To not like these 'parking like an idiot' groups

On Facebook and also twitter are groups and pages dedicated to naming and shaming people for percieved bad driving, no attempt to anonymise the reg plates or faces or anything

They don't sit right with me at all

Before anyone asks no me and my car have not appeared on one of these groups Grin

If you're naming and shaming you can't anonymise. YPLAC makes an example of people who park inconsiderately; fine by me.

badtime · 03/07/2014 21:49

You can't shame someone who hasn't done anything shameful.

And some people do park like cunts, making things harder for other people to park or drive.

YABU.

If you don't park like an idiot, you won't get photographed.

asmallandnoisymonkey · 03/07/2014 21:50

I'm not sure it's 'perceived' bad driving - to be fair, most of these people have parked like utter twonks, haven't they? Thus annoying/inconveniencing any number of people around them?

HouseofEliot · 03/07/2014 21:50

I think they are great. People that think it's ok to park across disabled spaces or on corners of roads deserve everything they get. I feel like taking my camera to my childrens school and sending the pictures in. Our school entrance is in a small road about 30 metres long. People insist on parking there and blocking the whole road. My child came back from a trip yesterday the coach was then blocked in by people who have no brains whose children clearly cannot walk a few metres round the corner.

EatDessertFirst · 03/07/2014 21:52

YABU.

Maybe if more people were shamed people would stop parking like c.......dangerously.

You don't have to like or look at those Facebook pages. Its not compulsory.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 03/07/2014 21:53

I like them.

BrianButterfield · 03/07/2014 21:58

I've seen some where they make a point about someone parking over two spaces when the rest of the car park is empty...well, then it's not a problem, is it? It makes me anxious as I am not a confident Parker and have made mistakes even when really trying. It's a difficult skill and a lot of people who have been driving many decades longer than me say they find parking hard. I would hate to have made a real effort and still be shamed online. Sometimes my parking job has seemed fine but when the people around me go I realise I was perhaps a little far from the kerb or on the line at one side.

BrianButterfield · 03/07/2014 21:59

And I might add I see people parked the way I park every single time I go into a car park! I'm really not that bad but neither are some of the photos I've seen online.

HouseofEliot · 03/07/2014 22:01

Surely you check when you get out to see if you have parked badly or over the lines? You only need one space not the next one as well like I found at the hospital last week. Cars parked in 2 spaces meaning even though the barrier had let me as there was spaces when I drove round there were actually no spaces free.

magpiegin · 03/07/2014 22:03

YABU. I love @yplac. I am shit at parking, so don't park in spaces I can't get into or spend ages straightening up. There are so many cuntish, lazy, selfish parkers out there and I hope some of them see themselves.

I drive a lot and think most of it is pure selfishness and laziness over the actual inability to park properly.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 03/07/2014 22:04

The one I see on fb is pretty desperate. They post pictures of cars with one wheel touching the white line of the parking space and proceed to berate them. They're not parked particularly badly, just a bit wonky, they're not in anyone's way. Bit pathetic really.

BrianButterfield · 03/07/2014 22:06

Ilovemydog, that's what I mean. I'd never park on double yellows or somewhere I shouldn't but sometimes I'm a bit off-centre or wonky - I check and straighten if I can but sometimes (nursery car park, aka parking hell) there's always someone in your way so you just can't.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 03/07/2014 22:11

The ones I've seen are pretty extreme, car parked on hospital helipad for example

GoringBit · 03/07/2014 22:11

No naming or shaming, but this bit of parking at Tesco Lewisham made me Hmm

To not like these 'parking like an idiot' groups
Cruikshank · 03/07/2014 22:12

I think there's someone round here who posts on one of those sites - just recently I've noticed a few cars with bits of paper jammed under the wipers saying 'You park like a CUNT!!!' Only on ones that do park like cunts though. Presumably s/he then takes a photo. I think it's funny.

magoria · 03/07/2014 22:14

YPLAC was a great site. Now it has lots of pictures of women legs akimbo between the cars.

Real shame.

AgathaF · 03/07/2014 22:22

Won't bother the driver if they don't go on FB, surely?

Eminybob · 03/07/2014 22:25

What annoys me is the sense of entitlement these people who park like cunts must have. As if they don't think the rules apply to them. Parking in a disabled spot without a blue badge makes my blood boil with rage. Same with parent and child places to a degree.
Just being a bit wonky isn't an issue if it's not deliberate.

Cruikshank · 03/07/2014 22:29

Oh, we have all sorts round here, Eminybob. Parking on corners, parking on the path, parking in the several disabled bays assigned to neighbours (no off-street parking) and one utter twat the other day who decided to park horizontal to the kerb rather than vertical (I witnessed they got a wee note of shame).

Vintagejazz · 03/07/2014 23:51

People who park in disabled spaces, on dangerous bends, across driveways, or anywhere that causes serious inconvenience to others deserves to be named and shamed.

People who try to put people who park a bit wonkily in car parks in the same category are kind of missing the point.

Xcountry · 03/07/2014 23:59

My car appeared on one of these and I didn't give a fack!!! I parked my car horizontally across 6 spaces in a car part so I didn't obstruct the actual road with the massive trailer attached to the back of my truck. It doesn't bother me that some geek with an Iphone pictured my car and put it on facebook. Theres is no way anyone who does that is getting any and is probably really miserable with their life.

giraffescantboogie · 04/07/2014 00:03

yabu

goodasitgets · 04/07/2014 00:03

One RL example that made me Confused was a car parked blocking me in my private space. I asked her to move, she did and I reversed. Then she promptly drove straight in my space (with the big fat number and allocated parking on it)
The best was a company van parked in my space. Shame there was a 24/7 "how's my driving?" number on the back of it Wink

PinkSquash · 04/07/2014 00:04

I am tempted to do it to the utter arseholes who park completely on the curb on a blind bend, forcing pedestrians into the road. Lazy, entitled twats.
