do you shower daily? (be honest!)

obviously if you have a very newborn or you're ill then maybe a might miss a day, but generally speaking do you shower (or bath) every day? I do, but sometimes I might shower in the morning one day but then not shower next until the next evening, if I have a gym session or exercise class planned. I do wear deodorant and clean clothes daily but too many showers irritate my skin and are just a faff. grim, or not grim?

Good lord no, although DH does (thankfully, or he reeks). I shower every two days, and I couldn't go longer. In the summer a bit more often, but unless I've been doing something sweaty it's every two days. I actually missed this morning, but I'll have a bath tonight and I don't smell.

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 12:57

I guess it's just what you get used to. I'm so hooked on it I can't function without a shower. Even when backpacking and all that was available was a tub of cold water and a scoop, I still washed (including my hair!) every day. Even when camping, I will have a wash in the lake.

Jealous of you non-stinky types though. Anti-persperant doesn't work on me (and yet I persevere).

PeriodFeatures · 28/11/2013 12:58

JennyOnaPlate that is not true. A good daily wash is an acceptable alternative.

MummytoMog · 28/11/2013 12:58

Lolz at the stinky undercarriage comment. Undercarriage smells just dandy thankyouverymuch.

although as an aside, I do find it easier to remain fragrant without excess body hair. I remove everything below the neck, and I do notice a difference if for whatever reason I'm letting things grow out. Gets stinkier MUCH quicker.

PeriodFeatures · 28/11/2013 12:59

Lolz at Lolz...! Take care MummytoMog this is Mumsnet where we shower daily and never lol!

Purple2012 · 28/11/2013 13:00

Usually every day. Occasionally if feeling unwell/lazy and not working I won't butI feel smelly after a day at work so ddon't miss it very often.

CuChullain · 28/11/2013 13:03

Shower every day, twice if I have been to the gym.

SeaSickSal · 28/11/2013 13:07

I don't. However I took part in a university study a few years ago which showed I have a genetic mutation which means my sweat does not smell. Apparently about 1 in 50 people have it.

So I can go much longer with just a flannel and water.

SerenaJoy · 28/11/2013 13:08

Yup, every morning without fail. Wash my hair every 2-3 days. If it's not a hair-washing day I'm not in the shower for long - just enough to wash my nethers feel fresh. It's probably not necessary, but I feel grotty if I don't, and a top and tail at the sink doesn't seem quite the same.

Tee2072 · 28/11/2013 13:19

In reality I shower every day and wash my hair every day. I don't feel totally awake without a shower.

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 13:22

How does that work Seasick? I thought it wasn't the sweat itself that smelt but the bacteria (or rather their waste products) feasting on it.

MidniteScribbler · 28/11/2013 13:52

Every morning. Roll out of bed, walk bleary eyed to shower, wake up under shower. I feel feral if I don't shower straight away, and my hair needs to be washed every day. I will often shower at night as well as I sleep a lot better if I have a quick shower before bed. I have a spa now, so will often have a spa before bed then quick rinse off under the shower before bed. It helps me switch off before trying to sleep (the glass of wine I have in the spa probably helps too!).

StrattersCat · 28/11/2013 13:53

Morning and evening. I'd hate to go to bed dirty, and a shower in the morning wakes me up.

MrsBeeZed · 28/11/2013 13:55

Twice daily: when I wake up and before I go to bed.

MooncupGoddess · 28/11/2013 14:02

Almost every day, probably 6 times a week. I found out when having my bathroom done recently though that once every 2-3 days was fine... only after that did I start to feel grubby and horrible.

MrsRogerSterling · 28/11/2013 14:09

Every day, twice a day. Morning shower is a quick wash and go, bedtime shower I wash my hair and moisturise myself afterwards etc. would hate to go to bed without showering first. I know some people think that is odd but I suppose it's just what you are used to.

MummytoMog · 28/11/2013 14:16

I think my skin would fall off if I showered twice a day! I don't moisturise much, because it seems to end in a hideous self fulfilling prophecy where I have to moisturise every day or I flake, but I do notice my skin getting dryer and dryer the more I wash.

I might be more inclined to shower every day in the morning if my house were warmer and I didn't have a body clock that naturally inclines me to stay up until two in the morning and wake up at nine am. It's even worse when the kiddywinkles crawl into bed at eight am and snuggle up. Who wants to tear themselves away from a warm bed and snuggly toddlers to get into a freezing bathroom, strip down and get under a shower of variable temperature? Pah.

FruitbatAuntie · 28/11/2013 14:27

I used to, and washed my hair very single day without fail as it got really greasy very quickly too. Even when I had newborn DS1 (easy baby in retrospect).

After having DS2 - not a chance when he was v. tiny of having time every day to shower, wash and dry hair! Well, I could - but not without heartrending screaming like someone was being murdered for the whole time I was in there.

Now I don't even have a shower so have a bath and wash hair every other day, and my hair has adjusted fine so it doesn't get so greasy now. I do have a flannel wash every day I don't shower though.

Kids get bathed every other day too unless filthy.

SugarHut · 28/11/2013 14:30

Bath when I wake up....bath after every gym session (live 2 mins from gym) and bath before I get into bed if bf is here, but not if it's just me.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 28/11/2013 14:33

I shower every morning and most evenings before bed.

I shower afterwards if I have a bath, baths are nice to relax in, but I don't feel 'clean' after one.

A 'wash' is not 'just as good', it's really not.

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 14:34

It does feel really nice when you have a shower just before bed, but as I shower at about 6pm after work that might be overkill!

Mrsmindcontrol · 28/11/2013 14:39

Genuine question: for those of you who don't shower or bathe every day, do you have sex on your 'unwashed' days? If so, bleeeuurrrggghh. I'm sorry but, just bleeeuuuurrrggghhh.

Call me prissy if you like but the thought of unclean genitals meeting eachother is just vile.

AscoyneDAscoyne · 28/11/2013 14:41

I shower everyday without fail and wash my hair about 3 times a week as it's dry it doesn't need more. I wouldn't leave the house in the morning without a shower.

SeaSickSal · 28/11/2013 14:57

I don't know how to link on my phone but if you google 'people who's sweat doesn't smell' it brings up stuff about the study.

It's a gene that is the norm in North East Asia. People there don't use deodorant because they don't smell.

In Europeans it is a mutation but an increasingly common one.

According to the research it is the sweat that produces the smell, not bacteria.

FriendlyElephant · 28/11/2013 15:11

These threads always make me feel really smelly. I shower every day, because if I don't, I STINK. I sometimes have to have a bit of a wash in between as well.
