To think DD is being silly?

DD requested a French manicure with my home gel nail kit, did it begrudgingly, she's 15 and I think it's ridiculous to do that to your nails at that age, plus it takes time and effort and she's not going out anywhere to show it off.
She's then asked for acrylic nails after her school term has ended, before we go on a canal holiday- lots of physical work, and probably broken nails. She's now upset I said no.

Tell her to get a Saturday job and pay for it herself.

She should be able to paint her nails if she chooses. Its not a tattoo, or a piercing.

And the best way to learn about how fragile a nail do can be is to let her get it done, and watch the destruction on holiday.

she's not too young to paint her nails - but if you don't like her having a manicure you can always say no to you doing it

She's 15? I think that is the exact age that your dd would be interested in those things. Think about it from her point of view; she has had a nice time with her mum doing her nails and she thinks this means you are seeing her as more grown up now. She has asked for more of the same and you have said no, you're not grown up enough yet.

I know it's tough OP but you are seeing her as more of a child than she is.

My dd is 14 and quite a few of her friends have their nails done. Dd doesn't but she does buy false ones and wear them on special occasions.

It may not be to your taste but your dd is finding her own way in life at this age and does want it done. I understand you don't want her to do it before a canal holiday but maybe a compromise could be made.

It wouldn't occur to me to control my daughters nails on weekends and holidays and she's only 8. I wouldn't pay for them though

I agree acrylics are tough on nails & not great, so would suggest (if I were you) that having gel on would allow her own nails to grow & would be a better alternative

DD is applying for jobs. 20 applied for and no replies. I still don't agree with it. She wants to look like a tart because the popular girls have them done, so she of course needs it. She's not popular, and wouldn't have many people to show then off to, I think that's the reason she wants them, to show off. She's also planning on babysitting her cousins- 2&3, and doesn't understand she couldn't properly look after them with ridiculously long nails, or bits of plastic hanging off the end of her fingers

You don't sound very nice tbh. Is this your normal relationship with your dd or are you having a particularly fraught time at the moment? Having her nails done is not going to make her look like a "tart" and it is very unkind of you to be so blunt about her lack of popularity. I hope you are a little nicer to her face. It's also perfectly possible for her to babysit with acrylic nails.

Also, you say she isn't popular and won't have people to show them off to. Did it ever occur to you that she wants her nails to look pretty for her, to make her feel better, not to show them off? I paint my nails and do nail art for me, as it makes me feel good and I enjoy it.

It sounds like you're imposing your own taste on her and not listening to her-its not like she wants a permanent tattoo that she might regret or something.

You really don't sound like you like your daughter very much! No wonder she wants to do things to give her confidence a boost.

Oh and if my dd at 15 wants me to spend time with her doing her nails, i will be thrilled. At 15 I would just be glad she wants to spend time with you if I'm honest.
