To think bronzer is out of date

I've noticed all the young trendies are getting paler and paler and I'm beginning to wonder about my penchant for bronzer. It is dated isn't it?

OP posts:
Elderflowergranita · 21/12/2013 20:09

By golly, it better not be!

BunnyLebowski · 21/12/2013 20:11

Bronzer is a bit dated. Especially if it's the very shimmery kind.

Or if you look like this

A contour with a matt blusher is all the rage these days.

RevoltingPeasant · 21/12/2013 20:11

OP I teach at a university and my students mostly have flawless foundation, slimline liquid liner, and creamy bright lipstick, like hot or deep pink.

Yeah, not so much fake tan and bronzer!

Invest in a good blusher instead?

squoosh · 21/12/2013 20:15

I agree that pale skin is getting more and more fashionable which I think is great, it's been ages! But that doesn't mean bronzer is out of date, no point trying to be pale if your skin is naturally olive toned for example. It's all about how you apply it.

bad bronzer.

good bronzer.

BadgersNadgers · 21/12/2013 20:39

If I don't use bronzer I look like I've been dug up.

TheBrotherHoodOfSteel · 21/12/2013 20:44

I'm naturally pale and interesting and never wear bronzer so this is good news for me Wink

squoosh · 21/12/2013 20:48

A really light bronzer is good for contouring even very pale skin.

womma · 21/12/2013 21:13

That photo of Catherine ZJ is hilarious!

I'm pale and bronzer looks weird on me, especially in winter. I've got a matte, very light one that looks okay if I apply it with a very light touch.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 21/12/2013 21:14

I only ever use bronze if I have a sun tan.

Rhubarbgarden · 21/12/2013 21:20

My bronzer is definitely out of date. I've been using the same pot of Body Shop bronzing balls for about sixteen years.

womma · 21/12/2013 21:28

Oh well, by the time you've finished your pot rhubarb, it'll be back in with a vengeance!

LegoStillSavesMyLife · 21/12/2013 21:37

Oh please don't tell me it's out of date. I thought I got the hang of makeup and was scrubbing pretty well these days (BB cream, bronzer, mascara and eyeshadow, no lipstick just vaseline). Please don't tell me I've got to work something else out..

BunnyLebowski · 21/12/2013 21:37

A matte product is much better for contouring than bronzer.

Using bronzer means that the shimmer draws attention to the contoured areas rather than making them sink in iyswim thus making contouring a bit pointless.

I use MAC Harmony or Benefit Hoola on my pale skin.

LegoStillSavesMyLife · 21/12/2013 21:43

Wtf is contouring

squoosh · 21/12/2013 21:47

But not all bronzers have shimmer.

LynetteScavo · 21/12/2013 21:47

I look dead if I don't use bronzer.

It's definately in fashion around here....Not all bronzers are shimery.

BunnyLebowski · 21/12/2013 21:48

Grin lego

It's using a product a few shades darker than your foundation and a highlighter to shade and accentuate different parts of your face so make you look all slim and bone-structurey.

scottishmummy · 21/12/2013 21:49

Never used it,but ii don't use any tan products and I'm fair skinned

southeastastra · 21/12/2013 21:52

loved those body shop balls! i have a nice one from Nars, laguna, it's not too bronzey as it's brown Grin have it on now. it's just nice and i'm very pale!

LegoStillSavesMyLife · 21/12/2013 21:52

Ah I see. I just put it on where the very patient bobbi brown painted ladies in john lewis told me too.

Coumarin · 21/12/2013 21:54

I'm as white as snow (skin wise) and I'm sure bronzer would look ridiculous on me but on darker skin tones I'm sure it looks good. So long as it's not shimmery and swirled all over your face, it's fine. Think the trick is to apply very lightly and only in the places you'd be naturally sun kissed so cheekbones etc.

I use benefit dandelion powder as my own pale face equivalent if bronzer. With a brighter blush on top.

BunnyLebowski · 21/12/2013 21:55

Love Dandelion Coumarin.

scottishmummy · 21/12/2013 21:55

See I use dandelion as a blusher,and it's perfect

LegoStillSavesMyLife · 21/12/2013 22:00

Jesus, just watched that you tube clip, that's alittle out of my league.

ashamedoverthinker · 21/12/2013 22:05

Jesus Christ I clinked on Bunny's link - THAT looks more complicated than some curries I cook - I didnt get past the list....

This is why when I go out my make up never looks 'done up' even when I think I've gone for it.

I dont think Ive ever learnt how to put makeup on properly...
