To think this wedding song is inappropriate

A good friend is getting married later this year and we were speaking on the phone and she told me what she plans to have as the first dance at her wedding:

Let's get it on (think it'a by Marvin Gaye)

Very nice romantic song but isn't it all about sex. I feel weird about watching her and her husband dance face to face basically singing about how they're going to go and fuck eachother I know they are anyway but I have an innocent mind in front of their parents

AIBU and a massive prude? Grin

I once served at a wedding that had "No More I Love You's" as their processional.

I can't remember their first dance. Because that's all we talked about.

SolidGoldBrass · 15/05/2014 02:00

There's a whole thread in Crap Wedding Songs. An awful lot of people don't listen to the lyrics of songs, which is why stuff like James Blunt's You're Beautiful is so popular for the First Dance. Despite being all about how he never gets the girl and therefore drowns himself.

Gennz · 15/05/2014 05:29

One of DH's mates walked down the aisle to Let's Get It On. The aisle of the beautiful historical chapel. It was uber tacky.

MinesAPintOfTea · 15/05/2014 05:52

The night has a thousand eyes?
Every step you take?

We had Marc Cohn's (outs self)

unobtanium · 15/05/2014 06:10

The Great Aunt Enids of this world tend to love sexual inuendo more than anyone. So I would say relax your judgey pants and enjoy along with everyone else!

CPtart · 15/05/2014 06:40

A friend had "We have all the time in the world" by Louis Armstrong....now that was classy.
We didn't have a first dance.

StealthPolarBear · 15/05/2014 06:46

"HassledWed 14-May-14 22:28:49

I went to a wedding where the song was Love and Affection by Joan Armatrading. "

Apart feom anything else that must have been reallu difficult to dancw to!

StealthPolarBear · 15/05/2014 06:47

We had jonny b goodw

NoArmaniNoPunani · 15/05/2014 06:55

We had Sean Paul Like Glue. I'm not into romantic songs.

Let's get it on is fine, it's not explicit

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/05/2014 07:24

I read a wedding planning book that suggested Sting's Every Breath You Take, when it's about a stalker! It was a library book so I crossed it out (in pencil) because it was such terrible advice. I also complained to the publisher.

OwlinaTree · 15/05/2014 07:31

Shall we suggest some alternatives? I'll start with..

We've only just begun - carpenters. I'd have has this but friends beat us to it!

TartanRug · 15/05/2014 07:32

My friend had 'Love on The Rocks' by Neil Diamond which I thought was a trifle odd.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 15/05/2014 07:33

You can't beat a bit of marvin. At least it wasn't Mercy mercy me. Personally I'd have gone with How sweet it is to be loved by you.

AddUpToNothing · 15/05/2014 07:33

I'm all for it if it means something to the bride and groom. First dance songs always remind me of that scene in The Wedding Planner where they're just picking a song off a wedding cd. No thought.

I went to a good friends wedding where their first dance was to The Pogues Fairytale of New York!

StoorieHoose · 15/05/2014 07:39

Mine was Grow old with You from The Wedding Singer. If it means something to the B and G, who has the right to think its inappropriate?

Fathertedfan · 15/05/2014 07:42

A friend of mine married as a teenager thirty years ago. She had 'Yesterday' by the Beatles.

Lovecat · 15/05/2014 07:56

I think Let's Get it On is a great song for a first dance! It's meant to be a slowie after all...

We nearly had Love and Affection by JA but yes, it is hard to dance to.

We then nearly had 'A Night Like This' by the Cure but DH (whose fave song it was) had totally misheard the lyrics and didn't realise it was a break up song...

We then wanted Sign Your Name by Terence Trent D'Arby, but the best man left it behind, so we were stuck with the DJ selection. Which was Bryan Adams. In our defence it wasn't number one yet...

Been to a wedding (we were friends of friends, I have no idea why we were invited) where the first dance was to Secret Lovers by Atlantic Starr. I expressed my mild surprise to the friend that that was their choice and she told me they'd deliberately chosen it because they'd both been with other partners when they'd first got together... Classy.

jenipat · 15/05/2014 08:11

With or Without You. A song about two people who can't stand being together nor apart, either and are stuck between devil and deep blue sea.

Lol. Grin Grin

Born Slippy 'not an obvious choice for a wedding dance...' No shit, Sherlock. Grin

CuntBiscuit · 15/05/2014 08:22

We had Highway to Hell. Their wedding, their choice.

CuntBiscuit · 15/05/2014 08:24

(mind, we also played DIzzy by Vic Reeves at the ceremony)

ballinacup · 15/05/2014 08:30

Redcliff are you mates with the woman that called in to Heart radio yesterday morning? She walked into the venue to pink 'get the party started' and they left to 'every day I love you less and less'.

kentishgirl · 15/05/2014 08:36

I nearly wet myself stifling laughter at a Mario winans 'I don't wanna know' first dance. It's all about the woman having an affair.

Somebody said they saw you
The person you were kissing wasn't me
And I would never ask you
I just kept it to myself

I don't wanna know
If you're playin' me, keep it on the low
Cause my heart can't take it anymore
And if your creepin, please don't let it show
Oh baby, I don't wanna know

it gets even worse after that. It's a loooooong song.

TouchPauseEngage · 15/05/2014 08:39

I have been at a wedding where this was played. The B&G were very religious and had never erm, got it on , everyone knew this and my friends and I were all Hmm

TouchPauseEngage · 15/05/2014 08:40

And FWIW we had Heroes by David Bowie as our first dance

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 15/05/2014 08:46

If we ever get married it would have to be either You're The One For Me, Fatty by Morrissey or the title music from The Young Ones (not the cliff version)

Can you tell we aren't the most romantic of couples? But each song means a great deal to us. And we don't take life too seriously.
