To hate potty training with a passion?

It doesn't help that I started DD on the potty a week ago today then this week I've got ill and DP is working away. But I'm slowly going insane.

I HATED potty training DS so I've put this off as long as possible, even though DD is extremely bright in all areas. She's 3 in 4 weeks, so I'm not exactly starting too early.

On her first day, she was fantastic. I expected accidents galore but she barely had any and weed and pooed in the potty/toilet.

Since then it's been downhill! She hasn't actually wet herself for 2 days, but every day since Saturday she's shit herself. She hasn't done one poo in the potty, and now almost refuses to use the toilet.

I ask her every 5 minutes if she needs a wee or a poo, and take her to the potty every 15-30 minutes. But she'll just shit herself regardless. Then she'll come and tell me with a smile on her face, or says she wanted to poo in her knickers, so it's as if she's doing it on purpose!

I can't stand it any more. We're normally so close but I'm feeling really angry towards her about this :( her grandma has taken her for the afternoon as I've got two other DC and still feel poorly.

It's rubbish!

One thing worse than changing a shitty nappy - changing shitty pants. Sorry, I'm not being very helpful, I just feel your pain :)

My dd got the hang of it quickly too but then nursery kept putting her in nappies "just in case". She regressed and got all confused and started having regular accidents.

We did Smartie bribery for a couple of weeks (and a very firm word with nursery) and it got it all sorted out. Then she chose to switch from potty to toilet ("big girl") and we dropped the Smarties at the same time.

It IS really frustrating when you know they know but they still have accidents.

Teenage - that's terrible re nursery. It was our nursery that said she ought to be starting really which prompted this. I think she likes the attention as I've been telling her off when she does it, and the toddler and 5 year old come running to see what's going on. I've started being silent now when she does it, but it's hard... I want to scream!

Why don't you try this then; home school for a while then send your NT 5 year old child to school without trying to potty train and tell the teachers to do it because it is their job and you didn't fancy doing it.

Buttons? Schmuttons! What worked with DS1 was a bloody great chocolate Santa (it was early january). I got so sick of the pooey pants every day, sometimes more than once, total refusal to poo on the toilet or potty or even on the floor! Poo goes to Pooland on youtube helped a bit, and not losing my temper in front of him as well, but mostly it was the chocolate Santa.

Hahahahaha!!! God, I'd happily poo on demand for a giant chocolate Santa. I really ought to ask her grandma to bring something edible with her...

Oh! Just to add to my perfect week, 16 month DD took her nappy off in her cot this morning and then shit. When I found her, there was poo EVERYWHERE. Chunks on the sheets, smeared all over her fave teddy, in her ears, in between her fingers and toes, all over her face and all over her dummy. Brilliant.

Shock Oh god don't say that, my 15mo boy is adept at removing his nappy too although he hasn't worked out how to get out of his bag so its all contained during the night.

April - only 1 week Shock it took 4 months with DS. I'd fully understand if she wasn't there yet - but she did poo on the potty on the first day! And use the toilet! So why the refusal now? :(

Juniper - DS and DD1 always used to smear shit all over their cots/bedroom walls. That was depressing!

Couldnt stand it myself. Surprised more people dont complain about it tbh. DH took over the job from me, he was better at it.

I wish DP could. He works away a lot and I'm a SAHM to naturally it falls to me. Ugh. I woul pay someone to do this... Every morning I feel a sense of dread as it starts again! Sick of hearing my own voice every 2 minutes asking if she needs to go and try...

I'm with bribery as well.
I was having problems with my DD.
Spoke to a friend who suggested a sweet box.
DD got to choose which sweets and then she got 1 sweet for a wee and 2 sweets for a poo.
Took a weekend!!!
I know it's probably not the best way to do it - but if it works!!??

I'm sure I did this with DS and it worked ... I'm worried that she'll expect sweets every time after a while though. Although DS didn't, but he didn't really talk at 3, whereas she will tell me what she wants!

My DD2 is adept at whipping her nappy off at any given opportunity. Which is why she is still in pop-up vests - she can't undo those. And when she does figure it out I will find something that zips up the back. Or possibly put her in a swimming cossy.

Oh Jesus east, don't get all heavy on me now! Well I'm her mother, I suppose. Probably basing most of this on the fact she started speaking at 16 months.

Maybe her sister is even brighter? She was clever enough to be born on her due date!

Jeez, my house smells of shit right now and I'm already nauseous, no need for the questions Hmm

Potty or toilet training early has nothing to do with intelligence or being able to talk.
If it's a real chore then they probably aren't ready - no matter what someone who thinks they've read the manual says!

Buttons worked for me too, they still get them as DTD regressed a bit. On the cost benefit analysis of choc buttons vs my sanity, buttons won every time.

DTD when asked why she pooed (sp?) in her pants, smiled and said, "Because I like it". That was really depressing. Her two brothers got it much more quickly, she just wasn't that bothered.

Bollocks to four months op! Why the fuck should you have to do it because nursery - who you pay - decide it's time. Utter rubbish. speaking or not, she sounds like she isn't ready. I waited with all of mine until they where nearly three. And all of them were dry in less than two days, because they were totally up to speed with what I was doing and they went straight on the bog proper. They are age 17 and twins who're nine. Life's full of hardships op, make it easy where you cam imo.
