AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

Yes Smile

Get a spare though, or at least a spare replacement coil head.

goodasitgets · 19/12/2013 10:21

Have ordered the gs h2 off eBay - how long do coil heads last? And I got some apple pie joose juice too

ThisIsMyNamechange · 19/12/2013 16:08

I got some 11mg liquid today and that's made a huge improvement. Was thrilled to get it in Grape too as that's my fave flavour! But to be honest I'm a bit unsure how I feel about it. I'venoticed I get a horrible indigestiony sensation after I've vaped which is similar to the sicky feeling I used to get after using those Nicorette minis. The flavour isn't as strong as I was hoping and I'm not feeling as satisfied as I would after having a ciggy. At the moment I still feel I want to go out and have half a ciggy as well.

Am I doing something wrong or expecting too much? Honestly, does it just take a few days to get used to?

Cantabile · 19/12/2013 16:36

Wittsend, thank Plenty! She's been telling about Joose Juice for ages; don't know why I kept not going there!

Cantabile · 19/12/2013 16:40

Bh, Thisis, I am still having the odd fag as well. When I first started - sometime on the other thread - a few people did say that doing both for the first few weeks was pretty standard. Truthfully, I didn't want to give up at all just cut down a bit, and save some money. Both of which I have achieved beyond my wildest dreams (down to less than a third of my old cigarette intake, and the dosh I seem to have sloshing around!).

QueenStromba · 19/12/2013 17:06

I've found a use for my old CE4s :) The plastic bit on one of my iclear 16s cracked and I was able to replace it with a CE4 one.

What flavours have people tried from Joose Juice? I'm tempted to try the belgian waffle, cheesecake, gingerbread, apple pie, blackberry and blackcurrant flavours - has anyone had any of these?

ThisIsMyNameChange · 19/12/2013 17:27

Thanks Cantabile (and everyone who's given me advice) - that was what I needed to hear! I was feeling a bit discouraged seeing so many people who had turned off the cigarettes straight after starting to vape and thinking I would go straight to that stage. I do want to give up completely but I also need to believe something will (potentially) work.

I want to give up because of health, money, smell, the many negative effects my smoking will have on my ds and dh (ds is young enough that if I stop soon he'll never know I smoked - I probably will tell him when he's older but don't want him growing up with it, although it never smoke around him or indoors but obviously must smell). Plus none of my family know I started again after he was born [idiot emoticon]. I have family staying over Xmas so I need something to get me through it. Also I suffered horrendous mh problems during pregnancy and I think a lot of that was down to me quitting the fags so I want to be a firm non smoker BEFORE any future pregnancies!

My aim is to be fag-free by end of Jan and nicotine free by my birthday in August. I may continue to vape the nicotine free stuff!

littlemisssarcastic · 19/12/2013 18:16

Hi everyone, Just a quick question.

Does anyone feel uncomfortable at all vaping in front of other people? I have confined my vaping to indoors and in my car so far, but have only been vaping since yesterday evening.
Am a 15-20 a day smoker usually, but have smoked 3 cigarettes in that time, due to enjoying the vaping and finally being able to sit in the warm indoors and vape instead of standing outside in the garden, but I smoked the cigarettes when I had an unexpected visitor this morning, because for some reason, I felt uncomfortable getting my Ecig out. Sad
I did mention I was vaping now, so I'm not trying to hide it, I just don't want anyone staring at me whilst I vape ha ha.

Did you all vape in public, in front of people straightaway, or not?
Is it something that comes with time? Confused

QueenStromba · 19/12/2013 18:58

Don't feel bad for starting smoking again namechange - I've lost count of the number of times I've given up smoking for many months just to start again. The good news is that I'm past my normal relapse point and I have no desire to have a cigarette - vaping is just so much nicer.

I was the same littlemiss - I felt really self conscious when I moved from a cigalike to an ego. It wore off after a month or two though.

thistooshallpasswontit · 19/12/2013 18:59

My kit arrived today-it was like Christmas morning I was that excited! So far I am impressed. Love the amount of "smoke" on the exhale and the strawberry juice is satisfying my sweet tooth. Thinking about fags a lot though and not sure how often I should be vaping-do you vape the same amount as smoking? How many draws do you have at a time? It's tempting to use it every 5 mins!! Also, how are you holding them? It feels awkward...(I know what you mean littlemiss)
Thanks again Thanks

littlemisssarcastic · 19/12/2013 20:41

Thanks. I am ok when I am at home and haven't smoked at all. Tbh, when my guest came this morning and I smoked the cigarettes, I was left wanting another cigarette and another cigarette and I didn't feel satisfied. I was ok until I had smoked the first one.
I also didn't like the taste in my mouth, and I felt a bit bleurghhh.
It's just so much nicer to be vaping Mint. It just feels fresher and cleaner, so I look forward to feeling comfortable enough to vape all of the time, whether in company or not.
Despite all of the vapers on here, I don't know a single vaper IRL. I have mentioned to a few people I wanted to start vaping, and a few people have mentioned buying the disposable ecigs from garages etc, but I've not actually seen anyone with an Ecig of any kind.

QueenStromba · 19/12/2013 20:43

I just use mine whenever I want to. I thought I was getting through a lot but I stuck to one flavour for the last week and only got through 20ml of ~14mg in a week in an iclear 16 which is supposed to be very juice thirsty.

I have a puff or two every few minutes - more frequent than actual smoking but fewer puffs at a time. Despite the more frequent nicotine doses I find it easier to go without than with cigarettes - I used to find it hard to go an hour without a cigarette but I can go that long without vaping easily enough. I used to have nicotine lozenges for when I had to go an hour without a fag because I got massive withdrawal otherwise but I'm fine now without them.

Cantabile · 19/12/2013 22:34

I vape all the time too. You don't get that natural pause like you do at the end of a cigarette. My brother, at first, tried to work out how many inhales per cig and emulate that with the ecig, but stopped trying pretty soon. Vaping is a slower way to ingest nicotine, I think - pretty sure I've read that somewhere in all the literature - so you use it slightly differently.

I wasn't worried about vaping in front of people, but people in my small town tend to think I'm a bit eccentric strange, so what difference did it make to add yet another oddity to my arsenal Grin

Having said that, if I were at a school event - even if it were outdoors - I wouldn't vape in front of the schoolkids (though I might find the bike sheds and vape behind them; somehow, you'd have to do it, wouldn't you?).

What I do do when people are at my house is show them the equipment, before I actually vape in front of them. I think in my early days I made it look like more of a demonstration - look, isn't it interesting? - rather than "I need a fag but I'm doing this instead".

Quite a lot of my friends smoke, and most of them want to give up, not least to save money, so a lot of people around me are interested. 3 or 4 people already have ecigs as a result of evangelising, and another 3 or 4 are getting them for Xmas.

All that said, I still don't see a lot of people vaping, even when I'm in our nearest city. Today I saw 2 which makes it 3 altogether over a couple of months. I tend to do it rather ostentatiously when I'm in the city, I think because I want all those people standing about outside having a swift fag to know there's an alternative.

goodasitgets · 20/12/2013 19:06

Started tonight. I've ordered 24mg I think but the watermelon I have here is 18mg, I think it's not strong enough as I still want a cigarette Angry

So I'm doing what someone suggested (not sure whether on this thread or previous) and basically using vaping in between so I'm having a cigarette, then vaping instead of when I would normally have another

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 21:37

Cantabile I've just nodded along to your whole post Xmas Grin

I think I pretty much chain vaped at every opportunity for the first month and a half. It seems to have calmed down over the last couple of weeks though. I get through about 2.5-3ml a day of 18mg. I have read that most people vape 2-5ml a day and that the right amount is 'whatever it takes' Xmas Wink You'll know if you've had too much, just as you know when you've smoked too much - you'll feel a bit sick and you'll put it down.

I have bored my mates shitless going on about my kit Xmas Blush I make a point of vaping when I walk past people smoking. I haven't seen anyone vaping near me (darkest se london) but a few up in central london. DH sees a lot - where he works vapers outnumber smokers and they all compare kit.

I miss the 'end point' of putting a fag out. I keep overdoing the pasta because I used to time it by having a fag.

Goodasitgets, good luck! how many fags did you smoke? I think it's a good idea to do both until you get used to vaping. It can take a while to get everything working well together.

Yay, thistooshallpass! It does feel awkward to hold until you get used to it. I have mine on a lanyard cuz i iz cool because I was forever putting it down and forgetting where it was.

Queen you made a frankentank! Xmas Grin I didn't manage to take mine to bits without trashing the plastic but I ripped all the wicks out and have been practising coiling on them. I have a few of those joose juice flavours. Gingerbread is lovely. Apple pie is very nice too but is more apple than pie. Blackcurrent is ok but a bit weak flavoured. I have the cheesecake but haven't tried it yet.

It wasn't me that first posted the joose juice link it was someone on the first thread. For those of you scratching your heads at the pricing structure (why are 3 x 10ml bottles cheaper than 1 x 30ml bottle?), all the 30ml are bogof! It doesn't say anywhere on the site, during the ordering process or on the invoice, they just send two of whatever you order.

goodasitgets · 20/12/2013 21:39

Um I would say 20 a day but probably more like 30

I need 24mg I think. Found a shop in town that has a taster bar, also Christmas flavours Grin so I'm going to pop in tomorrow

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 21:50
is worth watching if you want to understand what's happening with the EU. It's rather long but it's worth watching the whole thing for the house of lords debate at the end.

On saturday jan 11th there are going to be vaping flashmobs at bbc studios around the country to try and get media interest in what's happening and why it matters.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 21:52

Yes sounds like 24mg would be about right. What christmas flavours are they doing? I've been wondering whether you can get christmas pudding or mulled wine or ham in coke or brussel sprout

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 21:55

Thisismynamechange, have you tried any VG based liquid? I've read a few people saying the PG gives them indigestion. VG is also supposed to be easier on the throat so you could probably cope with higher nicotine.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 21:59

goodasitgets, the coils should last a few weeks if you occasionally. This video shows an evod clearomiser but they're the same inside as a gs-h2.

goodasitgets · 20/12/2013 22:08

They have spiced apple, Christmas chocolate and spiced clementine Grin

Will watch vid tomorrow, am planning on seeing if they have batteries in stock (as a back up) and I need a thing to stop the button pressing in when it's in my bag

goodasitgets · 20/12/2013 22:10

Ooh google throws up a lot
Christmas pudding and mulled wine!
www.decadent-vapours.com/de/448-christmas

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 22:41

Your battery should switch off if you press the button either 3 or 5 times really fast. You then need to do the same to switch it back on so it shouldn't go off accidentally.

Ooh I'm tempted to get some christmas pudding flavour now. The ones you linked to though are flavourings for mixing your own. these are the ready mixed ones.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 20/12/2013 22:43

Sorry, forgot to say, the light on the battery will flash a few times to show it's switching off or on.

thistooshallpasswontit · 20/12/2013 23:12

I nearly had a cig earlier this eve - I am really missing the few mins of solitude it gave me. I am enjoying vaping inside my cosy house though - I feel cleaner too Smile
I don't think I'm on a high enough strength looking at some of your posts - I've only got 6mg because that's what it said on the side of my menthols but should I have factored in how many I smoked?
