EDL....

I am a regular who has name changed for this thread.

I would like to have a discussion about EDL. I want to know exactly why people find them so abhorrent and why it is such a taboo subject.

I dislike militant Islam, it is a dangerous movement and it really frightens me. A family friend was killed in 9/11 and it was a horrible horrible tragedy.

I have two mixed race children, my DH is mixed race, I would not say I'm racist or xenophobic.

As far as I can gather EDL oppose militant Islam, and this alone.

Why does this make them racist? Surely militant Islam, although a very small proportion of Islam, should be opposed?

Am I reading a different thread to flaflafla? I can't find any posts justifyong fgm?

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 12:31

Flaflafla stop spouting shit. All you are doing is proving everyone's point that EDL supporters are thick and liers.

Latara · 30/09/2013 12:32

Flaflafla I have Muslim male friends who defend Women's rights and think FGM is an abomination.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 12:34

And can I add that FMG is not a solely Muslim issue. This is practiced in about 25 different cultures...

Little Pea Pod And all you are doing is proving my point that some people are just blind to the reality, and would be prepared to put up with anything rather than being called "RACIST" which is the worst thing in the world apparently.

AdventureTed · 30/09/2013 12:38

Pea - I suggest you speak to the residents of Dewsbury, Oldham and Rotherham. Danny Lockwood (in his book referred to above) describes how he was harassed out of his home to make way for muslims.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 12:39

Burnley is the 11th most deprived town in Britain. www.burnleyexpress.net/news/business/local-business/burnley-drops-10-places-in-deprivation-table-1-3246288

Here is the one I talked about earlier. Reporter attacked by Muslims on streets of Burnley. Attacked in the name of Sharia Law.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 12:42

Flaflafla that post makes no sense. As MrsD says please provide us with some evidence. Can you start with the cash for house and schoolgate scandles!

Latara · 30/09/2013 12:44

Sharia law does not allow people to be attacked - but obviously in a large population of people there will be those who are only human as I said before and who will break laws and for example attack others, and Muslims are human.

White people attack others too and they too are only being human.

Doesnotdrinkalcohol · 30/09/2013 12:46

Good watch.

gordyslovesheep · 30/09/2013 12:47

A quick google of Danny Lockwood makes interesting reading ...

Latara · 30/09/2013 12:48

AdventureTed the Muslims I know would be more likely to try to convince Danny Lockwood to become a Muslim than to force him out of his home to become a Muslim.

Or maybe this Danny Lockwood was a crappy neighbour!

Ultra religious people are just like ultra political people - a bit of a PITA in my opinion.

But I defend their right to be ultra religious - whatever their religion.

Theodorakiss · 30/09/2013 12:55

Little Pea Pod And all you are doing is proving my point that some people are just blind to the reality, and would be prepared to put up with anything rather than being called "RACIST" which is the worst thing in the world apparently.

Actually I think being racist is one of the worst things in the world.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 12:56

They are not quite as active and widespread as the fundamental Christians who picket funerals, clinics etc calling dead soldiers Fags and desperate women whores.

Really? I've never seen that in this country, or heard about it even. I know the Westboro people do it in the US, but it's not even common over there.

Muslim gangs trying to enforce Sharia law is fairly common here. And the stickers on lampposts etc are very common.

Latara · 30/09/2013 13:00

flaflafla those Muslim gangs are in the minority, and so what if there are a few stickers around?

Like I said, it's called being human, just like you are.

Theodorakiss · 30/09/2013 13:02

I would rather be a Muslim than an EDL supporter, from the looks of the website I would be more attractive, thinner and have more teeth in a hijab than a polo shirt.

Latara · 30/09/2013 13:05

I know a Judge in Pakistan who practises Sharia Law. He would tell you that the minority of Muslim gangs who wish to allegedly 'enforce Sharia Law' are in the wrong because Sharia Law does not allow intimidation, abuse, assault or any other crime.

Sharia Law is used for civil law in Northern Pakistan, here in the UK it's not enforceable by law and the practitioners of Sharia Law would frown upon anyone who tries to unlawfully 'enforce it'.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 13:06

Flaflafla please can you clarify for us. Are you simply supportive of the EDL or are you actually an EDL member? I am assuming you are an EDL member rather than sympathiser not that it makes a difference
