AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

I'm loving my vale stick but occasionally I seem to get the juice on my lips from the mouth piece . Does anyone else get this? Am I doing something wrong?

Doinmummy · 08/01/2014 18:09

Vale ?? Vape

DizzyZebra · 08/01/2014 18:15

Doin is it a ce4 or similar? I end up with liquid in my mouth from those types because i leave it laid flat or chuck it in my bag so its tilted upside down and the liquid gets in the tip.

Doinmummy · 08/01/2014 18:21

I've posted a pic of it on my profile. It happens at various times even when I've been holding it upright

McNo · 08/01/2014 18:24

Thank you for the tips I will be back later to let u know how it goes

McNo · 08/01/2014 19:16

Ooh I like it Grin

How many vapes would be equivalent of one cig?

The cherry pie liquid is lovely, thank you Maggie Grin

magimedi · 08/01/2014 19:48

Dooin Can't really see from the pic but you may well be overfilling it.

I had all sorts of probs like that when I started but now seem to have sorted them - just try filling it less.

Leaving it other then 'right way up' does seem to lead to some leakage - I put mine right way up (ie mouthpiece up) in the mobile phone pocket of my bag & it's OK.

If you should ever fly with one, be aware that the pressure change will make them leak & hold it upright & only have it filled half full - ready for your sneaky plane vape.

And (cough) I am 'told' that they do not set off the smoke detectors in areoplane loos - at least not in Easy Jet - I am 'told'!! Wink

Also if you hold the vapour in your mouth for about 10-20 seconds then there is no vapour when you exhale.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 08/01/2014 20:33

Doin, take the drip tip off and give it a good clean with a cotton bud. Also mop it up a bit around the hole down the middle.

If it's gurgling put a tissue under it and blow hard through it.

I haven't raved about the gs-h2 for a while (Grin), but one of the other things I love about it is it's very happy upside down. In fact, if you're likely to be somewhere with pressure changes you can just carry it upside down and it equalises itself. I have tested this on the tube having had one leak quite badly when carried the right way up.

Doinmummy · 08/01/2014 20:54

Thanks all , I'll try your suggestions.

Loriens · 08/01/2014 21:13

I'm getting used to 'vaping' now. Currently, day 4 and between 80 and 120 cigs not smoked Grin

I have a question that I hope you can help me with. I am going on a plane soon and wondered what you do with the e-cig and liquid. Does the liquid go in hand luggage or hold luggage etc?

QueenStromba · 08/01/2014 21:34

I've not flown with it but I see no reason why you can't have it in your hand luggage as long as you treat it the same way you would toiletries etc.

magimedi · 08/01/2014 22:28

I've flown a couple of times - batteries & clearomisers in hand luggage, bottles of liquid in the little bags they give you for liquid.

No way am I putting any of my vape eqipment in hold baggage - it would wreck my hols if it were lost.

Have done the above twice through Gatwick & back through Turkey & Spain with no problems whatsoever.

Magi I've read on some vaping forums that some people advise to peel the skull and crossbones warning sign of the liquid bottles, have you ever done this?

magimedi · 09/01/2014 09:40

No - never. I don't think mine have a skull & X on them, however

Oh, yes they do!!

Quite honestly, the amount of people I saw vaping airside at Gatwick, I am certain that the security people are 100% aware of e cigs & vaping & all it entails!

Clearomisers confuse me. For instance, I have one which came as part of the kit which was posted upthread a bit, from paradise vape. The wicks poke out near the top but they're very very short, so it seems to me that if it's not full then there's no liquid getting to the coil. It bubbles a bit and crackles a bit, but it does kind of work.

I have a couple of other clearos, which have come with other things, which have long wicks which reach down to the bottom. That makes sense to me. However, I can't get those ones working at all!

I also have a couple of shisha pen tops (that's what they look like anyway). One leaked horribly and I've chucked it. The other is OK but bubbles and crackles and mostly doesn't work either.

DizzyZebra · 09/01/2014 17:32

Cantabile - No idea why theyre not working for you. I have an iclear 16 with the top coil, long wicks, and an iclear 30b which has shirt little wicks but the coil sits at the bottom, so juice is sat on top soaking down into it iyswim?

Loving joose juices orange creme. Ordering a 30 ml bottle, is it still bogof??

QueenStromba · 09/01/2014 17:48

The bubbling is caused by liquid getting into the air tube in the middle. You might be over filling them or pouring liquid into the middle bit when you're filling - to avoid this you should dribble the liquid down the side when filling.

To fix it you'll have to empty out the liquid you have in it and unscrew the bottom - you should be able to take the plastic bit off and be left with the metal air tube and the atomiser (the bit with the string). You can normally then unscrew the atomiser from the air tube. If you can do that then hold some tissue at the bottom and blow through the air tube to clear out the liquid. Then you can just put it all back together.

QueenStromba · 09/01/2014 17:51

Actually, try this before you bother to take the whole thing apart. Just take it off the battery and give it a few good flicks with the bit that screws into the battery away from you. Turn your head away while you are doing this because e liquid in your eyes burns way more than chili

Revenger · 09/01/2014 18:16

My e-cig arrived this morning Smile. Although there are no instructions. How long should I charge it for before using do you think?

McNo · 09/01/2014 18:26

I charged mine for 3 hours. The indicator in the charger should change to green once fully charged

Cantabile · 09/01/2014 18:48

TBH, Revenger, I have been known to just start using a battery as soon as it arrives if there's any charge in it Blush - probably very bad for them, no idea, but they always seem to go for as long as I expect them to more or less.

Queen, thanks. I filled the short-wicked one right up to 1.6 which is the top line. Once it got down to 1.2 it stopped working so I filled it up again. The bottom line on it is at 0.4 so I don't know why it stopped working at 1.2.

I have flicked it a few times but nothing's come out and it still bubbles and crackles. Maybe it's just cheap?

I'll empty it and try and clean it up again when I've vaped it down to 1.2 again!

This is why I like the Ego C VV! If there's a tiny bit of juice in the tank (mouthpiece) and the battery's got some charge then it'll work. If it doesn't it needs a new atomiser so I just unscrew the bottom bit of the top cone and put a new atty in. Done! OK, the tank only holds 0.8ml or something, but even now I only use about 2 tanksful a day.

Doinmummy · 09/01/2014 18:53

Mine doesn't bubble but does crackle. Is this the same thing?

QueenStromba · 09/01/2014 19:37

The crackling noise is normal.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/01/2014 20:00

I think batteries usually arrive almost fully charged.

Cantabile, you could try giving it a good blow through with a tissue underneath.

Crackling is good, it's the liquid vapourising off the coil - unless it's so fierce it's squirting liquid into your mouth.

I've decided I don't really like fruit flavours. I've tried a good range now from several different manufacturers, including one rather posh one, and they all just taste like weak sugar-free squash to me.

My elderly cat seems to be hooked on vaping. For the last few nights, as soon as I've sat down on the sofa and started vaping she's come and sat on me with her face an inch from mine, perfectly happy with her head in a big cloud Grin

Dizzy, Joose Juice BOGOF on 30ml seems to be a permanent offer.
