to have gone through 3 sets of red lights?

Roadworks have been on my street since last November. There are 3 sets of temporary traffic lights meaning if you time it badly you add 15 minutes to your journey.

morning sickness is dreadful just now. I needed to go to Asda fifteen minutes away.

First I was stuck behind someone doing 25 mph in a 40 zone. Then on the way back someone was stopping all the time for no reason. Then came to a road with speed bumps and someone was stopping completely dead before tackling each speed bump. Then all the lights were on red. Nothing was coming so I went through them all. Then got home and vomited.

BU?

driving but you went through 3 sets not one?

HarderToKidnap · 24/08/2013 11:14

I have sympathy for you, and the road works can be so infuriating. But you were not able to make a considered assessment about whether anything was coming if you were retching and choking. You should have pulled over. What you did was extremely dangerous, compounded by the fact that in that moment you shouldn't have been driving at all, let alone deciding whether to go through red lights. I am quite shocked, I must say, it's one thing to go through a red light if you really can see everything, conditions are good, you're making a calm considered assessment of the traffic or lack thereof.... Totally different to driving across whilst retching and choking. Just pull over next time and have a good old vom on the pavement! Needs must.

drivingisanightmare · 24/08/2013 11:16

It really wasn't soul - you can see very very clearly and it is my own road. I know it well

Ms only kicked in in past.couple of days, it is not much fun

Wow op, you're getting a hard time here!

You know you shouldn't go through red lights, but I think from your description that in this particular situation you could tell it was clear and safe. yanbu.

Honestly though? Get to bed. Order your shopping online. Get friends/family to do your driving for you.

Take care x

HarderToKidnap · 24/08/2013 11:18

How can you tel if something is cler and safe if you are retching and choking? It needs a good, considered look, not a quick glance whilst you are choking!

Not necessarily - we had one set of lights on a length of road that was about 5 metres long on a clear open stretch with no side roads - a quick glance would have been sufficient there. We can't really tell without seeing the lights/roadworks, but it IS possible to see the total length sometimes.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 24/08/2013 11:20

It'll depend if you were caught, really. 3 points and a £90 fine per set of lights would put you very close to losing your license. That's how serious it is.

Needing to be sick due to morning sickness wouldn't be an excuse. In fact, it'd probably be admitting that you were not in a fit state to drive, and were driving without due care and attention.

It's done now, but next time, order online or somethibg
You'll save yourself a lot of stress.

Its happened, no point in going over it, we've all done things wrong, I wouldnt beat yourself up over it.

ExitPursuedByABear · 24/08/2013 11:43

YANBU. If you can see clearly, it is a short distance and there was no one else on the road can't see the problem.

JeanPaget · 24/08/2013 11:47

I'm amazed that people think this is ok just because the OP thinks no one was coming and she felt a bit sick Shock

If I was one of your neighbours and I'd seen you drive through three red lights in a row I'd phone the (non-emergency) police.

You shouldn't be on the roads.

HeySoulSister · 24/08/2013 11:50

jean don't worry, there are some of us with sense here!!

(And former police officers who know the truth of it)

scarletforya · 24/08/2013 11:52

You should have vommed on the speed bumps!

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 24/08/2013 12:00

Yanbu

Its done now, no harm done.

EllesAngel · 24/08/2013 12:02
Wink

When you looked to see if anything was coming OP what exactly did you look for? Cars? Bikes? Cyclists? It's amazing how many people don't seem to see bikes when they looking to see what traffic there is.

YABU

PotteringAlong · 24/08/2013 12:09

3 red lights? You're probably looking at a £270 fine and 9 points on your license. As you've gone through 3 in a row no one could believe you we're stupid enough to think that was ok so I would expect them to think you didn't see them and, therefore, I would expect a criminal conviction for driving without due care and attention too.

You need to stop driving. You are not safe to be behind the wheel.

PotteringAlong · 24/08/2013 12:10
  • you were
lagoonhaze · 24/08/2013 12:13

You are putting mine and my childrens life at risk.

Stay off the roads until you can drive safely.

RoastedCouchPotatoes · 24/08/2013 12:15

You know you were wrong and it was a stupid decision. The reason you made the decision was because you weren't fit to drive. When you're vomiting, common sense isn't exactly there often, and now you've done it, you should make sure to get off the road and not drive for a bit, because you are incapable of driving as a result of the vomiting/choking thing. I don't want to be harsh as it sounds like you're feeling awful, but that's the facts.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2013 12:18

A very stupid thing to do OP but I guess you know that Sad

Imagine if everyone shot through red lights because they were desperate to get home?

PeazlyPops · 24/08/2013 12:18

You wouldn't have been able to run the red lights if cars were coming, would you?

You'd have pulled over instead and been sick in a bag or something.

That is what you should have done, rather than running the lights.

YABU and a danger to others.

yellowballoons · 24/08/2013 12:18

Would you do the same thing again?

LovesBeingOnHoliday · 24/08/2013 12:20

Not really sure why you are posting unless you are looking for a bun fight

Fakebook · 24/08/2013 12:38

Sorry about your MS OP, I finally know how shit it is, but seriously I don't believe there's nowhere to pull over on a road with roadworks. Even I managed to pull over into a side road and puke into a bag a few months ago when I was newly pregnant. You do not put yourself, your unborn baby and other pregnant road users and other men/women/children at risk just because you felt panicky and tearful.

Such a stupid stupid thing to do. I bet you were speeding too?

There was a story in the news the other day about a pregnant woman who was killed when an idiot drove into her car. Why would you risk it OP? Why?
