaedraIsMyName · 27/08/2014 17:26

Massive acrimony.

FloatIsRechargedNow · 27/08/2014 17:27

Of course there will be acrimony - hopefully directed at the other Scots that voted. I realize that this thread isn't for The English (even mongrel English like me) but don't you Scots think we have a point of view. The English are blamed for colonialism, etc (like Spain, Netherlands, etc weren't out there doing the same thing!) and The Scots continue to blame The English, even though a disproportionate amount of Scots are present at Westminster (representing English constituencies of course) making all those English Laws to torment Scots.

So from an English perspective please vote YES - we'll be ok and wish you well too. Or please just fuck off and blame someone else.

OOAOML · 27/08/2014 17:31

Look forward to years of 'well, if the vote had gone differently' whatever the result.

Seriously, I hope people pull together. If some of us have to/want to leave, I hope the rest prosper. A lot of people will be upset whatever happens. I don't really know how that will be dealt with. And I think I will not look at Facebook or Twitter for a while.

And hopefully we will get the lamp posts and bus stops power-washed to take off the remnants of stickers that people seem to spend ages putting up/tearing off/writing on. Maybe George Galloway and Tommy Sheridan can go round scraping them off Wink

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/08/2014 17:32

I notice nobody is answering the "bitching and moaning" comments Grin

I think it will be pretty acrimonious afterwards tbh - I can't see us just forgetting about it all on the 19th.

FloatIsRechargedNow · 27/08/2014 17:37

Stat Wink it's a point of view and am Grin about it.

OOAOML · 27/08/2014 17:38

Float how about we vote No and blame each other for the next hundred years? I really don't want to vote Yes and I really don't want Scottish independence. And I don't blame the English (or the Welsh, or Northern Irish - I wish Alex Salmond would stop referring to 'the English' in the way he does), especially not for the empire (which the Scots were pretty involved in).

whattheseithakasmean · 27/08/2014 18:02

I think that Scotland is divided into those who are excited and revved up by this & the quieter majority who think it is a big fat waste of time and can't wait for it all to go away. I will be 'no', I hope it will prevail, then we can all forget about it and move on with our lives. I suspect many feel the same - let's get it over with. I don't care how other people vote now and I won't care after. No acrimony from me.

WildThong · 27/08/2014 18:03

Em, bogqueen you haven't rear the full thread have you?
I'm afraid that's been done to death already...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/08/2014 18:25

Wouldn't it make more sense to have our own Government so that we have a say in matters?

If it turns out that's what the majority want, then yes

I doubt anyone would deny the Scot a right to vote on the future of the union - though some of us would like the rest of us to have had a vote as well. My main concerns are that at least some of this seems to be argued on a purely "emotional" basis without real thought about issues such as affordability, and how the future will shape up given that one group are going to be very, very disappointed

FloatIsRechargedNow · 27/08/2014 18:32

OOA thanks for engaging with my view (which isn't static just a point). I completely agree if you want rid of the 'blame game' because in my mind that is what needs to be voted against. Scotland and Scots have a lot to offer and have a great history (modern and ancient) in invention and 'heartiness in the face of adversity'. And surviving the odds. I also think Salmond a great Politician and would welcome him down this way as he's clever as well as 'down a dark alley (close)...?".

The English have enough problems, they have to shoulder all that 'history of apologies' - no one says blame those "Scottish Slave Traders" even though plenty of Scots traded in slaves. Swings and Roundabouts.

But still, I don't have a vote but say vote yes, and still say, quit the bitching and moaning too.

WildThong · 27/08/2014 18:36

Oooft, this is the type of behaviour none of us want to see! Tit.
