To not like these 'parking like an idiot' groups

Morethanalittlebitconfused · 03/07/2014 21:37

On Facebook and also twitter are groups and pages dedicated to naming and shaming people for percieved bad driving, no attempt to anonymise the reg plates or faces or anything

They don't sit right with me at all

Before anyone asks no me and my car have not appeared on one of these groups Grin

I'd rather be part of a "lynch mob mentality" than park on a blind bend that could cause a fatality.

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 11:50

Has there been a picture of that?

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 11:51

Has anyone ever done that?

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 11:52

Still dont agree in lynch mobs.

That just makes two wrongs.

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 11:53

That is an age old argument.

I dont like A, but B is worse, so we will dismiss or ignore or belittle A
No we wont!
They are both wrong and both need correcting!!

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 04/07/2014 11:54

I love some of the views on here.

It's fine for me to park badly as I'm not good at parking/having a bad day/shouldn't be driving my car as I can't manage to park it.

But anyone taking pictures of my publicly badly parked car is an inconsiderate monster who is really being antisocial and unfair.

If you are unable and unwilling to legally and safely park your car, do not use it. You really don't have the right to inconvenience other members of the public by abandoning a few tons of metal in the road, and if you do you can hardly complain of someone takes a picture of it.

MelanieCheeks · 04/07/2014 11:55

But how does someone taking and sharing a picture of bad parking make the situation better?

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 11:56

Depends how many.
If it becomes a pack, then no.

Would you like a pack of people outside taking picture of your overflowing bin, and hundreds of said pictures appearing on the internet, fully identifiable, for all to see.

Where is the end?

How about if your child dies, and the press never leaves the outside of your house?

Where are the limits?
Where are the boundaries?

It is the pack mentality I object to.

VivienScott · 04/07/2014 11:57

Where's the, 'I cross the road like a moron' website for people who walk out onto the road without looking, or 'I cycle like a prat' one? Yes some car drivers are idiots, but it's not just car drivers, it's that there is an element of road users in general that are idiots and all these websites do is increase the vilification of all car users by stirring up general hatred towards them.

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 11:58

There are groups doing this according the op.

Will or do they do it to family members?
Those family members they dont like?

paxtecum · 04/07/2014 12:04

YABU. They are great for showing up idiots who park on zigzags outside schools. Our local comp had problems with six formers as well as parents doing this.

Morethanalittlebitconfused · 04/07/2014 12:17

Bad driving pisses me off, as does bad parking, but I'm fucked if I understand how shaming them is supposed to help at all!!

OP posts:
MyFairyKing · 04/07/2014 12:21

There have been many pictures of people parking on blind bends.

MarmaladeShatkins · 04/07/2014 12:26

"I've seen some where they make a point about someone parking over two spaces when the rest of the car park is empty...well, then it's not a problem, is it?"

Yes, that is because it is a fucking selfish thing to do! There's nothing more frustrating in a packed carpark than seeing some twonk taking up two spaces. It just says "I'm more important than you." If you can't park in an average-sized car park space, then you need to take your test again. It is a basic driving skill.

People who park inconsiderately really boil my piss. YABU. I think these groups are great.

Deverethemuzzler · 04/07/2014 12:37

angelos really is that what you 'think'?

Seems that devastating argument is invading every board on MN at the moment.

'well, well if you don't like it you must be DOING it!!!!'

Its like the ghosts of Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill and Plato have arisen and are dropping their cerebral witticisms all about the place Hmm

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 12:41

I dont agree with the concept of joint naming and shaming.
Talk about judging people.

Let those without sin throw the first stone.

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 12:42

What can you be publically named and shamed over Marmalade?

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 12:45

Shall we name and shame

Bad cyclist driving
Bad car driving
Bad parenting
Bad drinking habits
Bad drug taking
Bad smoking
Bad feminists
Bad food habits
Bad exercise
Bad tweeness
Bad [running out of things now..!]

MarmaladeShatkins · 04/07/2014 12:48

Nothing.

I'm like Mary Poppins, me. Practically perfect in every way.

MyFairyKing · 04/07/2014 12:53

If you need to be 'shamed', then surely you are doing something shameful. I can't tell you the number of times I've tried to park and found no blue badge spaces because selfish fuckers without badges park there. Most parking officers are bloody useless too. They deserve to be shamed online.

MyFairyKing · 04/07/2014 12:54

setting Some of those are strawmen arguments. Parenting and being a feminist is subject. Parking dangerously and illegally? Not so much....

settingsitting · 04/07/2014 13:03

So like morethan says
what good does it do?

Report to the police any dangerous driving or dangerous parking. It is a police matter. Not a lynch mob matter.

MarmaladeShatkins · 04/07/2014 13:12

LOL at lynch mob. You do know what a lynch mob is, don't you? And it's certainly not a group of people being very passive-aggressive on a Facebook page.

MarmaladeShatkins · 04/07/2014 13:13

As for what good does it do, it might make people think about not parking like a complete wanker. My friend re-parked her car at the gym last week in case she got papped on one of those groups!

MyFairyKing · 04/07/2014 15:17

It's not a police matter in a private carpark. If it shames them in public, maybe just maybe, they will think twice.
