Just out of curiosity really! I have come through a hard time, but am feeling great now, very happy in myself and about to start a new job. After being single for a few years I feel ready to get out there and start dating again. Unsure at this stage if I will get to meet many new people through my work, but it's possible. Thinking of trying online dating.

Where did you meet your partner? Was it purely by chance or were you looking for a relationship?

Nightclub, saw him and thought he was fit but out with the girls it was just a fleeting look, turns out he was close mates with my best friend's boyfriend, absolutely not looking for a relationship.

Mutual hobby. Think say Morris Dancing or Church Choir type of thing.

He moved into the area, joined the local hobby, we got on well, I was already married. Got dumped, he was one of the gang who rallied support for moi. Over time we got close, then closer. Holding my hair back to be sick after drinking games kinda closer. Arf.

Two children and nearly two decades on, well, here we are.

BitchPeas · 10/05/2014 14:59

Met him through work at 17, always had a laugh but never looked at him like that.

Left the company, bumped into him again 2 years later aged 24, realised id missed him and was so happy to see him (weird I know Confused ) he poked me on Facebook (childish Grin ) we started chatting, he asked me out for a dunk after much beating around the bush Smile

I've never been happier and never in a million years expected to end up with him!

Forgettable · 10/05/2014 15:00

BitchP - he took you for a dunk !! How very cheeky! Wink

Nosleeptillbedtime · 10/05/2014 15:03

At a party. I was single, so I was on the look out I suppose. He is a scientist. Parties with scientists are a good source of single men!

snickers251 · 10/05/2014 15:03

At work, I used to find all sorts of reasons to phone him (I was office staff and he's an engineer) and we still work together but were running our own business Smile

Groovee · 10/05/2014 15:05

Forced into a blind date with my college friends. I didn't want to go as I was about to go and work abroad. Ended up going anyway, fell in love, worked abroad, got married and had kids.

Wasn't what I had planned in my head at all.

bluesolveig · 10/05/2014 15:06

we met at the birthday party of a friend-in-common (he'd been at university with her & I worked with her) but were complete strangers at that point. Neither of us were looking - I was very casually seeing someone else at the time - we were inseparable from that night onwards though. We got married & bought a house less that a year after meeting for the first time & now have four children and have just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary :)

Musicaltheatremum · 10/05/2014 15:06

On stage. Doing The Mikado at university. Actually met him the year before but thought he was awful. Parents met the same way funnily enough.

bluesolveig · 10/05/2014 15:07

"Parties with scientists are a good source of single men!"

Absolutely!

maras2 · 10/05/2014 15:09

November 1968 at a Young Socialists meeting.I knew that he'd be going so wore my shortist mini and tallest stilettos.I was 15 he was a 19 year old art student with long black hair black trench coat black motor cycle boots and a Che Guevare beret. < swoon > He's still gorgeous at 63.

EyelinerQueen · 10/05/2014 15:10

In a Halls of Residence kitchen on day 3 of Fresher's Week. I'd just moved to England.

He made me laugh more than anyone I'd ever met and looked like Charlie from Busted. That was 13 years ago Smile

pricklyPea · 10/05/2014 15:11

What's the point of having aibu? Should this be in chat?

Feminine · 10/05/2014 15:11

In a nightclub in Japan.

20 years ago come November :)

PosyFossilsShoes · 10/05/2014 15:11

Mutual hobby. And one in which men outnumber women about 25:1, so I think a few of the chaps were slightly miffed when two of the single women started seeing each other. Smile

gamescompendium · 10/05/2014 15:14

At University studying for our PhDs. Almost everyone in our set of friends paired up with each other.

AOL chatrooms. I was not looking for anyone. I was a single mum to DD1, age 9 and used to go in them for company once she was in bed.

SmashleyHop · 10/05/2014 15:22

I came over on vacation with a friend. Went to a concert at a small venue in Liverpool and I stepped on his coat. We spent the rest of the evening together (with my friend and a few of his mates of course). He took the day off work to show us around the next day. We were glorified penpals for about a year until he came out to see me in San Francisco. The rest is history!

TallyGrenshall · 10/05/2014 15:23

At work, at the smoking corner.

Absolutely not looking for anyone

Lacreon · 10/05/2014 15:25

in a bar on a night out with my best mate- was just on a girls night out for a bit of a dance and had actually sworn off men at the time...

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 10/05/2014 15:27

At work. Used to chat. Neither of us were single at the time but when I bumped into him again we both were. Went from there. Married with DC now.

crazyspaniel · 10/05/2014 15:27
