AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

Revenger I've just bought some really nice eliquid from here.
They do kits too, but I can only vouch for the eliquid so far, it's great!!
I see they do lots of different flavours as well as different strengths, so would recommend.

I think they have been linked to further back on this thread too.

littlemisssarcastic · 07/01/2014 23:27

They do 18mg liquids and for £5.50 plus P&P for 30ml, that's a good price compared to what I have seen, and they deliver 1st class. Smile

littlemisssarcastic · 07/01/2014 23:28

Should have said this is Hangsen Eliquid, which I believe is already steeped.

Revenger · 07/01/2014 23:31

Thanks for the links and recommendations.

It's all so confusing Confused. I don't understand the terminology at all. Steeping, PG, VG, batteries, clearomisers (?).

Is there an idiots guide to these things?

littlemisssarcastic · 07/01/2014 23:51

Not sure if there's an idiots guide to vaping and ecigs but there should be if there isn't.

It's probably a lot more complicated than this, but:

Steeping just means to let your e liquid breathe in a dark place for a few days or weeks to bring the full flavours out/enhance the flavours.
PG/VG A small guide here
Batteries come in different forms. I've got an EGO CE4 which lasts me all day, most of them are rechargeable and charge up via USB or plug socket. The battery operates the ecig.
Clearomisers or cartomisers are the part you screw onto your battery, they are the part you fill with the eliquid.

Have you seen any youtube clips such as one. This will help imo.

DizzyZebra · 08/01/2014 01:45

Cantabile i thought i saw a caramel blend in the tobacco flavours x

MaggieMcGill · 08/01/2014 08:15

Cantabile the caramel was from JJ but it's one of their tobacco flavours.

McNo the ones I've sent you were bought just before Xmas so should be good to go. That's if you like them of course Smile

Weelady77 · 08/01/2014 08:24

Do I need to wash the top part out??

Also I'm paying £5 for 10ml which seems expensive to what some of you guys are paying, where's best to order from that when it arrives I'm good to go??

Allergictoironing · 08/01/2014 09:26

Yes you'll need to wash the top part (clearomiser) out if you change flavours, otherwise you get a bit of the old flavour mixed in. I'll let someone else detail the process, as I'm a bit pants at it & currently have my apple with a bit of a melon-y taste mixed in!

Regarding "good to go", order something that's a recognised brand that you can get from more than 1 supplier e.g. Hangsen or Dekang - these are brands that are imported ready made rather than made up to order, so will have been steeping during the import time. You may be slightly more restricted in your options for strength, flavours, PG/VG mix & size of bottle, but there's still an awful lot of variety out there.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 08/01/2014 10:54

Can I join.

Bought my vapor pen yesterday

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 08/01/2014 11:27

Queen those amazon kits look very good for the price. I might get a couple to lend to curious friends.

Revenger, for £30 I would go for one of these or maybe this plus a larger battery although you can probably find cheaper batteries on Amazon.

For liquid that is ready to go I get Hangsen from Premier ecigs.

Welcome FortyDoors, good luck! What did you get?

McNo · 08/01/2014 12:39

Fab Maggie thank you. I'm at work but my partner said there are a few parcels arrived so hoping it's my e cig and liquids so I can get started. Day 1 tomorrow hopefully Shock

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 08/01/2014 12:50

Atlas pen with rainbow liquid which is 8mg of nicotine

Revenger · 08/01/2014 13:38

I've just bought 5 taster flavours from Joose Juice.

I'm still a bit confused about which e-cig to get. I've read some online reviews and websites and it seems quite a few recommend the EGO CE4. I've also looked at the kits linked to.

I suppose I'm torn between buying something cheap to get me started or spending a bit more for something that will last. Part of the problem is that as I've not used them beyond a couple of puffs on my colleague's ecig, I've no idea what the features mean or even if they're important. I guess I should choose something a bit cheaper to start with in that case?

Is it really bad that I want it to look pretty? There are some lovely coloured ones on the market but no idea if they're any good Grin.

magimedi · 08/01/2014 13:41

Revenger if you have a shop near you - go there for a start. You may will pay a little bit more than you would on line but you will get so much help & advice to get you going.

OP posts:
magimedi · 08/01/2014 13:44

PS - ego CE4 is a good one to start with.

OP posts:
Revenger · 08/01/2014 14:13

I've just googled and found that vape-uk are near me but they are not answering the phone. I've sent an enquiry to ask if they have a bricks and mortar shop or if all their sales are on line. Hopefully I'll be able to go in and test some products or at least get some advice.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 08/01/2014 14:15

Yes it's really confusing. Don't do what I did and delay starting for 18 months because it was all too confusing. Any of the kits people have linked to will be absolutely fine and if you've seen a pretty one you like I'm sure that will be fine too Smile You don't need to find the perfect setup right now, just something that's good enough to get you off the fags.

General tips for choosing:

  • you will need two of everything - two batteries and two sucky things (or one sucky thing with replacement coils)
  • the higher the mah rating on the batteries, the longer it will last before it needs charging
  • there are a lot of different types of atomisers (sucky things) and what people like or don't like about them is often very subjective. It makes sense to try a few different types to see what works for you. They only last a few weeks in any case and you'll probably want a few for different flavours.

Forty - 8mg is very low unless you were only smoking a very few fags. See how you go but don't worry if you find you need to buy some higher nic.

Revenger · 08/01/2014 14:22

Thank you Plenty.

I'm really excited about starting (and hungry reading all the flavours). I really enjoy smoking and I think that's why I've been unsuccessful just using nrt in the past.

Some of the reviews on the cheaper amazon ones say that the battery was actually smaller than size stated and have had other bad reviews. Someone linked to a double kit up thread which looks good and has positive reviews.

I might get a cheapy to start with and hold off with something more expensive until my local shop has got back to me.

Revenger · 08/01/2014 14:34

I've just bought this from eBay:

1100mAh E EGO CIG KIT ELECTRONIC SHISHA CE4 CE5 RECHARGEABLE VAPER 1 FREE REFILL

For £9.95 with free next day delivery and one 18mg 10ml taster which should be with me tomorrow Grin. Hopefully this should get me going until I get used to it and know what I'm doing.

I'm not going to pressure myself to totally stop smoking, I'm just going to see how it goes (better mind set for me I think). I read on a vaping forum from someone who successfully quit using ecigs, 'don't think of it as quitting, think of it as taking up vaping' and I think that mantra will help me.

I'll let you know how I get on Smile.

magimedi · 08/01/2014 15:58

I think you are right not to feel pressure. I mixed vaping & cigs for about two weeks & then just went to 100% vaping. 15 months on & I am a very happy vaper!

OP posts:
Allergictoironing · 08/01/2014 16:12

I still haven't managed to get rid of those last 2 pesky cigs I smoke every day, but I keep reminding myself how much healthier & cheaper than my previous 30 a day addiction was. Some can give up straight away, others find it harder especially if deep down inside you didn't really want to give up even though you know you should.

The quote I like is "don't count how many cigs you HAVE smoked, count those that you haven't".

I also find totting up how much money I've saved in just 4-5 weeks a marvellous incentive - even with 2 batteries (including a blingy one Grin), LOADS of clearomisers (I have a very bad habit of dropping them so they crack), and a selection of fluids that should last me at least another month or more, I've spent not much over 10 day's worth of "real" cigs.

McNo · 08/01/2014 17:45

That's my ecig kit, liquids from joosejuice and Maggie hereSmile

The ecig is charging so once I have the wee one in bed I will give it a go.

magimedi · 08/01/2014 17:52

Enjoy it!

(Typed as I vape!)

You do need to learn how to smoke it, though. Slower, longer draws & it may make you cough the first couple of times you inhale as you tend to get more vaping steam than you would smoke from a real cig.

OP posts:
Allergictoironing · 08/01/2014 18:06

Reiterating what magimedi said about persevering. Was at my hairdressers today & got him & one of the other stylists to try mine; both coughed really badly the first couple of drags but after that I had a problem getting it back from them Grin.

Remember to only use the liquids from the lovely Maggie for a few days, as the Joose juice ones may need to steep a bit.
