Irrationally annoyed by a Facebook post

Namechanged as this one definitely has the potential to out me.

Friend on Facebook posted this today - why on earth is is irritating me so much? If it had been written by an observer of the event I would get it.... but to write this sort of gushing crap about yourself I find, simply, weird.

Had an eventful start to the day, heading home from dropping DD in school I noticed a large group of children and a girl on the floor, I pulled over to find out what had happened as other adults turned up, we sent the group of children to school to get a teacher one adult rang her mum and an ambulance (as she had banged her head and hurt her arm).

I went into first aider mode, we got coats and blankets from some of the neighbours, a big umbrella from ours and I took my help for Hero's hoody off and gently placed it under her head and injured hand. (That's community spirit when you need it) :)

The girl was visibly distressed so kneeling in a puddle I calmed her by getting her to concentrate on slowing her breathing and spoke calmly and stroked the side of her forehead, she calmed down, the Paramedics eventually arrived and whisked her off to hospital.

Hope the girl is OK and on the mend soon, now for me it is back to the normality of everyday life, according to DS though I am a hero (he saw me looking after her as he got on the bus :)

A lovely thing to do, wasn't it? If that was one of my DC I'd be relieved and grateful that someone had stopped and taken care of them.

It's the way it's written I think, so bloody humble and worthy. Was there any need for telling the world your hoodie is a Help for Heroes one? Kneeling in a puddle? Seriously?!!

I know IAprobablyBU, it's Facebook, yada yada. But it keeps appearing in my feed and really annoying me. Seriously thinking about blocking her to stop it! She's a really nice girl usually. Am I being awful?

Although stopping to help an injured child is obviously A. Good. Thing., writing about it in that manner on your own FB page is boaktastic.

Especially the added detail on the hoody

I made me annoyed too :) She is giving herself a bloody medal and wants the whole world to know how amazing she is

I was a first aider at work for nine years & when you deal with an incidence there's sometimes a need to talk about it afterwards. Partly to go back through the experience in minutae & validate what you did, that you did the right thing etc & partly because its comforting to have people respond & tell you its OK.

Nope!!!! I get every word of what you have just said! One last night onine got me wound up, a long emotive spiel about the elderly who can't keep warm when our taxes go on those who don't deserve them. All in an obvious attempt to rally get a load of 'likes' from those in minimal skilled jobs but whose taxes save the world ;) ;)

I really, really want to say YABU given the circumstances of incident. But I just cant...I know Id ghoulishly keep re-reading this sickenly smug look at meeeee Im so wortheeeeeee status & getting more and more wound up by the minute. Was there an accompanying thread fawning all over her? annoyed from London

SHE thinks she is utterly amazing - I think the suggestion for a reply about her medal being in the post with a smiley face would be appropriate.
When I was at primary, a friends mum jumped into the river and saved a child from drowning in the river as we walked home from school. Nobody was ever allowed to mention it - her attitude was: it's what anyone would have done, it happened, the child is fine let's move on and forget about it. That's more of an appropriate attitude.

If i had done the same as her, i would be itching to tell people. Not sure I would do it on FB though.

YANBU to feel like that about the post. It was very prosaic and a bit much. But, can't deny she did do a good thing.

I was fully expecting to have the arse flamed off me here. Thank goodness for Mumsnet, my haven of normality! I don't feel like such a twat now.

In response to the YABUs, I know she did a good thing, I KNOW she deserves praise (hence the use of irrationally in my thread title) I just find the manner in which she has informed everyone of her heroism vomitworthy.

and FYI - 19 likes and 2 comments, one along the lines of "oh you're so amazing hun, well done to you!" and one saying "Bravo."

I like the "Bravo." It seems suitably sarcastic.

YANBU. That's just so dreadful, I'm shuddering. I mean great, of course, to help like that. But to write about it, to gather in the likes? WEIRD.I love the idea of doing a good deed without getting found out.

It sounds like some sort of incident report form she might have filled in after an incident at work if she is a trained first aider - but with far too much holier than thou attitude.
It's the 'now for me it's back to the normality of everyday life' that is particularly smug, oh but how can you live a normal life when you are so saintly and wonderful? You put a hoody under her injured hand Hmm

I think its a good statues.

It has made me think, perhaps i should do a first aid course as i wouldn't have had a clue what to do.

YANBU.
A guy on my facebook saved a man who had suffered a heart attack and had no pulse. He did CPR until the ambulance came and his actions saved that mans life. He said nothing on facebook until his mum posted something. He just said something like " yes I did CPR on a man in the street, he is in hospital now. Thoughts with him and his loved ones."
That is how you do it with style IMO.

You're not being awful. It's just what you do if someone is injured, no need to mention what hoodie or face stroking, or in fact anything at all
People save other people's lives every day and manage not to post on Facebook about it
