To not give the poor man a lift?

Just driving home down the quiet lane to my village in the pouring rain and passed a really morose looking guy, walking the same way and carrying two heavy looking shopping bags. My good side thought I should stop and give him a lift. The bad side thought 'he's really fat, he needs the exercise. Plus he looks a bit like a chain saw killer in a bad mood'. So I drove on and feel guilty now, as I normally like to give people a lift. I do know I am a bad person really :/

You're not a bad person. Depending on where you live, giving lifts to strangers can be a bad idea. That said, it's highly unlikely he was a murderer, probably just fed up and wet!

Caitlin17 · 20/04/2014 17:41

You're not a bad person. If I'd had someone with me I might have stopped, but not on my own.

neiljames77 · 20/04/2014 17:42

You're being very judgy and unkind............ but I think you did the right thing because he may have stunk.

17leftfeet · 20/04/2014 17:44

He's really far and could do with the exercise?

Oh nice!!! Hmm

Agreed, not unreasonable for not giving a lift but your comments are so unkind.

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 18:09

I'm not really that fattist, I just genuinely thought the exercise would do him good. And was honest enough to admit it. But yes you are right, I shouldn't have thought that. But the aggressive 'c*nt' comment has just lost you the moral high ground, ball.

He probably wouldn't have got in the car with someone like you anyway.

Your car is probably marked down as belonging to the only twat in the village...

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 18:15

Haha that's true, I probably look equally dubious!

OP posts:
Topseyt · 20/04/2014 18:16

I wouldn't stop and offer lifts to people I didn't know anyway. It would be a very small risk, but not one I am prepared to take.

That said, your comment that he is fat and could do with the exercise has put me right off you. Many of us are overweight for a variety of reasons, and being judged by others does not make life any easier. I assume you are a slender, perfect size 10 and have never had any problems with your weight. Lucky you. I have battled with mine all of my adult life due to medical problems. Stop judging.

Worra Grin Grin Grin

HarrietSchulenberg · 20/04/2014 18:28

I would have given him a lift. Over Christmas I stopped to give a lift to a very pissed man who was weaving all over a country lane. Thought he'd only be going a few hundred yards to the nearest houses but turns out he was aiming for the little town 7 miles away ! Which is where I was going anyway.
I did offer him a lift to his door but he said, "It's ok, just drop me by The Bull's Head (pub)" Grin.
I honestly think he'd have been killed if I hadn't picked him up as it was pitch black, raining and he was weaving everywhere. Although he might have drunk himself to death before the night was out.
He kept me entertained with his pissed conversation all the way back.

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 18:32

Yes I will definitely give him a lift next time to make up for being judgy; I am not usually judgy and I do usually give lifts, which was why I was feeling guilty!

OP posts:
neiljames77 · 20/04/2014 18:39

I must say, you have been judgy and have made some shocking assumptions in your op. Not all chain saw killers are in a bad mood.

FarelyKnuts · 20/04/2014 18:51

Was he carrying a chain saw? Because that would be a bit of a giveaway!

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 18:57

There was no chain saw that I could see. I am feeling soo bad now :(

Grumpyrealist77 · 20/04/2014 18:59

DON'T stop being judgy, Goat!!!
We all judge, everyone seems to be judging you for being judgy...
Go with gut instincts on stranger pick-ups and hey, if someone's fat, they're fat. And COULD do with the exercise... a spade is a spade and all that!

neiljames77 · 20/04/2014 18:59

Seriously though, I don't think you should be giving blokes a lift unless it's a frail old man etc.

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 19:05

I did have a slightly scary experience giving a bloke a lift once, but then my friend gave a women a lift and she was a freaky lunatic. But generally I would still give a lift because the chances of getting murdered are so remote.

OP posts:
Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 19:06

I really don't like being judgy as I don't live a conventional life really. I am a skinny size 8, I think my fattist side is because I am a bit scared of getting fat.

OP posts:
ThatBloodyWoman · 20/04/2014 19:12

He probably would have said no anyhows.
You know-what with being fat an' all.

CitronVert · 20/04/2014 19:13

I was driving to work one day and saw a colleague waiting at a bus stop. I screeched to a halt and offered her a lift, at which point I realised it wasn't actually my colleague but a total stranger Blush

She, however, accepted the lift and not only did I have to give her a lift to her work (which was about mile further along from my own work) but I told her I often gave random people lifts out of the kindness of my heart as I couldn't otherwise explain my actions.

I still don't know why she got in the car with me though. I could have been anybody and there were a good dozen or so other people at the bus stop I could have chosen Confused

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 19:17

Haha that's a brilliant tale, thank you :)

OP posts:
SoleSource · 20/04/2014 19:27

I didn't stop to offer a woman a lift as she was too skinny. Ugh.

Thegoatprophecy · 20/04/2014 19:30

That's enough chastisement, I have already admitted my guilt and wrongness!!
