to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

If you don't like McDonalds start a new thread, Terri. I think everyone lost interest in this one 18 months ago.

Who's Ethel?

Presuming not my sat nav?

I think it is utterly vile but children seem to see it as a treat if they only go there once or twice a year. Personally i think you can't beat Wetherspoons for cheap and cheerful - I had lunch for £3.49 last week (baguette, chips salad and fruit juice).

Healthy fresh food isn't a treat. It's a meal that's expected everyday.

French fries and chicken nuggets are something most kids can't get enough of but shouldn't be eaten everyday, therefore it is a treat. Also, the meal comes with a toy. So you have a both food that is served quickly and a toy to shut them up keep them entertained for a few moments of quiet.

It's a treat for the adults too, just not for the same reasons. Grin

Why is McDonalds a treat? Because a) the kids love it and b) it's not healthy so not done often.

I love steak, red wine and roast potatoes. Also not so healthy and some of it not cheap, so again, treat. As soon as the kids hanker after fresh and flavoursome food in the same way I shall treat them all the time Grin.

None of us is overweight.

YY to Wetherspoons food being a cheap and cheerful treat (yes I know everything is microwaved, what of it)

Maccy D's turns my fucking stomach. I can't stand the smell of the place. I remember being taken there for a 'treat' by my stepdad while my little brother was being born and thought what a rubbish fucking treat it was (I was 6 and it was 1992, no idea if it's better now)

In the words of Morgan Spurlock who made Super Size Me - because it tastes really good! And yes it tastes good because they have added flavourings and extra salt and sugar to disguise the cheap ingredients, but it still tastes good.

It also sets off my IBS - the fries in particular as they are soaked in sulfites, so I don't indulge, but I do consider Subway a treat :)
