AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

BTW Queen, re those clearos. I must have remembered wrong. There is no way that these come apart. I have asked my brother to send me a link.

QueenStromba · 16/01/2014 18:44

You've just proved my point entirely Cantabile. This is what I bought which I've worked out to be 6 years worth at my current rate of consumption. I can highly recommend their service - I ordered the Saturday before Christmas and missed the courier trying to deliver on Christmas Eve (which was the Tuesday). It might be worth people on this thread clubbing together and buying a load - if you buy 10 litres it's half the price again.

You can buy 200ml of VG in Boots for about £1.50 so you don't need to stock up on that. PG is used for lots of things and is available on ebay so you don't need to stock up on that either.

Allergictoironing · 16/01/2014 19:04

Don't suppose you could get back to that nice MEP & ask if they know what sort of date the liquids part of this is due to kick in?

Cantabile · 16/01/2014 19:13

Queen, I remember you ordering it! I had a look then, and thought hmmmm, maybe I'll do that.... Grin

I've just had a look on YouTube and watched quite a lot of people taking CE4s apart and cleaning, recoiling them etc, so now I know. Thanks for telling me you can, and thanks for ignoring me insisting that I have the only CE4 in the world that you can't!

Allergic, not sure of the date. It's going through Brussels nowish and I think they expect to have done with it before end Feb. Don't know about member states adopting the measures. Plenty was posting lots of links to various blogs about it on this and the previous thread. I am about to take some clearos apart, and then I have a few other things I have to do, but may get a chance to look tonight, unless you manage to find them? Please repost them if you do find them, or if you find anything more up to date.

Cantabile · 16/01/2014 19:25

I was thinking of getting the 5.0%, which they have for 11 quid for 105ml. I can afford that, and thought if I got that strength it would last a lot longer so I could get a smaller volume.

I have to do some nasty sums now to work out what quantities so I don't OD on nicotine the first time I try it. Need it to be pretty straight in my head before I order.

Cantabile · 16/01/2014 19:28

Can I ask why you chose PG base particularly?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 16/01/2014 21:45

There's a good breakdown of what the proposed legislation means here although I think he miosses a couple of things.

cantabile, some ce4's are not designed to be taken apart but some people have managed it anyway. I cracked the tanks when I tried. good luck!

more to write but no time until weekend.

Cantabile · 17/01/2014 00:06

I have taken the CE 4 apart, cleaned it, and put it back together. I don't think I've done it any favours though. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it tastes OK and sometimes it doesn't. At £7 for 5, it doesn't seem worth it somehow, but it was fun to do and now I know and won't have to do it ever again Grin. I'll get rebuildables inmfuture.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 17/01/2014 10:17

can anyone tell me what sort of PG/VG mix is standard when buying pre mixed in shops?

When I went to my local shop I bought a bottle of Vimto flavour. They didnt ask what mix I wanted, and I didnt know anything about that then. Have since bought some other flavours online and noticed that they seem a lot thinner as a liquid - they are 50/50 PG/Vg mix. I preferred the shop ones, but dont know what mix it was!

QueenStromba · 17/01/2014 10:36

If the 50:50 is thinner then you probably got a higher percentage of VG in the shop. How do the liquids compare in terms of throat hit and vapour production? You get more throat hit from high PG and more vapour from high VG.

I mostly bought the PG out of habit but I'd recommend it because it's thinner and so easier to work with than VG.

Insanityismymiddlename · 17/01/2014 16:35

Well I am on Day 18 and not smoked 356 cigs and saved over £75, currently vaping peach flavour 18mg but moving down to a 12mg pina colada slowly.

My DP has done the same and my STBXH is now only smoking 2 cigs a day.

I did have one bad night when I had a few to drink and ended up smoking 2 cigs but the smell on my hands the following day made me feel ill.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/01/2014 19:35

Yay, well done Insanity, DP and STBXH Flowers

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/01/2014 19:43

Allergic - it's only some flavours that are a problem in polycarbonate tanks, generally spicy or citrusy flavours. That just looks like a blanket disclaimer on the joose juice site, I've used loads of their liquids without any problems. The only one I've had that has damaged a tank so far is cinnamon apple (not from joose juice, can't remember where - sent by a kind mner), I'm not sure I entirely trust gingerbread and I use a glass tank for that ... some people on this thread have also tried gingerbread though - has anybody had any problems with it in a plastic tank?

Allergictoironing · 17/01/2014 19:49

Thanks Plenty. It's actually pineapple that I'm addicted to, and I suppose that would come under citrus, but not had any problems with the Hangsen pineapple to date (about 3-4 weeks, same tank).

I'd quite like to get a glass tank, just not sure where does them? Had a bit of a poke around on the internet but all seem to be polycarbonate. Though that could be because I'm still a bit vague about exactly which tanks fit on which batteries!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/01/2014 20:41

If the hangsen one is ok it's probably worth risking the joose juice version in a cheap clearo.

I got one of these - it's a bit more expensive but you can just replace the coil, or recoil it yourself which is not as scary as you'd think. It's also a really lovely vape Smile

Pretty much everything will fit on pretty much every battery. If it says 510 or eGo it will fit a standard ego battery.

Allergictoironing · 17/01/2014 20:49

Nice Smile. I'll have a poke around & look for the larger size one as soon as I have a bit more money at the end of the month - I assume they do a larger version, as that one says "mini". Thanks

Cantabile · 17/01/2014 22:21

I use joose juice gingerbread in polycarb tanks. Mind you, I've not had the tanks long, but no problems so far.

Cantabile · 17/01/2014 23:29

I'm down to 10 a day on a bad day! I always smoke more in winter as I get so cold I huddle by the fire and chainsmoke, especially in the mornings. 10 sounds a lot I know but it's less than a quarter of my pre-vaping intake, more like a fifth. I am chuffed as f*@k! This is mad. I'm a different person. And I haven't even tried. SmileSmileSmileSmile

Thank you again every one of you Thanks

Allergictoironing · 18/01/2014 08:03

Yay grats Cantabile. I know some people seem to give up instantly but others never manage at all as a lot of the addiction is the habit rather than the nicotine - which is why e-fags are such a great thing Grin. Are you trying the silly little mind tricks I had to play on myself, like keeping the cigs in a different room and in a drawer so they aren't "to hand" when you want one?

I'm still on 2 on a typical day having been there for a few weeks now (down from about 30), but had a bad day yesterday & had an extra one.

I knew to expect a lot of coughing etc as I gave up smoking as the body is getting rid of all the crap that's been building up over the last 37 years, people I've known who have given up in other ways have had this. But I have a cold that's gone to my throat & upper chest & its a pretty rough one, and healthy or not a real cig will actually calm & numb my throat (due to all the other crap in them) - plus it takes away some of the taste of catarrh (sorry if TMI). So I allowed myself ONE extra cig yesterday evening, and will permit myself a max of 2 extras a day over the weekend if this cold persists this badly.

I too am very grateful for all the support and advice on here, and raise a glass to us all Wine.

Gorja · 19/01/2014 10:48

I have had my evape ecig since October. I have now cut all cigs out and I'm just vaping.

My battery seems too be getting very hot now where it joins with the clearomiser. This has only started happening recently. Does anybody know what may be wrong and how I can fix it. Or do I need new batteries?

If so which battery would be best?

Thanks

magimedi · 19/01/2014 10:59

My battery gets warm if I use it constantly for some time.

If you only have one battery it may well be reaching the end of its life.

Many congratulations on giving up & happy vaping.

OP posts:
Gorja · 19/01/2014 11:20

Thanks, I think my battery could be on the way out.

What batteries are recommended. I use it pretty much all day so it needs to last well!

magimedi · 19/01/2014 11:42

I would have two batteries - you'd be stuffed if one failed & you were dying for a puff!

I use the Ego 1100 - see here - and it lasts me all day & I am a heavy vaper.

www.ecigwizard.com/accessories/bc/batteries/ego-style-xl-battery-1100mah.html

The other thing is to find a local shop & go & have a chat with them - you will get loads of advice & usually get to try out new flavours.

You may find a starter kit cheaper than a battery as you often get 2 batteries in them.

Am sure the uber expert Plenty will be along soon to ad her thoughts - she really is the Queen of ecigs!

Blush

I think you might be confusing expertise with obsession there, magi Grin

Gorja, well done Flowers I can't add much to what magi said, get a couple of 1100 mah ego batteries. The only other thing I'm wondering is if you are using a different clearomiser? If it's a lower resistance (ohms) it will get hotter.

Allergic - yes there are larger protanks on that site. There seems to be a new version every week!

magimedi · 19/01/2014 17:07

Oh no I am not!! Not only do you know a lot, you put it over very clearly.

Are you a teacher in RL?
