I like Fairenuff's idea about the remote control penguins. You could make them lurk by her bin.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/02/2014 15:14

I think one of the penguins should be named 'Parker'. The other could be 'Sue'.

perfectstorm · 19/02/2014 16:21

it seems that one or two thought that we owned the land, leased it to the LL and then changed our minds and took it back - yeah I know they have all been told the full story but thats what a few think

I do wonder whether the LL spun one of them that tale, if they contacted him directly. He's been very much less than candid with you in the past, and charged for one space knowing full well it belonged to you. So I can see him trying to deflect blame if faced with an angry phone call.

Hopefully the nice tenant will be able to set most of the rest straight. And the great thing about tenants is they'll move on, too - at least they aren't nightmare owner-occupier neighbours!

AreYouBlueOrAreYouBlind · 19/02/2014 19:54

tb that is the best random fact I've heard this year. Grin

HazeltheMcWitch · 19/02/2014 20:33

May I be an utter pedant re the Pingu / clown thing ?

What tb said isn't quite right... Pingu speaks Penguinese (bear with), a nonsense language created just for the series. It is quite a rich language, it has patterns and structure that mean that people from all around the world relate to it, and think that they can recognise words and sounds within. The chap that created the Penguinese drew from Italian/French clowning tradition of using nonsense languages, albeit ones with a real-life base.

tb · 19/02/2014 20:42

Sorry if I got it wrong - it's just what the people at Hot Animation who produced it told me.

HazeltheMcWitch · 19/02/2014 20:51

Oh, sorry if I have offended you, tb. I think they gave you an edited version of the language story.

tb · 19/02/2014 21:06

Hazel no offence, just a bit sad that it's not quite true

nauticant · 19/02/2014 21:19

That reminds me about how in The Clangers, Oliver Postgate had written out complete scripts of Clanger conversations and then presented them via the medium of swannee whistle.

RenterNomad · 19/02/2014 22:31

The abuse heaped on "tenants" here is beginning to get on my nerves. These are people and wankers, not people defined by being tenants.

As for the alarmist and totally unsupported suggestio n that these unpleasant people will suddenly escalate, from screeching and petty parking aggression, to the outright violence of hurting a pet... get a fucking grip!

MrsDC, by all means report harassment to the police. It's the sensible thing to do, and also probably the most defusing. Please don't take any of these suggestions about teasing the tenants further. As I said, they don't seem to have resorted to sny violence, so there's probably no physicsl risk, but they are emotionally volatile, and you don't need to make that worse. Also, antagonising people is just the wrong thing to do.

ToAvoidConversation · 19/02/2014 22:34

RenterNomad. I think you'll find a lot of this thread is said in jest. The term 'tenants' has also been used to differ between the the landlord and his tenants. They aren't the owners in this situation, which is relevant, hence referring to them as tenants.... Because they just are!

Have a Brew or a Wine.

MajorGrinch · 19/02/2014 22:37

They've hardly covered themselves in glory though have they?

No-one is having a go at "tenants" in general, just this unpleasant and abusive bunch.....

I agree they shouldn't be antagonised, but I don't think the OP is likely to do any such thing given the fact that she has to live with the results so I'd take the suggestions from uninvolved parties with a pinch of salt & not let them get on any nerves....

OwlCapone · 19/02/2014 22:53

What abuse heaped on tenants?

There is abuse heaped on certain of these tenants and deservedly so.

Fairenuff · 19/02/2014 23:09

Bin lady, is that you?

EduCated · 19/02/2014 23:17

I'm a tenant. At no point on this thread had anyone even remotely suggested that all tenants are like this, or abused tenants in general Hmm

RenterNomad · 19/02/2014 23:20

I didn't say they were nice, or misunderstood. I think some of them have acted like brats.

But what about: " But I would be careful of "Miss. Mad Bin Laden lady" as she might decide to try and poison your pets in revenge (for loss ofHERparking space)!." Totally unnecessary invention. (yes, I know other people have pulled RealAle up on this, but another dissenting voice can't hurt)

And, alongside the acknowledgements that the LL had shafted his tenants and was likely still lying to them or had perhaps had sold MrsDC the land in an under the table deal (leaving the tenants out in the cold), there was some rather unpleasant gloating about how much money the tenants might waste on fruitless legal challenges, how stupid they are in general, blah blah blah.

Even though these people have been nasty neighbours and "entitled", it's in very poor taste, and also stupid, because antagonising unpleasant people (e.g. making them feel more powerless) causes them to become more unpleasant.

TalkinPeace · 19/02/2014 23:38

RenterNomad
Please bear in mind that if the tenants and the landlord of the building had not behaved outrageously over parking issues, OP would not have had her solicitor do the searches on who did own the land.

Therefore they have only themselves to blame for being unreasonable at the start.

TinyTwoTears · 19/02/2014 23:43

I have just read the two threads !

mrsDC, it must be getting quite stressful now, so I hope you aren't upset further by it. Especially with blood pressure worries.

All the best for a happy and healthy rest of pregnancy Flowers

RenterNomad · 19/02/2014 23:45

Cheers, Fairenuff.

I am bearing that in mind, Talkinpeace, but think you've misunderstood my objection, and I may not have been talking about any of your posts, anyway.

Anyway, 'night, all!

RealAleandOpenFires · 20/02/2014 01:27

I opolgise to Mrs DC & others about my last post.

I didn't mean to add further worries to already tense situation.

Greenkit · 20/02/2014 05:50

.

PedantMarina · 20/02/2014 06:42

I see what renternomad is saying, and generally I thought suggestions that were going to make our lively MrsDC more stressed were unwise.

however, as a tenant myself, I've not been offended yet. I've only seen it as "... as opposed to LL or LA".

moreover, the "labelling" of things is mainly relevant if one is thinking of [being on the doling-out end of] violence: it is well-known that, in order to be able to commit violence against another, you have to think of them as something 'other' and/or lesser. I've never got this off any of the ClanDCs' descriptions or reports of their actions. indeed, MrsDC has been at pains to point out 'nice tenant', 'yelly tenant', 'bin lady'. if anything, there's a bit of labelling from the other side: bin lady's reference to 'own the island'.

I don't think it's going to come to violence, but do look after yourself, MrsDC. PS. aldi did CCTV for c.£50?70? a few weeks ago.

Finally, MrsDC, if you're ever feeling down by some of the kerfuffle, you have only to remember how we all reacted when hearing the original situation. Imagine your life now if you hadn't bought the land, but landlord had. Peace will come, eventually. But if you had made the other decision, it may never had, until sheer frustration would have caused YOU to move, probably losing money off the house.

Kerfuffles are temporary. land lasts forever.

I love the idea of a penguin party
