to have gone through 3 sets of red lights?

Roadworks have been on my street since last November. There are 3 sets of temporary traffic lights meaning if you time it badly you add 15 minutes to your journey.

morning sickness is dreadful just now. I needed to go to Asda fifteen minutes away.

First I was stuck behind someone doing 25 mph in a 40 zone. Then on the way back someone was stopping all the time for no reason. Then came to a road with speed bumps and someone was stopping completely dead before tackling each speed bump. Then all the lights were on red. Nothing was coming so I went through them all. Then got home and vomited.

BU?

Yes YABU. Roadworks are a PITA though.

TallyGrenshall · 24/08/2013 11:04

Yep, YABU

HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 11:05

You're a liability to the rest of us, stay off the roads

drivingisanightmare · 24/08/2013 11:05

I know Sad I really did feel abysmal, though.

Will I get in trouble?

HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 11:06

Btw, nothing was coming that you could SEE

Sirzy · 24/08/2013 11:06

YABU. There is no excuse to go through red lights unless you are an emergency vehicle

leobear · 24/08/2013 11:06

Is this for real? YABU. And may well have been caught on CCTV.

Sirzy · 24/08/2013 11:06

Depends if there were cameras on the lights

KirstyJC · 24/08/2013 11:07

Well yes you were BU but I can understand why. I have seen someone being sick in whilst driving a car and it's not pretty!

Hope you feel better soon.

drivingisanightmare · 24/08/2013 11:07

That isn't true soul. There was absolutely nothing coming and I was retching and choking!

MrsLouisTheroux · 24/08/2013 11:08

driving some have cameras on, others don't.
DH went through roadworks red and got £90 fine and 3 points. :(

leobear · 24/08/2013 11:08

Well if you were that ill, you should have found somewhere safe to pull over. Or not gone in the first place.

MrsLouisTheroux · 24/08/2013 11:09

Thing is, you should have pulled over if you felt so bad .

I know I can't believe I did it - Just felt so awful and teary and panicked!

specialsubject · 24/08/2013 11:10

so get out of the car and throw up. Better than a head on crash.

please stop driving.

KirstyJC · 24/08/2013 11:11

We have had lots of temp roadworks near us and generally the traffic lights cover a really small bit of road and it's quite possible to see the entire length of them, so you can clearly see whether anything is coming or not.

If I was about to be sick in the car and couldn't pull over, I would have done it too. Wrong I know, but I would rather get a fine than pay to valet the car - apart from anything else it would be cheaper! As long as it was absolutely clear from traffic then I think you took the best of 2 bad options OP.

But perhaps if your sickness is so bad you can't really drive safely, it might be better to get someone else to go shopping or use internet shopping? Next time you might not be able to carry on driving.....

TrinityRhino · 24/08/2013 11:11

next time pull over and throw up on the ground

or just don't post on MN about being stupid Grin

SmallFarAway · 24/08/2013 11:11

YABU. The lights are there as a safety measure a d you are putting the safety of everyone else at risk with your disregard. Would you have run normal traffic lights?

Take a plastic bag in the car with you and pull over safely if you need to vomit. You know, like everyone else who has ever suffered morning sickness has to do.

MrsLouisTheroux · 24/08/2013 11:11

Don't worry, it's done now :( :(

leobear · 24/08/2013 11:11

Oh well. Don't do it again! Not much else anyone can say, really.

livinginwonderland · 24/08/2013 11:11

Pull over if you feel sick.

drivingisanightmare · 24/08/2013 11:11

You can't pull over as roadworks are blocking the pavement if you see what I mean. I suppose I should have been sick while waiting for light to change but I was panicking!

OP posts:
HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 11:12

Everyone says ' I didn't see it' or 'I thought it was clear'.... AFTER an accident...

You aren't the first with morning sickness. You had the option of pulling over. What would you have done if something did start coming through the lights?

eurochick · 24/08/2013 11:12

I feel sorry for you, but you shouldn't have been behind the wheel at all in that state. And you should have pulled over if you were actually retching and choking. I'd be surprised if your concentration levels were not impaired in those circumstances.

Temporary traffic lights around my way always seem to have cameras on them.

Please take a cab next time.
