To think this wedding song is inappropriate

A good friend is getting married later this year and we were speaking on the phone and she told me what she plans to have as the first dance at her wedding:

Let's get it on (think it'a by Marvin Gaye)

Very nice romantic song but isn't it all about sex. I feel weird about watching her and her husband dance face to face basically singing about how they're going to go and fuck eachother I know they are anyway but I have an innocent mind in front of their parents

AIBU and a massive prude? Grin

Odd choice on the surface of it, but they may have their own reasons for it.

Fevertree · 14/05/2014 21:51

my parents' first dance was sexual healing Grin

I think it's funny! is it meant to be funny? If so then YABU and prudish, but if it's a serious first dance then YANBU, it is a little bit odd!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 14/05/2014 21:53

I'm sure someone posted recently about a first dance being "you say it best when you say nothing at all" If we ever get married never going to happen that's going to be first on the list!

Thenapoleonofcrime · 14/05/2014 21:54

Not that bad really- I think it must be all in your mind...

"Let's Get It On"

I've been really tryin , baby
Tryin to hold back these feelings for so long
And if you feel, like I feel baby
Come on, oh come on,

Let's get it on
Lets get it on
Let's get it on
Let's get it on

We're all sensitive people
With so much love to give, understand me sugar
Since we got to be
Lets say, I love you

There's nothin wrong with me
Lovin you
And givin yourself to me can never be wrong
If the love is true

Don't you know how sweet and wonderful, life can be
I'm askin you baby, to get it on with me
I aint gonna worry, I aint gonna push
So come on, come on, come on, come on baby
Stop beatin round the bush....

Let's get it on
Let's get it on
Let's get it on
Let's get it on

MissPennySweet · 14/05/2014 21:56

She is 100% deadly serious, I love her to bits but she is a total Bridezilla enthusiastic about her wedding being a traditional serious event.

I guess the lyrics aren't actually that bad.....I just thought it had serious sexual overtones Grin

It sounds like he's really really trying to talk her into it. That's off putting in itself.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 14/05/2014 21:56

I wanted Pencil Full of Lead but DH kindly pointed out it is a song about a guy whose penis is ready for sex Grin

WordOfTheDay · 14/05/2014 22:02

"Getting it on" is shagging. So, yeah, it's a song going on and on about wanting to hump.

ChicosGirl · 14/05/2014 22:05

depends how they're gonna dance to it

Atbeckandcall · 14/05/2014 22:05

Perfectly sensible choice with great aunt Enid watching on Confused

Let's hope she's deaf.

Cocolepew · 14/05/2014 22:07

Maybe they're goinng to bump and grind to it Grin

Ememem84 · 14/05/2014 22:10

We had ten ft tall by pete Murray. Lovely lovely song. Makes it even Lovlier when you know he wrote it about a friend who died of cancer.

Not a wedding song when you know this. Dh tricked me.

MaryWestmacott · 14/05/2014 22:12

I've been to a wedding where they had U2's with or without you.

Could be worse, she could want Crosby Stills and Nash - love the one you're with ("if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with")

EmpireBiscuit · 14/05/2014 22:17

I was at a wedding where the first dance was KoL sex on fire!

Parietal · 14/05/2014 22:21

we had that walking out of our (informal, non-church) ceremony! DH wanted sexual healing but I vetoed it. venue must have been a bit )o( because they put the music so quiet no one could hear. but we thought it was fun anyway.

hiddenhome · 14/05/2014 22:24

At least it's not that Robin Thicke abomination Confused

Cataline · 14/05/2014 22:25

I LOVE it!!

softlysoftly · 14/05/2014 22:26

Ha no I wouldn't personally have chosen it no!

But then we had "you never can tell" by Chuck Berry our slightly PA first dance Grin

CoffeeTea103 · 14/05/2014 22:26

Grin Each to their own I guess. I'm sure peoples expressions are going to be priceless.

leafhopper · 14/05/2014 22:27

We had the Jimmy Buffet classic "Why don't we get drunk and screw". "Lets get it on" seems quiet polite and restrained.

ICantFindAFreeNickName · 14/05/2014 22:28

Maybe it's a special meaningful song for them. The first song they danced to or something.

Hassled · 14/05/2014 22:28

I went to a wedding where the song was Love and Affection by Joan Armatrading. It starts:
"I'm not in love - but I'm open to persuasion"

I was baffled.

Atbeckandcall · 14/05/2014 22:30

Grin leafhopper.

My parents went to a wedding where the first dance was U2's Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.Shock
