to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

That's a good price as it includes a charging case!

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/10/2013 22:19

this slipped off my TIO so just rejoining. I am mixing it at the moment but ecigs have cut my actual smoking in half. From 4 a day to 2 a day

ilovesooty · 08/10/2013 22:20

Oh, not actually a charging case but a good deal nonetheless.

Can anyone recommend some e juice flavours? I've recently started buying mine from vape escape and so far menthol, banana cream and watermelon are my favourites.

stillenacht · 09/10/2013 06:49

Apple pie is lovelySmile

MaggieMcGill · 09/10/2013 08:11

Watermelon and bubblegum are my favourites so far, not so keen on Irish cream or chocolate lime and my tobacco flavoured one just tastes weird now and makes my mouth feel dirty.

ilovesooty · 09/10/2013 11:10

Cookie Dough. Vanilla ice cream. Awesome.

ilovesooty · 09/10/2013 11:11

And banana.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/10/2013 14:24

I'm using Hangsen liquids. So far my favourites are RY4 (tobacco), vanilla and mocha. I tried rum but it tastes really artificial and also Desert Ship (tobacco, supposed to be like Camel) which is revolting, I think it might have actual camel shit in it. DH is preferring Desert Ship to RY4 though, so there's no accounting for taste Grin

It's been a week since my last fag!

SpookyRestingFace · 09/10/2013 15:22

I am really enjoying Grizwald flavours from Vape Escape. Have tried several samplers and bought a full-size Gingerbread, it's very autumnal - sweet and slightly spicy Grin. I also loved Perpetu Leche, which is like a creamy coffee. My evening vape is usually Hangsen Mint Candy, lovely sweet mint, softer and less faggy than menthol.

stillenacht · 09/10/2013 17:18

Vaping cola mixed with apple caramel pie... SmileSmileSmile Its Willy Wonka landSmile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/10/2013 18:22

I just tried RY6. It's VERY tobacco-ey! I had read a few reviews about it being very close in taste to actual smoking and it is ... if you've just given up 40 Gauloise or several medium size cigars a day Grin

Bleuurrgghh! I might try mixing it with RY4 for when I'm really missing tobacco but I found it way too harsh on its own.

Gingerbread sounds nice Spooky - is it OK in a plastic tank?

MaggieMcGill · 09/10/2013 19:34

Well, that's me just got passed my first full week without a cig and I'm feeling very positive still. On the downside I'm just back from my Metafit class and I thought it would be much easier but it wasn't. It still killed me. Plenty it's the Desert Ship tobacco flavour that I have, it is horrible Grin

nbee84 · 09/10/2013 19:51

My favourite vape at the moment is Mom & Pop's Pchela's Famous 5. I'm also quite partial to their Butterfly Bait. I quite like menthol and tend to mix spearmint & menthol together - because I bought some spearmint and found it toothpastey and, waste not want not, mixed them together.

RY6 is a cigar taste imo. I started on RY4 but very quickly went off any flavour that was tobacco like. When I first started going off RY4 I would mix blackcurrant or blueberry into it which made it far more palatable. Don't be afraid to experiment with your flavours.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/10/2013 21:02

Flowers Go Maggie! Get some more flavours to celebrate Smile

How are you getting on with the GS-H2? I am finding them a big improvement on CE4s. Are yours still leaking? I have found they build up condensation in the inner tube. It doesn't usually get to gurgling level until it needs refilling anyway and then I've been shoving a cotton bud down it - seems to deal with it ok. There's a useful article here about how to keep clearomisers working well. The first video shows how to clean and dry burn a non-rebuildable CE4 - I'm going to give it a go before I give up on the ones I have.

MaggieMcGill · 10/10/2013 08:40

Plenty, I have given up on them and bought some more CE4's. I was getting mixed up with leaking ang gurgling I think, they don't leak but they do gurgle as soon as I start you use them even although they have just been cleaned and are dry. I have managed to use only one out of the five but even that one needs a cotton bud shoved down it regularly. Maybe they were just too cheap? £8.99 for 5 on ebay but the seller was great, told me to keep them and gave me a full refund. I might try washing them out tonight like in the link but I think it's a waste of time. Going to stick with my CE4's for the time being.

SpookyRestingFace · 10/10/2013 09:38

Plenty, well, it's been fine in the CE4s and V-Nanos that I use Smile

I'm not nearly as savvy as some of you - am v. impressed at all the jargon flying around - I just bumble along with the same basic kit I started out with Grin

FrameyMcFrame · 10/10/2013 18:59

nbee84, where do you get your info about nicotine being harmless?
Is it copied and pasted word for word from Yahoo Answers? Not the most reliable source for medical information. If you search a little bit beyond your first search result on Google you might find out a bit more about recent studies on Nicotine.

p.s There are a lot of people who are making lots of money by keeping us addicted to nicotine. Not just e-cigs etc but the multi-million pound nicotine replacement industry, all owned by the same people who wanted to keep us smoking.

I clean my clearo with a pipe cleaner (thanks to DH, who stopped smoking 5 years ago, but I kept the pipe cleaners) dipped in meths. Leave it for 12 hours or so & it's like new.

Pipoe cleaners really do the job!

32flavours · 10/10/2013 20:01

How do you use a pipe cleaner to clean a clearo? I have a few that need cleaning but I wasn't sure how to do it.
