to have gone through 3 sets of red lights?

drivingisanightmare · 24/08/2013 11:01

Roadworks have been on my street since last November. There are 3 sets of temporary traffic lights meaning if you time it badly you add 15 minutes to your journey.

morning sickness is dreadful just now. I needed to go to Asda fifteen minutes away.

First I was stuck behind someone doing 25 mph in a 40 zone. Then on the way back someone was stopping all the time for no reason. Then came to a road with speed bumps and someone was stopping completely dead before tackling each speed bump. Then all the lights were on red. Nothing was coming so I went through them all. Then got home and vomited.

shelley may e we feel more confidant locally knowing our roads 'like the back of my hand'.... Then you get idiots similar to the op rocking up

daisychain01 · 24/08/2013 13:46

Its pretty unlikely they would have set up a speed / traffic offence camera for some local street roadworks, lets be realistic, so I think there could be some scare-mongering going on!

A more likely scenario might have been a mobile police van, but again, we're talking " after the fact" here and what are the chances of a mobile police unit turning up at that time, on that day in a residential road and catching driving in the dastardly act.

Not really sure why you are asking the question though, driving as if anything said can ever validate one of the worst driving offences, apart from drink driving - ignoring not one but 3 red lights. Excuses dont make it better, its black and white breaking the law, but that's already been said, so I thought I would comment on the "will I get into trouble?"

Count your lucky stars, you have probably got away with it and there won't be proof unless you saw someone whip out their iPhone and video you and your number plate.

HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 13:47

Ooh I was right!?

Birdsgottafly · 24/08/2013 13:50

"She panicked and made a silly decision - silly because she might get points and a fine (if she's very unlucky - seems unlikely to me), NOT because she was a danger."

Surely she would of still been throwing up when she got to Asda, so how safe would she of been going in and out of the car park?

As said if it was a member of your family that was hit, or your car, you would have a different opinion.

It you aren't fit to drive, then you don't.

Look at the mum and two children who were recently killed because a man with a heart condition, who should have been driving, mounted the pavement.

It couldn't of been clear all of the way there and back.

sparklingstars · 24/08/2013 13:51

Well it's done now. Please don't do it again though. I hope the morning sickness eases soon, I had it really bad with both of mine so you have my sympathies.

Madamecastafiore · 24/08/2013 13:54

Sadly it isn't just the idiots that do things like this that end up dead or maimed but innocent people going about their every day business.

Get out of the car and throw up at the side of the road FFS because I guarantee that you will have no qualms about doing so when you cause an accident and are faced with looking at the mangled wreckage complete with blood and stolen lives.

yellowballoons · 24/08/2013 13:57

I dont understand why the op would also post on AIBU on MN about this as well.

Madamecastafiore · 24/08/2013 13:59

Oh and it's not just the other people on the road that you seem to have a blatant disregard for but also your unborn child.

Am flabbergasted at your irresponsibility and selfishness.

Famzilla · 24/08/2013 14:10

I can't believe there are people saying they would rather do it & get a fine than throw up in their car & pay for a valet.

Such a horrible disregard for human life. Perhaps you'd think twice if someone you loved was the victim in a car crash caused by people thinking their own minor inconveniences trumps the law.

ilovesooty · 24/08/2013 14:29

I don't see why anyone appalled by the OP 's irresponsible behaviour is a bloody sod

JenaiMorris · 24/08/2013 14:48

Had anyone actually said they'd rather jump a red light than throw up in the car?

OP made a stupid error in extenuating circumstances, having been taken by surprise I suspect by severe nausea. I'm quite sure she won't be doing it again.

And the silly sods are those who cannot help but point fingers and wail about potential death traps because they so bloody love being in the right.

ExitPursuedByABear · 24/08/2013 14:52

So, if I am driving at at 6.30 in the morning, bright sunshine, temporary traffic lights for a distance of 20 feet, no drives or side roads in that 20 feet, no other traffic on the roads, clear view, are you all saying I would be wrong to drive through the red light?

notanyanymore · 24/08/2013 14:56

Was it on a straight road where you could see there was absolutely nothing coming the other way? (It does happen you know, just because there are traffic lights there doesn't mean you can't still SEE down a straight residential road) because in that case, really, who cares? People do it all the time when the bollocksing roadwork lights arn't working (except for some of these MN'ers obviously, I'm sure you all merrily sit there waiting for someone to come and fix the lights, so good of you!)

Famzilla · 24/08/2013 14:57

Jenai- Kirsty's post on the first page says just that.

ExitPursuedByABear · 24/08/2013 14:58

Yep - could see all the way past the 20 foot of roadworks.

notanyanymore · 24/08/2013 15:07

well then it wouldn't be dangerous would it, and there would not be any 'luck' involved in not hitting an oncoming vehicle as you knew there wasn't one there to hit.
If there were side roads, its was on a bend, at a cross roads OBVIOUSLY that would be different, as you wouldn't be able to do a proper risk assessment.

HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 15:08

Cars on driveways? Roadworks traffic?

HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 15:09

Emergency vehicle approaching at speed with lights on?

Madamecastafiore · 24/08/2013 15:10

I'm not a silly sod at all I am a grown woman who lost my mother before I turned 1 year old due to some c* driving dangerously.

MrsHoarder · 24/08/2013 15:14

Exit: you can see in all directions: you've paused to double check and are in sound mind then it isn't dangerous. If however you are panicking due to starting to retch then you are not in sound mind to drive, let alone decide whether its safe to bend rules designed to keep opposing traffic separate. Especially as generally lights have sensors and if there is no traffic around are likely to have started the changing process as soon as you drove up so there is no need to go through them.

If you have been waiting more than a couple of minutes or so then yes, proceed with caution. The highway code does allow this: you can go through a red light if you reasonably believe it to not be working. This is not the case here, where the OP was panicking.

And yes I do consider driving to be one of the most dangerous things I do. I would be surprised if there were people on this thread who haven't had a friend or family member killed or seriously injured in a RTA.

notanyanymore · 24/08/2013 15:15

Cars on drivways? Well they'll have to deal with people driving through there anyway with no idea as to which set of lights are on red and which on green.
Roadworks traffic? Confused not sure what you mean but if you can see there road is clear, its clear. Same applies to emergency vehicles, and its blooming obvious when they're about so hardly going to take you by suprise!

notanyanymore · 24/08/2013 15:16

Its is dangerous MrsH I totally agree.

SilverApples · 24/08/2013 15:17

YABU
Use online shopping, get someone else to go, walk to somewhere nearer to buy what you needed, borrow from a friend, do without.
You are running a stupid risk of killing yourself, your baby and other road users.
If you are feeling sick, stop the bloody car and throw up in a ditch.

MrsHoarder · 24/08/2013 15:17

Roadworks traffic is vehicles associated with the roadworks pulling out: the workers will set all the lights to red to let them do this safely.

Dackyduddles · 24/08/2013 15:18

You were a danger to yourself and others. You could drive through one 'accidentally'. 3 is stupid.

STOP driving if you cannot be trusted to your unborn child. Let alone rest of world.
