EDL....

DandyFloss · 29/09/2013 11:41

I am a regular who has name changed for this thread.

I would like to have a discussion about EDL. I want to know exactly why people find them so abhorrent and why it is such a taboo subject.

I dislike militant Islam, it is a dangerous movement and it really frightens me. A family friend was killed in 9/11 and it was a horrible horrible tragedy.

I have two mixed race children, my DH is mixed race, I would not say I'm racist or xenophobic.

As far as I can gather EDL oppose militant Islam, and this alone.

Why does this make them racist? Surely militant Islam, although a very small proportion of Islam, should be opposed?

Sassh. [Shock] It was the evil muslins from Burnley that were behind all those attacks. They have a grand plan and they are trying to take over the world from Burnley, don't you know! I read it on google so it met be true. Grin

DysfunctionallyNormal · 30/09/2013 06:09

Dandyfloss - you say militant islam frightens you. So it should. It should frighten us all. So should militant christianity. I don't feel this is a taboo subject to discuss at all.

however, if you wish to discuss it then you will have to state your reasons, citing 9/11 as a reason is just lame in my opinion.

I'll start you off, militant islam and christianity frighten me because of the relative ease with which they brainwash not just the "ordinary folk" but also the people in power. They both disempower the individual-specifically women-and aim to re-instate a dictatorial patriarchal society that has no place in the modern world. The governments of the developed (western) world are very keen to focus on extremist muslims and islam yet they ignore the impact of extremist christians and christianity in their respective countries and around the world - what do you think of the extremist christian policies in america with regards to sexual education, contraception and abortion? What do you think of the extremist christian policies in russia with regards to homosexuals? Do you think extremist islam is worse than extremist christianity? which do you feel is currently MORE of a threat to our society and globally?

i'm looking forward to your response.

P.s - If you're a journo on here sourcing material then you'd better get my permission before quoting me or using any of my ideas!

No right thinking individual should have any time for the EDL scum.
Arson attacks on mosques ( and on at least one occasion a Hindu temple, rubbishing their claims that they stand against only Islamic fundamentalism.)
Violence, abuse and intimidation to a massive spectrum of non white members of public, families with children included.
Regular use on public forums of disgusting racist terms of abuse (rag head, paki, wog and worse)
Hundreds of nazi salutes clearly visible at their laughable "demonstrations".
Many of their members have history of being involved with other far right extremist parties such as the BNP and NF, who hold abhorrent ignorant and racist views.
The EDL seek to spread fear and misinformation and divide our communities for their own ends. Of course Islamic fundamentalism is a concern however this thankfully represents a minuscule proportion of followers of Islam, most of whom condemn it utterly, whereas the EDL would have us belief these views are an integral part of the Muslim faith, which damages community relations and unity.
As the BNP do, they seek to hide behind an acceptable face to attempt to worm their way into accepted society, and it is a relief that thankfully most are not taken in.
They are a bunch of illiterate, ignorant, violent, cretinous football hooligan REJECTS who belong in the toilet bin of history.
And the fact that you felt the need to name change for this post suggests to me that you know full well that to show them any sympathy is fucking shameful.

Theodorakiss · 30/09/2013 08:51

I am glad someone had the guts to post this, as abhorrent as I find such people, I have always wondered if people actually do think this stuff. facebook is absolutely full of people who support the EDL and often also have mysogynist crap on their pages as well.
I recommend this site, it's fun. A kind of self styles fascist police website.

edlnews.co.uk/

By the way, anything radical, Muslim, Evangelical, Jehovah etc is generally not supported or enjoyed by sane and safe human beings which kind of asks how sane the rascist haters are.

noddyholder · 30/09/2013 09:12

They thought Brighton pavilion was a huge mosque and the police had to alert staff (my dp) loony idiots

AdventureTed · 30/09/2013 11:06

This book comes highly recommended by The Telegraph:

And this book is by someone who has seen islam change his hometown beyond recognition (he is another person who mentions how he was harassed out of his home so muslims could move in):

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 11:19

Does anyone know if there is a yawn smiley? I wonder whether MN can get the developers to design one. Hmm

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 11:38

Some people only see what they want to see. They are so afraid of being seen to be "Racist" that they will overlook any misgivings they might have about Muslims, even when they are staring them right in the face. Terrorist attacks? "but.. the IRA etc". Female genital mutilation? "but... it's their culture etc". "Grooming" gangs? "Well what do you expect when chav parents allow their daughters to act like sluts and stay out all hours." It's apologism. If it was white British people doing these things you'd be absolutely up in arms. If someone associated with the EDL bombed a mosque, would you be going out of your way to remind everyone that "it wasn't representitive of all EDL members"? No, or course not.

And again, it's funny how people who have to live around Muslims on daily basis get this, whereas people that live in leafy suburbs or secure gated communities down south just don't. They have a completely different experience of mass immigration to us. And yet their experience is the "correct" one, whereas ours is the wrong one.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 11:58

Flaflafla. I think your credibility was shot a few pages back when you didn't seem to understand that food sector commercial contract decisions where made by transactional and price driven buyers or that no one can buy a house by turning up at 6am with bag of cash Hmm. That fact that you seem to say that FGM is linked to Islamic culture and not a bigger global issue relating to several cultures etc., says a lot. Your last post has just confirmed why it is you probably fit right into the EDL culture. Grin

Grin @ noddyholder

I am finding it near impossible to take the four maybe five people that are pro EDL on here seriously. I am starting to see the comic genius in their posts. Grin

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 12:03

The contracts for meat were switched due to the schools having Halal meat for everyone, Muslim or not. Price was not a factor.

You don't beleive the bag of cash story? I suggest you do some research. It's absolutely commonplace here. Now I don't know if anyone has actually sold their house that way, but I know plenty of people that have had "offers" in that way. And I do know people that have buckled under the pressure and sold up.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 12:09

I am smelling a big whiff of BS about the cash for house from here and I am abroad (12 hour flight) at the moment! Grin And as for the food sector contracts you seem to think you are the only one that understands that sector. Out of interest, what do you actually do in that sector?

People tuning up on peoples doors with a bag of cash to buy their house? Oh yes, its that easy, hmm. What a pile of horseshit.

I`m laughing at the portrayal of the South as leafy Suburbs and gated communities, ha ha ha ha.

Admit it, your a scare mongering gossiping racist. YY, a true EDL supporter.

AdventureTed · 30/09/2013 12:20

DeVere - there are reports of it happening in Rotherham too.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 12:20

I think BS and lying is "absolutely common place" in the EDL.

LittlePeaPod · 30/09/2013 12:23

I live in Yorkshire (working with clients throughout Yorkshire and Lancashire) and that's BS AdventureTed. You are making it up and lying.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 12:24

I am not lying. Do some research MrsDeVere. It's commonplace.

I don't know what E17 is like. I'm sure it's wealthier than anywhere around here. A tube ride away from the centre of London.

Latara · 30/09/2013 12:26

Muslims are human just like the rest of us - therefore they are normal and have faults and flaws just like everyone human.

Sometimes they commit crimes like other humans and get punished according to the law.
Sometimes they commit terrorism - like other humans and get punished for that.
Sometimes they are irritating and strange like other humans (well one of my old neighbours who was a Muslim definitely fell into that category) but some people are strange and you have to put up with it or live in a field in the middle of nowhere.

So are the EDL protesting against Muslims being human??

OneStepCloser · 30/09/2013 12:26

Many parts of the South have some of the poorest communities in the country. That is a fact.
