dreamies, my cat is an addict

my cat had dreamies at Christmas in her stocking from Santa Paws. ( ok I know) anyway she's absolutly addicted now. I have to keep buying them and she's always trying to get her paw into the cupboard to steal some. she howls and miaows at us all constantly if we pass the cupboard.

are they a cat drug? should I make her go cold turkey?

advice please cat owners.

Dreamies give me respite from my kitties constant squabbling, they sit happily near each other and munch away, nothing has the same reaction as webbox sticks though!

tired mine are rescue cats too. love spoiling them really. caught myself holding a saucer of squirty cream for her because she was on her special wooly blanket on our bed and didn't want to move. ffs!!

I want to come back as a spoilt cat.

My mum bought my cat some dreamies about three christmasses ago and since then he won't eat anything unless it has dreamies on the top. It's cheaper to give in and buy the dreamies than to keep throwing food away. He sits by the cupboard yelling and will not give up no matter how long we ignore him.
I am totally convinced that they have an addictive ingredient. And yes, cheese are his favourite!

My old girl loves her dreamies. Not quite addicted, but has them every night just before bed. She starts her dreamies routine at about 10pm- hauls her arse off the bed, and comes and sits in front of the sofa, staring us out for half an hour. Then she starts trying to get attention by licking anything plastic, throwing herself on her back and showing us her tummy, and banging anything that makes a noise with her paw.

I amuse myself by repeatedly standing up, watching her crap herself with excitement and run to the kitchen, before she notices I'm still on the sofa. Better than most telly.

My girl cat has just started actually watching the ads for cat food on the TV when they come up.

It's really funny. She can be sitting there, washing and all of a sudden she will look at the ad- then turn and look at one of us at the end before returning to what she was doing. :)

My cat won't even look at them. He shuns all treats except the occasional slice of wafer thin ham.

My cat is obsessed with them too. We use them to bribe him to drop the mouse he has brought in/ get out of the neighbours car/ let us out of the front door without him.
My DP tells me the cat has a particular meow for them?!

goodasitgets you need to ship your cat my way, he looks like an awesome dude!

I have three ginger tabbies. I have been known to sprinkle the floor with treats and watch the carnage:o

Dreamies were about the only thing evil cat would eat at the end, that and the stuff we left out for her to 'steal'.

They are definitely crack for cats.

Had to wean our cat off them. We keep his food in the cupboard under the sink and if you were washing up, he would bite your legs till you gave him some! He went cold turkey. He has now started sleeping in the bathroom sink for revenge. What's that all about?

We bought some once and the cats dragged them out of the cupboard and massacred the bag. We found it empty with loads of ripped claw slashes across it abandoned on the kitchen floor. Definitely heroin for cats.

Heroin for cats Grin

I would really like to know what's in it though cos our cat is not moved by catnip, so it can't be that.

Dreamies = cat crack. Ditto those wildly expensive Whiskas things too. Always been the way

Mine go bonkers for them, as did my lovely old boy and if I mistakenly leave a packet out it will be torn to shread in order to get at the tasty, tasty treats.

Goodasitgets: What a great photo. Really made me smile! You should send it to the people who make Dreamies.

It must be acquired then. My two weren't fussed on treats as young cats. ~Then they got to about 5/6 and they went the opposite direction and got totally obsessed.

What a stunning puss! My cats like them but not to that degree. we just tried a new food however, called meowing heads, and they were both nuts for it. It's cheaper than their normal food, but I'm guessing it won't work out so economical.

reminds me of my old cat total food addict! i came home the one day and he had opened the cupboard taken the box of food out and sliced it open with his claws so i put it up where he couldnt reach (him being a fat cat) and his brother (slimmer cat) got the food down and he blasted SHARED it with him........apparently i was the only person who had child safety locks on her cupboards a year before i even had kids! (he died a couple of years ago i still miss them mad as it sounds i dont want another cat as it wont be the same :-()

Just spent a delightful 15 minutes reading this thread. Still none the wiser why Beltza has gone mad for the Dreamies the BF brought in. He's muzzling around my back looking for more, cat not BF instagram.com/p/rKvPt8AWvr/

My cat is so obsessed with Dreamies that when I want her to come in from the garden all I have to do is tap the window to get her attention and hold the Dreamies packet up so she can see it .....within 5 seconds she is purring round my feet !!

Seriously though, I am beginning to think they are addictive and possibly not good for her as she if she doesn't get them she sits and meows pitifully until I give in to her. When I put her food down she will eat very little, wait for Dreamies and then after her Dreamies will go back to her proper food. She was a stray who just moved in with us and so I probably do spoil her a bit as she had a bad start in life, but I don't want to be doing her any harm if, in fact, Dreamies are bad for her.
