Are some women really this close???

I'm watching an episode of SATC and I just nearly spat my tea out in shock when Samantha) went into the bathroom with Carrie to help her remove her diaphragm which was stuck Shock

Now I know some female friends can be really close, and I know that SATC isn't real life....but seriously.....are there women out there who are genuinely this close to their friends???

I have helped my friends out in some very personal situations before, so yes.

I would always opt for a doctor or some other professional that I could avoid forever than call one of my friends though.

I went on a training course to learn how to do smear tests which was run by two women. On the last day, they told us that they always did each other's smear tests. The whole class was like Shock
Gross.

I had to do something similar for a friend, not even a close one. You just do what needs doing don't you?

SATC is a bit ridiculous to say the least but I have helped my friend out in an equally intimate situation.

I have a few friends who I wouldn't have a problem asking to do that. I'd be a bit embarrassed but its not really that bigger deal.

TBH though, I've had 5 DC so would get my fanny out at Piccadilly Circus if there was a valid reason.

I took out a friends clitoris piercing once, so I guess the answer is yes. She had the use of only one hand after breaking her other arm, in case anyone is wondering why I needed to help!

My oldest friend is a nurse and I used to work in care so we are both pretty unshockable / used to doing intimate personal care for others. We've seen each other in all sorts of states - she was with me when DD was born.

I'd have to be desperate to get her to do something like that.

This didn't happen to me & isn't exactly what you asked but is relevant nonetheless....
A friend's 40th do earlier this year....lots of people attend who've never met before. One girl gets outrageously drunk, collapses in club toilet & has to be carried back to hotel by several others who, not wishing to alarm birthday girl, do so covertly. Back in hotel room she starts being sick so others (who have never met this girl before) carry her to bathroom. She then says she needs a poo.
They sit her on toilet, she's pooing, still puking so they can't leave her alone. Then they notice blood & manage to work out she's on her period & needs her tampon changing.
One of the girls has to do this for her before they stick her in the shower & wash her down.

I'm pretty sure I'd do that for my best friends if I really HAD to but, for a stranger.....whilst pissed....?? OMG, no Shock

Can I just point out, regardless of the diaphragm, that this is a show where a grown woman walks the streets of NY wearing a fucking tutu! And treats herself to a $600 dollar pair of shoes because she's 'feeling blue'.

I once treated myself to a Mulberry handbag because I was feeling blue. I have never asked a friend to remove a diaphragm before but I can imagine that might happen. Have done worse and seen worse.

I watched this episode when it was first on with one of my very very best friends. We both agreed that we would be popping to the doctor rather than make that sort of demand of each other.

I can't imagine what would be worse than having to put your fingers inside your friend's vagina to dig out her diaphragm which will be covered in her mucus and some guy's sperm residue Grin

God no...

Im about to have my 6th baby & will be on my own unless I have at home birth. Dp will have to look after the older dc.

I wouldn't even be comfortable with my oldest & best friend of over 20 years being with me...thankfully she lives a couple of hours away so its not even a consideration...

Yes, I had to look at my friend's piles once. This elite service is limited to a very select group of my friends though!

I know it's not the done thing to admit on MN but I quite like SATC, it is possible to watch it without adopting it as a way to live one's life.

Its acceptable to meet a random man, bring him home and have him doing all sorts in that area, or turn up and have it mucked about by a hcp, but your friend who you like, know well and has her own so has an idea of what she's doing isn't normal? No to me its much stranger with a doctor or new bloke.

Also whats wrong with treating yourself to something nice when 'feeling blue'? I've bought myself shoes/a bag/ spa treatment when feeling down and based on my experience of working in retail, a woman dropping £300-£400 on some shoes to cheer herself up really is not that unusual.

part of me says noooo! and part of me says well, plenty of people flash their bits at strangers when they go for waxing, vajazzling etc etc, so it's not that bad. I personally only show my bits to the smear nurse or anyone who happens to wander into the room when I'm in labour. Even then, I don't really want to bump into them in Tesco the next day while my face and other bits are fresh in their memories. Why wouldn't midwives deliver their friends babies, or smear nurses do each others smears - they see so many it means nothing to them at all.

the drunk/peeing/pooing/period woman up thread just makes me think, wow, and no I don't think I could do that for a stranger.

WRT the feeling blue thing, maybe I just totally can't relate to that, but I don't know anyone in the financial situation to afford expensive shoes/handbags in the first place, never mind as a 'treat'. I 'feel blue' most days - if I'm lucky, I get myself some chocolate. I wasn't intending to have a go at anyone - it's just completely out of my realm of reality, it really is. I break out in a cold sweat if I buy half-price shoes in Clarks!

SATC is not for me.

My best friend had an incident with a lost condom when we were in our early 20's and on holiday after a night of very vigorous sex with a virtual stranger after two days when it still hadn't come out she was panicking about infection.
She could feel it but couldn't get it so I helped her fish it out, it is something that we have never discussed again.
