to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

If anyone has ordered from Paradise, how long did your order take to get to you? Smile

MistressDeeCee · 10/10/2013 23:34

Tiredmumno1 2-3 days Smile

stillenacht · 10/10/2013 23:53

Just ordered caramel and watermelon 0% (eek!) to try and cut down nicotine intake (currently on 14mg)Smile

Tiredmumno1 · 11/10/2013 09:10

Thanks very much Mistress Smile

MaggieMcGill · 11/10/2013 10:45

Good luck Still! Let us know how you get on with the 0%. My next step is to cut down to 11% but I've only been vaping for 9 days so might wait a while longer and I still have loads of 18%. Are you totally off the cigs?

stillenacht · 11/10/2013 15:53

Am going to alternate between 14mg (still have some 18 too) and the 0, the blinking thing only leaves my mouth when I'm teachingWink Yup no real cigs...8 days onSmile

stillenacht · 11/10/2013 18:38

How about you Maggie? Any cigs?

awaywego1 · 11/10/2013 18:59

I've been cig free for a week now-and am loving the vaping- a little too much-I'm hammering it for some reason-I'm using 12mg but am getting though about 2.5-3ml a day-eek! Might order some lower strengths as I think it's the hand to mouth habit rather than the nicotine. Still-I'm so happy to be off the cigs Grin

stillenacht · 11/10/2013 19:20

I'm getting through about 1.5mls a day. I think if I had a different job I would be doing it a lot more...shall see over the weekend.

Cantabile · 11/10/2013 19:37

I have been lurking and reading. Not quite sure how it happened but I seem to have ordered an ecig today. I am a very heavy smoker, but would like to save money stop. The one I've ordered is a Tornado Ego C mega twist compact kit, in tobacco flavour (can't bear menthol).

TBH, I am not at all sure what it is I've ordered. Having read this thread I chatted to a friend about it, and they sent me a link to that one as it was on offer.

What am I getting, do you know, and is it any good? Do you think it will help me?

stillenacht · 11/10/2013 19:54

Well I haven't looked back CantabileSmile it took me a couple of days to get used to it as it does feel different to the cigs. For me the cigs are dense and smooth but the ecig juice feels thinner and to start with, rougher. However I have only once or twice fancied a real cig. Didn't actually have one though. I am not a heavy smoker (only 3-5 a day) but I'm 8 days down and still have 8 left in my packet of ten that I bought before the order came through. I love the different flavours (I am actually eating less tooSmile) and really don't think I'll go back.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/10/2013 19:55

Yes, I'm hammering it a bit too. I'm on 18mg in the morning but then switching to 12mg after lunch. I'm thinking of getting some 0mg and was looking at the 'shisha' flavours - is there a difference between these and normal fruit flavours?

I'm not bothering to wash between flavours much, just chucking in something I think will more or less go with whatever was in there before, but I'm wondering what to do with the last bits in the clearo if I do want to wash it and change to something completely different.

I'm really pleased this thread is still going and everyone's doing so well. Flowers

Does anybody else now have an area of their home which resembles a little chemistry lab and does anybody else pretend to be Mr White?

Shopping list: gingerbread, butterfly bait, pipe cleaners ...

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/10/2013 20:26

Cantabile that kit has everything you need to start and that battery looks good. I haven't used those sorts of atomisers so I don't know what they're like.

If you're a heavy smoker make sure there is enough nicotine in the e liquid. 18mg seems to satisfy most 20/day smokers - if you smoke much more than that, get the next level up (24mg?), at least to start with.

You'll want another battery soon, especially if you are using it heavily. these are great for the price and can be used with the atomiser from your kit. You'll also have a different sort of atomiser to try. Meanwhile, don't panic if the battery runs down - they only take a couple of hours to charge.

Good luck Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/10/2013 20:50

this woman is my new hero Grin

Cantabile · 11/10/2013 21:05

Thank you! I like the look of that battery, too. On that page, they have evod atomisers in nice colours Blush - would they fit with the thing I'm getting too?

I'm not sure what strength liquid it comes with. How bad is it to do both?

Cantabile · 11/10/2013 21:06

That woman is lovely.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/10/2013 21:15

Anything that says eGo will fit :)

FinickityCoder · 11/10/2013 22:48

Read this thread and ordered a VIP ecig the next day, just in time for Stoptober. Now 11 days in, the longest I've ever stopped smoking for since I started 11 years ago, and I honestly can't imagine smoking ever again. I desperately wanted to quit but had never even managed a full day before.

KatyTheCleaningLady, I am so glad you started this thread. It's changed my life!

MaggieMcGill · 12/10/2013 10:28

Still I'm 9 days 19 hrs and 56 mins without a proper cig according to my app Smile Seeminly I've saved £73.50. Mmmh! That is debatable because I've spent a small fortune but not as much as I would have if I was still smoking. Plenty I am totally Mr White! I have a box filled with lots of shite cotton buds, syringes, liquid. I've not had the heart to throw out my gurgling clearos yet so they are in my box too. Still convinced I'm doing something stupid with them Confused I've had to buy another starter kit as last night I was in my neighbours house trying to convert her. She has been spending £7 a time on disposable e cigs. Last night I took her my spare battery and a few flavours in clearos. I'm hoping I've converted her. Next step is my mum who is a 40 a day smoker.

MaggieMcGill · 12/10/2013 10:42

I think if we all manage to make it to the end of Stoptober Katy should be nominated for the Chimborazo present thing that mumsnet does? I've been lurking on here for a while but only posted on this thread. Does anyone know how to nominate? Smile

Mojavewonderer · 12/10/2013 11:22

My mum has emphysema and is still smoking real cigarettes even though she has an e-cig. She bought one of the first ones and wasn't very impressed. My husband uses an e-cig to smoke socially and he loves it. I wish my mum would swap to e-cigs but she won't and she says she is fed up of us 'going on at her' and it makes her smoke more. I do not say a word but inside I just want to slap her. I think e-cigs are amazing and very clever. Well done to all of you for quitting smoking and enjoy your e-cigs in peace :)

magimedi · 12/10/2013 11:30

In seven days time it wil be a whole year since I last smoked a cigarette!

(Don't worry, I will remind you all on the great day.)

I was aa smoker for over 40 years, smoke rollies (20 a day). I loved smoking, it was my hobby enjoyed my cigs, enjoyed rolling & it was part of who I was. I stopped because I had a bit of a cough & then got a chest infection & I knew I had to say goodbye to my love affair with cigs.

I can honestly say I haven't wanted a cig since then. I vape with 12mg Sherlock (started with 18mg) & use about 14mlls per week.

If I can do it - anyone can!

MaggieMcGill · 12/10/2013 11:40

Mo, if you don't mind me asking how old is your mum? Mine is 60 in December. We both went o smoking sensation classes last January to try and quit. Champix made her feel sick so she stopped them as soon as she started. I did manage ok with champix but then we both were hit with a big family tragedy that made me start again. My mum just thinks that the damage is already done now so there is no point in stopping. Despite nursing and watching her big sister die of lung cancer 5 years ago :(

MaggieMcGill · 12/10/2013 11:43

Woo hoo! Go Magimedi! I will be you this time next year Thanks

MaggieMcGill · 12/10/2013 11:46

Ps. I have no idea what a Chimborazo pressi is??! Dam you autocorrect! Smile
