I've come to Butlins with DH and the DC2 staying in gold accommodation with a premium meal plan.

We arrived today and got into our room at 3pm. By 3.15pm I had to contact maintenance and guest services about the state of the room.

  • floors not hoovered and covered in various bits of stuff, including discarded loom bands which my 2yo immediately picked up and put in her mouth
  • dead insects on the floor next to the windows in the living room
  • I had to clean poo off the toilet seat and back of the toilet before DD could go for a wee
  • old, used hair rollers in the cupboard
  • rollie cigarette butts shoved in the lock of another cupboard
  • security chain on the front door broken
  • shower pipe/hose leaking, a stream not drops
  • lino on the kitchen floor curling right up (4 yo has tripped on it at least four times)

We complained to reception who said they would get it sorted ASAP, today, before we got back this evening. Well we've gotten back this evening and it's not sorted. You'd think that given we had a specific list of complaints they'd have made sure they were all addressed? Nope. Came back to the room to dead insects still there, floor still make, lino still curling, cig butts still in situ and 2yo immediately found yet another frigging loom band. They've been in because the rollers are gone and the shower and door are mended.

I'm so angry Sad I've been looking forward to this holiday, our first since I had DS2 and it's gotten off to such a sour note.

It's Butlins. I don't expect mints on the pillows and flowers in every room but AIBU to expect it to at least be clean and serviceable rather than grotty and dirty and grim like we found it today?

Whenever we've been to butlins, there is a mobile number to text housekeeping in your welcome pack, they were very good at dealing with a few issues we had, at skegness. The gold reception staff should definitely offer you something as an apology and if not, go to guest services and speak to someone in authority.
Don't let it spoil your holiday:)

KnackeredMuchly · 15/07/2014 07:47

Another one who is getting out off the idea of these holidays, my son is getting the right age gor them but I'd rather Staycation at home than sut in someone elses filth.

Like Birdsgottafly sats - mistakes can happen to anyone but you can only judge a company by how well the rectify them. And Butlins... I'm judging you...

KnackeredMuchly · 15/07/2014 07:52

*put off

On that sounds terrible. You must demand a transfer to better accommodation. Don't accept staying in that room. The Shoreline at Bognor is lovely and clean and modern. But I'm not sure which Butlins you are at. They would surely have spare rooms and apartments as it's not in peak season yet.

We went to Bognor a few weekends ago on a last minute deal - it was so cheap they were practically giving it away and it wasn't that busy when we got there either.

If you are at Bognor - avoid the Centre stage entertainment area - it was a health hazard and smelt of wet dog!

I hope they sort it out for you so that you get to enjoy your holiday.

Hi Bearfrills please can you email me your booking reference number and personal details to [email protected] and I'll speak to the resort straight away to ensure this gets sorted. I look forward to hearing from you. James, Butlins PR and Social Media Manager.

Heels99 · 15/07/2014 09:11

James, how about you treat all your customers with decency rather than getting the specific details of just one? Hmm

Good luck OP!

YANAgurl1973 · 15/07/2014 09:32

Similar happened to us many years ago at the Bognor resort. Urine stained mattresses, cupboards in kitchen and bathroom hanging off hinges etc. this was in silver accommodation. Went and complained and they gave us a free upgrade to gold. Keep complaining :)

ButlinsResorts · 15/07/2014 09:35

Hi KnackeredMuchly we pride ourselves on offering brilliant customer service and we're always happy to help. If you're relating to a particular incident or situation I'd be happy to discuss this and see what I can do. Thanks, James

Worked at Minehead in the 90s on guest accom. You clean the room to your standard then a supervisor comes round and rechecks. Sounds very like it wasn't on a list to be cleaned. However, having also worked on call out for housekeeping things did get overlooked!

I think cases like this are a one off as people only highlight places when things go wrong.
I have been to butlins a few times and it has always been clean.
We went this year and there was no towels in the accommodation (gold). A quick trip to customer services and the towels arrived within an hour.
The previous year we arrived and had no tv remote. I texted guest services and they sent one up within half an hour and then I found the missing one down the side of the couch the next day.
I have had similar issues at center parcs and they always sorted things pretty quickly too.

bearfrills · 15/07/2014 13:35

I've emailed James, I'm also waiting on a call back from customer services, nothing sorted as yet but hopefully soon.

We've been before and usually it's great, I normally recommend Butlins to everyone. This is the first time we've had a major problem so I really do hope it is a one off.

Like a previous poster says there is obviously some kind of mess up with information - although quite why they've been in to sort the error but not actually sorted it is a mystery.

I've stayed in every category of acomodation at Butlins and even the "standard" has been clean and tidy at the least. I'd be really unhappy so YANBU but my experience of Butlins is that they will sort problems out - and quickly. Hope your issue gets sorted soon and you can enjoy the rest of your holiday.

MagicMojito · 15/07/2014 13:42

We're looking at staying in the hotel for the four day tits and toddler event. I was starting to look forward to it aswell Hmm

Oh well i suppose its good to be able to read a range of such different experiences. We might just need to adjust our expectations

What a lucky coincidence this thread was Grin
I do hope its all resolved and your having a fab holiday OP

MagicMojito · 15/07/2014 13:44

*TOTS and toddler event ffs Blush Grin

CheeryName · 15/07/2014 13:47

ROFL at tits and toddlers. Is that like a special Cedar Falls event?!

I stayed once at butlins and it was basic but clean and we had a good time.

Judging but the amount of complaints I see about it here I wouldn't go again. I highly recommend bluestone in wales, like centre parcs but nicer, cheaper, and with a lot more included.
