Why would someone pay money to have a misspelt version of their name on their car? Or words?

E.g. M41HEW, A11CET, OF55IDE T

I get the initials ones, not that i would want one, don't get this.

I have a theory though!

VerySmallSqueak · 30/09/2013 20:26

Not me then Jenai as I have called no one a twat.

Bowlersarm · 30/09/2013 20:26

But designers aren't shy in having their logos on show, sparkling. Anyone interested in fashion/handbags/watches would pick up the logos instantly.

I know sod all about cars, and wouldn't know what was expensive and what wasn't.

Horsemad · 30/09/2013 20:27

Lol, was just about to say the same Sparkling.

Bowlersarm · 30/09/2013 20:27

.....not that I know a whole lot about fashion either.....

RedToothBrush · 30/09/2013 20:29

The point is the deliberate drawing of attention.

You could drive a ferrari and be a twat and drive a ferrari and not be a twat. The difference would be between revving it at the lights, speeding through tunnels, winding the window down and grinning like a moron at everyone and just driving it around without a thought to what anyone else thinks just because you love the car.

Its all in the way you carry yourself and interact with the world, not what you have.

SirChenjin · 30/09/2013 20:31

Not just a competitive egotistical twat...but a competitive egotistical twat who can't spell

JenaiMorris · 30/09/2013 20:32

Define class, Red.

Sparklingbrook · 30/09/2013 20:32

Cars in general are wasted on me I think. DH is always swooning over this car, that car but it's hard to enthuse.

And I am the last person that would want to draw attention to myself.

Normal car and no PP for me.

SirChenjin · 30/09/2013 20:32

this one even

VerySmallSqueak · 30/09/2013 20:37

Sparkling I agree.

A car needs some basic things - 4 wheels, engine - that sort of shit.

As long as it goes, the rest is fluff.

JenaiMorris · 30/09/2013 20:40

What's the point in having a Ferrari if you can't rev it at the lights, speed through tunnels, wind the window down and grin like a moron through the sheer joy of it?

JenaiMorris · 30/09/2013 20:41

RedToothBrush · 30/09/2013 20:42

I think the 'class' thing, is definitely about whether you are doing it to 'prove' status, rather than just being and feeling that need to prove your status.

You can be classy and poor (and indeed working class) - you certainly don't have to be rich or middle (or even upper class) to have class. Its not about having money, more about having the confidence to know you just can exist without having to justify or constantly have to show the world you are X, Y or Z.

Mouserama · 30/09/2013 20:42

I love my personalised plate. My DH gave it to me on our wedding day. It spells my initial and full name. He had the same one on his car (different initial, obviously not exactly the same plate). The thing is, to anyone who doesn't know our name, it looks like a normal number plate. And it actually makes my car look 6 years older than it is. But I don't care - I love it!

SirChenjin · 30/09/2013 20:45

Moron is the operative word there Jenai

I hate the word chav, but they do make me think chav.

ohnoimnot · 30/09/2013 20:53

Seasicksal, You need to get your facts straight before you go spewing a load of rubbish.

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 30/09/2013 20:54

David Beckham had P10 DRB - I wouldn't think he gave a shit if anyone thought he was a twat!

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 30/09/2013 20:55

They are not as bad as fake Louis Vuitton handbags though - that is the height of tackiness!!

Sparklingbrook · 30/09/2013 20:57

But I wouldn't know a fake/real handbag Clover. Sad

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 30/09/2013 21:00

Thats not a bad thing though really Smile

GoofyIsACow · 30/09/2013 21:00

DH has one with his initials, his parents bought it for his 21st, i dislike it intensely, he wanted to put it on the family car (i drive it 99% of the time) i made him put it on his manky old work van instead! Blush

His parents have their initials on their cars though so they don't see it the way i do, which obviously is fine and i don't judge them for it, i just would never have one or equally drive a car emblazoned with my husbands initials

VerySmallSqueak · 30/09/2013 21:02

Not to worry Sparkling.

A handbag is for putting stuff in.That's all.

If you like it,who cares what its name is.....

Sparklingbrook · 30/09/2013 21:04

It's always entertaining to see a bloke driving his other half's car with a right girly PP. Grin
