AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

Plenty, I've ordered batteries from FT. Arrived ok and I've not had any problems with them. It was just two vv 1300 ego c twists but I'm sure they cost less than a tenner each and I've not noticed anything different about them from my smok one which cost twice the price. I've been happy with them.

DizzyZebra · 22/01/2014 01:08

Firstly with vaping i seem to have become wheezy on the chest, never had that with cigs, is that normal?

Every so often since i quit the cigs i get a load of mucousy stuff come up which i have read is to do with stopping the fags, i get wheezy when walking when this happens. I dont think its the ecigs. However, My mum also gets this and she has never smoked so it could be complete coincidence.

Plenty My innokin has a screen and two buttons like that but the colour of the fire button shows how much its charged.

How long does it last? Only i'm wondering if it lasts around the ammount of time you'd expect it to, it could be a fault with the display, not the actual battery??

BitterOldOtter · 22/01/2014 09:07

Plenty - yes, that's the one. Though I bought a 'turquoise giraffe' battery, because that's the way I roll ;) Figured it was good to have a spare, though the first one has lasted 5 days on one charge so far.

I am currently using vanilla flavour and loving it!

QueenStromba · 22/01/2014 17:08

Yeah, I got an itaste MVP 2 from FT. It seems genuine although it's fussy about which clearos it works with - it's the first battery to stop recognising a clearo with an atomiser that's on the way out. Took me a while to figure this out because I have a million clearos on the go but when an atomiser only has a few hours worth of constant use left in it then it stops working with the itaste but will work with my other batteries.

Insanityismymiddlename · 22/01/2014 17:12

Plenty my DP doesn't like you now lol as I have now discovered fasttech.

The protank is awesome vapes lovely and it is warmer than the Evod plus it's completely rebuildable as well as the drip tip is removable and easier to clean.

Ordered loads of Joose Juice liquids but I'm not loving any of them very synthetic tasting and chemically, can anyone recommend a brand or company that doesn't break the bank but tastes amazing?

magimedi · 22/01/2014 17:29

Insanity If you have an ecig shop near to you pop in & see them. Most of them will let you try a few flavours.

I vape The Sherlock from:

www.ecigwizard.com/e-liquid/wizmix/

I know their Dark Horse is also v popular. They are very reliable & quick to send.

My local ecig shop now does their own mixes & as they have been so lovely & helpful to me, I'll give them a plug as well (I have no connection):

thevapourroomonline.co.uk/

I think it is a matter of trial, however.

But, I am in a minority here in that I only really like tobacco flavour juices and I don't mix & experiment.

If you want cheap and nice then a good bet would be mixing your own liquids using FLavour Art flavourings. I have loads of their flavours and none of them taste even slightly synthetic.

Doinmummy · 22/01/2014 19:18

Quick word if warning. My friend ordered some stuff from Joose Juice and her account was debited with £195. She contacted them and the chap said he'd been a victim if some sort if computer scam.

I ordered some strawberry cheesecake juice from them and it's awful. Very soapy taste. What is steeping and will thus help the flavour ?

Doinmummy · 22/01/2014 19:19

Excuse typos - stupid auto correct

Allergictoironing · 22/01/2014 20:24

Doinmummy - The various liquids need to "steep" i.e. be left to mature, for a few days (usually about a week) before they are at their best. Many suppliers use ready mixed brands like Hangsen which of course have been happily steeping for often weeks, whereas Joose Juice mix their flavours to order so they need to left for a few days to sort of mature.

Doinmummy · 22/01/2014 20:37

Oh ok thanks . I've had the juice for over a week and it still tastes odd. Perhaps i need a different flavour. Trouble is I've got 2 big bottles of the stuff !

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/01/2014 21:16

woah thanks for the warning doinmummy. I'm off to check my bank account ...

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/01/2014 21:27

phew, no dodgy payments Smile I needed to check anyway because I have a new contactless debit card and was feeling a bit paranoid about being double charged for bus fares. Will your friend get her money back?

I've seen a few people say that strawberry cheesecake is a bit yuck.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/01/2014 21:36

Maggie, thanks I'll put a couple of batteries on my next ft order.

Dizzy, it's different from an innokin. It has finally reached full charge! It took a total of 24 hours (over 3 sessions as I wasn't leaving it plugged in overnight). It's only 1200mah. Clearly that's not right. I don't know if it's worth the bother of sending it back for a replacement again. I've asked them if they've had many of this model returned but they haven't got back to me Hmm

Weelady77 · 22/01/2014 21:43

I've just been reading this thread regarding liquid maturing

DH has only been topping his up every couple of days
I was everyday

But we've just bought new batch of stuff it's quite watery and clear and were topping up all the time now does it have to mature because the bottles I've got in the cupboard have now went orangey colour??

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/01/2014 21:45

Insanity Grin I treat FT a bit like gambling - will it arrive? will it be shit? Odds are pretty good so far. It's easy to over order though.

Do you think evods are good for the price?

Doinmummy · 22/01/2014 21:48

The guy at Joose Juice was very good and promised to refund the money. He did it immediately.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/01/2014 21:50

weelady what liquid did you buy and where from? Is the new stuff lower nicotine?

Liquids differ in colour from completely clear to very dark. Some, but not all, get darker with age.

PG based liquids are thinner than VG but that shouldn't affect how fast you get through it.

Weelady77 · 22/01/2014 21:57

Plenty it's from a shop called emporium vapour no all the same strengths 2.4 but all different flavours

Sallystyle · 22/01/2014 22:14

Haven't read all of this but wanted to ask a few quick questions.

I have health anxiety so I am a bit anxious right now.

I quit smoking almost two years ago and have been vaping all that time now. I know vaping is nothing like smoking but does it every worry you that while we are doing better by not smoking we still might be playing with our health by vaping? Mouth cancer etc might still be increased by inhaling the ingredients?

Also, do you all plan to quit the e-cig? any other long term capers around like me?

I have always defended e-cigs with a passion but just having an anxious moment.

Sallystyle · 22/01/2014 22:15

ever*
vapers not capers*

QueenStromba · 22/01/2014 23:21

SamU2 - I don't worry in the slightest about vaping. It's not the nicotine that gives you cancer, it's the million other things in cigarettes. The flavourings etc are no worse than the flavourings in foods.

Regarding the colour changing - I mix my own and quite often a clear or nearly clear flavouring when mixed with the clear nicotine, VG and PG will develop a strong colour over the course of a week or two. My cookie flavour which is a very pale yellow colour turns into an auburn sort of colour over the course of a week or two. My fruits of the forest, which is clear, turns into a dark yellow colour. It's definitely the mixing that does it because all of the components could be sitting there for weeks before mixing and not change colour.

The steeping effect is probably linked to the same thing. I find that the flavour gets better as the colour develops. There is also an element of the flavouring needing to develop. I bought Flavour Art lychee from Liberty Flights which was very nice straight away when mixed but when I ordered straight from Flavour Art it wasn't very nice for a few weeks (FA make your flavours to order so when you buy direct it's days old but if you buy indirectly it's probably weeks or months old). It's definitely worth waiting a few weeks and trying again if you don't like a flavour. I had a pineapple flavour that tasted awful for a good month or so and then was quite nice.

Insanityismymiddlename · 23/01/2014 10:06

Plenty
Depends on what you pay my first Evod I paid £30 from a vape shop and I think that was stupidly expensive now I know better.

I brought my second Evod battery and clearomizer separately and it cost me half that for a genuine Kangertech Evod and that was definitely worth the price.

However my Mini Protank 2 and Battery cost me around £20 in all and that's great value as it's completely rebuildable too.

Allergictoironing · 23/01/2014 11:03

I was talking to a woman in my local town recently, she had seen me vaping and was asking me about it but said wasn't it really expensive to get set up. Turns out one of the companies who used to only do the cig-a-like types have recently started to do proper battery & tank systems, and they were flogging a starter kit at a stall in the shopping centre for £50 - basic battery, 1 tank, charger & small juice!

I told her how much of a rip off that was, & sent her away with the phone number of my friend suppliers (she was very unconfident of using the internet).

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/01/2014 19:31

Insanity, thanks, I'll stick one on my next fasttech order Smile

Allergic that is a shocking rip off! It's things like that that make me want to open a shop - not to rip people off, just to provide decent kit at a decent price. I'll never do it though Grin

Samu2 well done! Flowers I'm not worried about vaping at all. If there were any serious health risks they would have already shown up with NRT such as gum and inhalators - it's the same pharmaceutical nicotine that is used. There's a good round up of ecig research here. I'm not planning on giving up vaping any time soon, or cutting down on nicotine. I might at some point, simply because an addiction is a bit tiresome, however pleasant and harmless it is.

Apollo are going to replace my battery again Grin I'm still not convinced there isn't a design fault with this particular model but I can't fault them on customer service, I don't know anywhere else that does this lifetime guarantee thing.

They have sent me a referral code if anyone wants 15% off: apolloecigseu.refr.cc/H62VHR7
