Dye their hair?

Genuine question. Not something I have considered in great detail. Just interested.

Probably about 13-14

TeenAndTween · 15/01/2014 20:23

Depends what colour!
Most secondary schools have rules about unnatural hair colours.

thegreylady · 15/01/2014 20:23

16

I think I was in Yr 9 when I dyed mine, if that helps. I did it a couple of times, it looked rubbish and I have never done it again since. Got it all out of my system early!

thegreylady · 15/01/2014 20:24

But I'd allow streaks of blonde from about 13 I think

MrsKoala · 15/01/2014 20:24

13-14. For semi perm.

I was allowed really ineffectual sachets of wash out colour 'tints' at 13. By 14 i was allowed semi permanant and at 15 it was 'nice and sleazy' permanent all the way! :)

tinytalker · 15/01/2014 20:25

I just let my dd have a ombre colour done, she's nearly 14.

MrsKoala · 15/01/2014 20:26

I'd not allow bleach/streaks till 15/16.

jacks365 · 15/01/2014 20:26

One of mine had a colour at about 14 but it was a natural hair colour, nothing too obvious. I wouldn't have allowed anything unnatural or at all before that age.

SlightlyTerrified · 15/01/2014 20:27

13/14 but not bleach at that age and not permanent.

17leftfeet · 15/01/2014 20:28

Dd has just turned 13 and I allowed her a semi colour at Christmas

Some of the people in her year have been getting highlights since primary but won't admit it

Dd is the first with obviously dyed hair so I'm the super cool mum -school rule is no extreme hair colours, dd has gone from mousy to dark auburn and the school have had no issue with it

Stinklebell · 15/01/2014 20:28

I let my 12 year old use the stuff that washes straight out now. She liked putting odd colour streaks in her hair and the rule is it must be gone for school.

Nothing permanent or semi permanent for a couple of years at least

LittleBearPad · 15/01/2014 20:29

Possibly 14 or so. It would depend on what she wanted to do and probably involve school holidays rather than anything permanent.

LittleBearPad · 15/01/2014 20:30

Highlights since primary! The cost alone would make me think twice let saline seven year olds with highlights.

GideonKipper · 15/01/2014 20:31

Well I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I was heavy handed about this saying as I was slapping on semi permanents at 12. I also had a few Sun-In disasters before that orange hair anyone? .

My eldest dd is not yet 10; I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

facedontfit · 15/01/2014 20:39

Dyed it pink when I was 14. Would let my daughter at the same age or maybe a bit younger in the school holidays

LastingLight · 15/01/2014 20:41

DD (11) asked at our last visit to the hairdressers and I told her when she can afford it she is welcome to colour her hair. I would love to colour mine but don't have the money.

wobblyweebles · 15/01/2014 20:42

My oldest had purple highlights for her 12th birthday.

Whiskwarrior · 15/01/2014 20:44
  1. When she leaves secondary school. Not a day before. She's 12 now and she knows this and is quite happy with it.

But her hair has all these natural bloody highlights in it anyway AND goes lighter in the summer.

I'm not jealous at.all.

Helpyourself · 15/01/2014 20:45

12/13. It's not a biggy, it grows out.
It's expensive though!

MeepMeepVrooooom · 15/01/2014 20:46

When she is old enough to pay for it herself I guess. At that stage it's their money and can do what they want with it.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 15/01/2014 20:46

When she can pay for it herself.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/01/2014 20:46

DD had her first one at 13.

littlewhitebag · 15/01/2014 20:47

13/14 for the wash in, fade out ones. DD1 was always dying her hair at that age as she had (in her eyes) boring mid brown hair, and still does now at 21. DD2 (16) has lovely blonde hair and no intentions of dying it.
