On a scale from 1-10 how unreasonable is my husband?

With 1 being not at all unreasonable and 10 being extremely?

I am going away for a week. Leaving tomorrow 6am.
I work part time, he works full time (but can be flexible) and long hours. He often go back to his study and work from 9 pm till midnight after the kids have gone to bed. Usually he finishes work at 6pm, so he has a 3 hour break then.

He just said "I will really catch up on work and get ahead while you are away." Hmm

Really?

I said to him "Do you really think that me being out of the house will allow you to get more work done when you have to pick up ds2 from school at 3.15, cook their dinners, clean up, take ds2 for his activities, do all their laundry, ensure their homework is done, that they have what they need in their pe kit bags, swimming bags, etc?"

His reply?

"Sure, I will just work an extra hour in the evening. Will be fine."

Is he on glue?

QuintessentialShadows · 04/10/2013 14:51

I hope not!

I don't think he's unreasonable, just a bit naive.

Just pat him on the head and say 'of course, dear' and make sure you bring him back booze - he's going to need it. Grin

jennycoast · 04/10/2013 14:52

Blush sorry. He really made me laugh though.

Caboodle · 04/10/2013 14:52

You will come home and house will be a mess, children will be filthy and washing will not have been done.....you know this Grin

HowardTJMoon · 04/10/2013 14:52

He's about a 2 on your "unreasonable" scale but at 478 on the "delusional" one.

enderwoman · 04/10/2013 14:53

Once you're back he will admit to bu.

Until then smile and nod.

QuintessentialShadows · 04/10/2013 14:53

Well, it may be a good thing, he might have a reality check.

I even had to put through the Tesco order today, for him for tomorrow.

There is one way he will find out.

In my experience, men are often over-optimistic about what they can achieve in a set timespan. Sometimes my husband talks as if there were 48 hours in a day, the amount of stuff he intends to fit in. He rarely manages a fraction of it.

I just let him get on with it, as I learned long ago that there is no way he will listen to anyone else.

CocacolaMum · 04/10/2013 14:55

bless.

That said when my OH used to work away I must admit that I did get loads more work done...

BeckAndCall · 04/10/2013 14:56

Well he'll think he's about a '1' and he's about to find out that he's much nearer a '10'!

QuintessentialShadows · 04/10/2013 14:56

Caboodle - yes, I know this.

But that is going to be very inconvenient as it so happens that I am flying back with family friends! They are going to stay at a nearby hotel, but they will want to come visit..... Confused Oh dear....

Funny how I also get more done when he is away! Grin

YouTheCat · 04/10/2013 14:58

I also get more done if dp isn't here but that's because the temptation just to snuggle up and watch crap together is too much. Grin

bluestar2 · 04/10/2013 15:00

Please post an update of how he got on. Perhaps he will prove us all wrong and when you come back the dcs will be like the von trap kids and he will have a whistle!

IvanaCake · 04/10/2013 15:02

Well you can't possibly leave him to care for the children alone when he is so clearly delusional. It wouldnt be safe!!

ivykaty44 · 04/10/2013 15:04

It sounds as if he thinks the fairy will do all that stuff whilst you are away just like she does when you are there Wink

Hibu he is just a bit dim

bigbuttons · 04/10/2013 15:04

Do please update us once you get back! He's bonkers!

FastWindow · 04/10/2013 15:05

Yes quint please update in a week. I look forward to hearing how the kids have enjoyed it. Bet they'll have been wearing each other clothes all week.
What a wonderful opportunity to show a DH what a mother actually does all day!!

QuintessentialShadows · 04/10/2013 15:07

lol.

Ds1s school uniform blazer will need dry cleaning by monday. (He is in secondary) If he gets detention this week, I will blame dh!

LazyGaga · 04/10/2013 15:09

Ha! Agree with pp who said men can be deluded when it comes to anticipating how stuff they can get done. I had this the other week when DH was spouting off at 5pm how he was going to get several small jobs done, make an elaborate curry entirely from scratch and watch the first Lord of the Rings DVD with dc2, all before 7.30pm. Well, we eventually ate the curry at about 8.30pm and the LOTR DVD never made it out of the box...

Vintagecakeisstillnice · 04/10/2013 15:12

Ahhhhh bless him!

Mandy21 · 04/10/2013 15:22

But he might be able to do it all in an hour?!

There is the "male" approach to homework it looks fairly reasonable, no need to check it or make sure the grammar / punctuation etc is correct, laundry doesn't look too dirty so I'll just stick it back in the PE bag, cleaning we'll have ready meals all week, no washing up and a quick hoover will do it, activities I'll be emailing on my iphone the whole time without actually watching child at all and the "female" approach to those.

I think thats probably accounting for the difference Smile

PoppyFleur · 04/10/2013 15:22

YABU - why on earth would you want to give him a heads up before you go?? Just smile and say breezily "I knew you would cope, you are such a trooper!"

Then come home laden with a bottle of strong spirit (he will need it) and thank you cards for all the local takeaways that will be feeding DH & DC whilst you are away! Wink

QuintessentialShadows · 04/10/2013 15:30

He is a no ready meals kinda guy. When he cooks, we are talking no carbs, steamed salmon and vegetables...

The kids will have a serious fish aversion when I get back. I think I will need to let them gorge themselves in Pizza Hut deliveries for days! Grin
