dreamies, my cat is an addict

my cat had dreamies at Christmas in her stocking from Santa Paws. ( ok I know) anyway she's absolutly addicted now. I have to keep buying them and she's always trying to get her paw into the cupboard to steal some. she howls and miaows at us all constantly if we pass the cupboard.

are they a cat drug? should I make her go cold turkey?

advice please cat owners.

I was told of similar reactions from other owners, but our cat won't look twice at them, but then she is a right contrary little madam.

Our cats also go completely crazy over Dreamies, and they are so expensive! We tried the Felix version, not the same.

We dole out four little ones each in theory in the morning and in the evening- but one of our cats just sits and begs for them all the time.

It is crack for cats.

Yep...our two are tge same though our ginger cat is a flipping nightmare. ..they get themas a treat before bed ( about 10pm) and she sits at the cupboard crying from about 7pm. I'm fed up with her because she now won't actually eat ger normal food.
I don't even buy dreamies now just the asda or tesco version because I'm a cheap skate abd we still get the same reaction.

Widh I'd never introduced them tbh.

compos ours is normally very picky too but this is ridiculous. she's like a cat possessed.

I really relate to 'like a cat possessed'. that is how one of ours is. DH and I both work from home and a thousand times a day I hear DH's plaintive 'I don't exist just to feed you Dreamies'.

Both of ours LOVE LOVE LOVE them but can cope with DH having them next to him on the coffee table or out on the kitchen counter where we keep stuff like that. They go mad for those meat sticks you can buy too. Aldi and Lidl both sell them, as well Pets at Home etc, but the Aldi/Lidl ones are cheaper.

As a footnote, having raised our cats on Felix for 6 years or more, we are surprised to find they will both eat Aldi and Lidl cat food pouches and biscuits. More savings, for anyone interested!

I've knocked all that on the head. One of my cats knows how to open the treat tin and scoffed a huge bag they'd been given for Christmas. I dont buy them treats, well occasionally a chewy stick, but not Dreamies. (Its grandma who gets themHmm) I think they are addictive.

I always thought the ad where the cat leaps through the walls to get them was silly. Until we gave ours some. There is something in them.

The thing with any treats is you only have to do it a couple of times and they become a complete pita expecting itHmm My two howl and yowl for ham or chicken scraps every blimmin morning whilst I'm trying to make three packed lunches. I give them a scrap of ham once in a while but they loudly demand it now.

Mind you, the Dreamies obsessed cat also loves Pombears. Tears through the packets. We have to put them into a very high cupboard now.

3 addicts in my house! Not just to dreamies but to all variations! Have had the occasional accident where the packet has been left exposed on a shelf in the kitchen and they've managed to get them down and chew through the packet, putting themselves into a dreamie induced coma. (Where they lie on the floor with all 4 paws in the air, looking very proud of themselves!)

They now get rationed and put in a drawer but they all try their hardest to get the drawer open!

Mine loves them too. We got him a treat ball to put them in and he pushes it around frantically, even hours after he's emptied it. It's good exercise for him but I think he's an addict!

Oh and FatCatLupin is also addicted to Pringles, she chews the faster than I can if she ever gets her paws on one. She also sneakily sticks her paw in the tub when she thinks you aren't looking!

two addicts in our house, one of which will not touch people food, wet cat food or any other treat, but show him the pack of dreamies and he goes mental.

Wasn't helped by the fact that DD found this so funny she was sneaking into the kitchen to give him extras

Have not tried Pringles on nochipscat. (She loves chips though!). She loves mini cheddars also. And will go wild for a baked potato. Maybe it is a carb/salt issue?

Our cat goes crazy for them, especially the cheese flavour and yes, like others I think there is something in them! However,if it is any consolation, after months of demanding them non stop she now only demands about twice or thrice a day. I am hoping that the taste for them is wearing off! Cheaper varieties are ignored.

Boycat loves them. If I go to the cupboard where they're kept, he waits by my feet, and if I have the packet in my hand, he'll follow it everywhere and I can get him to go anywhere in the house just by carrying them around, it's really funny.

He doesn't get them often, maybe once or twice a week, but he goes bananas over them. If you put them away, he yowls and you'd think he hadn't been fed in weeks!

She must be in a feline minority of one.

This is probably a good thing as she is a bit of a tubster and needs to loose a kilo according to the vet.

You could be on to something Nochips, FatCat does love McDonalds fries not that I feed myself or my cats McDonalds, nope

Dreamies are great though if I ever need to get them in from outside. Just open the door, shake the bag and they suddenly appear!

An old lady down the road loves one of my cats and brings me Dreamies to feed him. When he's AWOL I imagine he's at her house wrapped in a blanket, watching the telly with a bucket of Dreamies. They are like crack to some cats.

yes agree, it's her mad staring eyes when she's about to get one and she can't eat them fast enough.

I have a dreamie addict too. She had an advent calendar. She went off it by Xmas as she got bored of the flavour I think but attacked it randomly the other day lol.

Only need to pick up the bag and she is magically in front of you no matter where she is in the house. She won't eat any other treats. Very fussy normally. Must be something in them.

Now catnip is another story... she gobbles that up, collapses and rolls around tbe floor flaying her head and paws about in a state of utter ecstacy.
