To expect a Nurse lead by example?

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 17:03

And practice what they preach.
Have just clocked the overweight nurse that did my recent health check, smoking like a chimney and munching on a chocolate bar!

This is somebody who sat there and lectured me on cutting down on carbs, eating oily fish once a week, not smoking and to drink in moderation.
It's a bit rich!

We expect fitness trainers to be fit and lead healthy lifestyles.
So, surely somebody who's job it is to advice people on healthy lifestyle choices should also be fairly fit, of a decent weight and not be puffing away like a chimney.
How can we take their advice seriously otherwise?

Or am I being unreasonable? (I know they work long hours and there's a lot of stress), but surely the ones that are doing the health checks and doling out 'healthy living advice' should be an advertisement for what they're saying?

Fideline, what do you think of fluffymouses' comments?

Is the truth boring? :)

OP posts:
MyFairyKing · 21/07/2014 23:46

Why do you see her as lecturing you, she was giving advice. It's up to you what you do I with it.

SiennaBlake · 21/07/2014 23:46

Yaaaaaaawn. Trolls always focus on the one reply that supports them. Never mind the rest of them.

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:47

Isabeller, they cast a net and a bunch of people had to go in for a healthy living check. Who knows why? cos we're all turning into fat bastards?

OP posts:
shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:48

I would hardly call a person who admits to being a HCP and being advised to 'lead by example' a troll.

The rest of the comments maybe

Your reading comprehension skills are terrible.

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:50

Sienna, I always find it 'telling' that when a poster makes a really good comment, there are certain posters that choose to ignore it.

Not one person has responded to Fluffy's comments.
Which shows that people don't really like hearing the truth.

A lot od health education is passing on information. Information-giving is not the same as advice. If you think of it as information and not advice, then where's the problem.

SiennaBlake · 21/07/2014 23:52

They've probably got bored of the thread!

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:53

True. But I think that Fluffy made some valid comments (from the Horse's Mouth as it were) and yet people choose to bury their heads in the sand ignore what she said.

OP posts:
MyFairyKing · 21/07/2014 23:55

You can say what the fuck you like on here, doesn't make it true. I am Kate Middleton though and that is true. Wink

SiennaBlake · 21/07/2014 23:55

Or they got bored of the thread.

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:55

For anybody who's just joined the thread and is wondering what Fluffymouse said, here it is:

*I've read this thread with interest.

I'm a hcp and we were told on the first week if our course that we should lead by example: specifically not smoke and not be overweight.

I think it is fair advice.

My job involves me seeing people who have destroyed their health through lifestyle choices every day (smoking, drinking, over eating) and to advice these patients to alter their lifestyles when I am incapable of doing so would be hypocritical*

OP posts:
shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:56

She sounded fairly genuine to me.

OP posts:
shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:56

And you can't be Kate Middleton isn't she slim? Grin

FidelineAndBombazine · 21/07/2014 23:56

People don't like idiotic repetition.

Sienna's quite right, your reading skills are questionable. YOU were the one being called atroll but you seemed to misunderstand Hmm

You've been droning on for hours now. It just isn't as exciting as you seem to think.

Any minor interest is in how you are finding something so dull and illogical so absorbing.

MyFairyKing · 21/07/2014 23:57

By the way, this is AIBU and you don't think you were, so what did you expect to gain from this?

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:58

Quite right, are we? wot wot?

Fideline, you must find me Fascinating as you keep replying!

OP posts:
FidelineAndBombazine · 21/07/2014 23:58

Ok. Fourth repetition of the same post within half a page.

OP you are a peculiar individual.

shouldacoulda · 21/07/2014 23:59

Fideline, you are too funny - you might as well be looking in a mirror and saying those words to yourself.

OP posts:
CaptainTrollolololol · 22/07/2014 00:00

Wot wot wot

I'm the doctor of the high doctor society and I say only thin nurses! Fuck them fat bitches! Yeah.

I hope my professional opinion is deemed as official as fluffy's. I'm totes a doctor. And a captain.

shouldacoulda · 22/07/2014 00:00

Fideline, you kept repeatedly asking me the same question when I wouldn't answer - is that not repetition?

You are one VERY strange individual.

OP posts:
vicmackie · 22/07/2014 00:01

Take health or advice or don't take it - who cares? Literally no one. Do what the fuck you like. Your nurse being a fat chainsmoker isn't actually linked to your own health in any way but I expect you know that.

Personally I reckon my practice nurse is still able to relay information about verrucas to me despite having lost both of her lower legs. Maybe I'm just a credulous cunt though.

FidelineAndBombazine · 22/07/2014 00:01

Fideline, you must find me Fascinating as you keep replying!

Indeed. I have to decide whether you are troll, juvenile or mentally unfortunate before I can tear myself away from this weird spectacle.

To satisfy my curiosity.

shouldacoulda · 22/07/2014 00:02

And that isn't made up Hmm
