Babygrows aren't pyjamas!

... so are fine to be worn during the day!

Two-piece "outfits" just look so uncomfortable on a newborn. Waistbands? Elastic? They have no waist! They ride up and I find babies awkward to handle in "proper clothes."

I recall ex-SIL pointed out a 'dressed' baby at a party, in jeans and trainers (2 months old) and went on and on that I'd brought mine out in PJs.

DM made similar comment today about my youngest. She's not even three weeks! What's wrong with vests and rompers until they at least have a waist?!

You are totally Nbu! Proper clothes on tiny babies before 6 months old is needless! Unless you actually want to, and they don't mind!

stargirl1701 · 18/08/2013 20:05

YANBU. DD is 11 months and wears babygrows every day. I'm getting more and more comments as time goes by. I think her comfort is far more important than her appearance.

I have bought 'clothes' for 12-18 months. Grin

pianodoodle · 18/08/2013 20:05

It's newborn girls in frilly dresses with matching socks and frilly knickers that look the most uncomfortable

Yes I got given a set like that and tried it on DD at 2 months to take a photo. The pink in the dress just clashed with her big purple raging face!

Still have the scary photo but it definitely isn't one of the "cute" ones Grin

KFFOREVER · 18/08/2013 20:07

I love babygrows. DS is 5months and still wears them. During the day if its hot he would be in vest or romper suits. I dont like babies dressed up it must be uncomfortable for them with a waste band digging into them.

bootsycollins · 18/08/2013 20:07

Babygro and cardi combo, I love it. I'm particularly fond of white terry babygros mmmmmmmm Smile

LostMarbles99 · 18/08/2013 20:08

YANBU

I think neeborn babies dressed as mini adults look really odd and uncomfortable.

My ds is 7 months and I'm only just now putting clothes on and even at that it's tracksuit bottoms or soft waist trousers and a t shirt.

If we are just at home then he wears a babygrow

pigletmania · 18/08/2013 20:09

Winky would be hard and unsafe for a toddler to wear all the time, fine daywear for babes under 12 months, but for toddlers walking tey need shoes.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 18/08/2013 20:09

I agree. I loved seeing my 3ds all snuggly and comfy in their babygros.
I dont like jeans either.
I hate 'proper' shoes for little babies as well.

SisterMatic · 18/08/2013 20:10

My youngest DD is nearly 8 months and still wears sleepsuits 90% of the time. The other 10 if its hot its a summer dress or I sometimes put her in some dungarees.

I can't be faffed with tights, frilly socks..outfits with fiddle buttons etc.

I think my DD looks extra cute on a cold day with a sleepsuit, thick handmade cardigan, woolly hat, mittens and handmade blankets. I keep my grandma busy knitting Grin

usualsuspect · 18/08/2013 20:11

I dressed all my babies in real clothes from couple of weeks old.

Frilly frocks and all.

AndHarry · 18/08/2013 20:12

YANBU. DD is 9mo and wears babygrows when it's chilly and rompers when it's not. The first time mums at baby group think it's really weird :o

gintastic · 18/08/2013 20:13

My eldest 2 were in babygros most of the time until they walked. No3 is nearly 9 months and is in them most of the time as well.

Getting them dressed was always bottom of the list of things to do, and I rarely get to the bottom of the list!

Mabelface · 18/08/2013 20:14

If it's ok for adults to wear babygros in the day, then it's fine for babies. At least babies look cute, cuddly and gorgeous in them whereas adults look bloody ridiculous.

pigletmania · 18/08/2013 20:14

Yes I totally agree, sleep suits for young babies, proper clothes when toddlers

pudcat · 18/08/2013 20:19

Well, seeing 2 adults shopping in their babygros in Tesco last week makes me wonder if in 10 - 20 years time this will be the norm from birth to death.

Ihatepeas · 18/08/2013 20:24

Went so see a friend yesterday her dd is 2 days old and was wearing skinny jeans (not even elasticated waist, proper button up jeans) it made me a bit Sad
My dd wore babygrows full time for 3 months then prob 3 days a week until 6 months ish.

BrianButterfield · 18/08/2013 20:27

This is one of those MN things I never see IRL - everyone puts 'proper outfits' ( aka t-shirt and leggings type things) on babies to leave the house. I have never seen a baby out in a babygrow! And where are people finding these restrictive, uncomfortable baby clothes? All the ones I see are soft cotton with wide, soft waistbands, wide necklines etc.

Cheesyslice · 18/08/2013 20:30

I cringe when I see tiny babies in 'outfits'. The kid has an entire lifetime ahead of them to wear jeans etc...why not let them be all snuggly and comfy in a babygro for as long as possible? I'd give my right arse cheek to wear a babygro all day.

Baby outfits are for the benefit of parents and other 'coo-ers', not the child.

I've seen teeny babies in three piece suits before. Don't even get me started on that.

Kendodd · 18/08/2013 20:30

YABU

My cousin had a leather babygrow made for her newborn, it looked terrible but she loved it and put him in it loads.

Apart from that though, I'm with you all the way, I love babygrows.

BrokenBananaTantrum · 18/08/2013 20:31

DD was in baby grows for at least 9 months. She had reflux and I was worried that anything with a waistband would make it worse. Got some really cute ones and had little cardis to go over the top. YANBU.

RhondaJean · 18/08/2013 20:32

Baby grows are sleepwear and I always found it an important part of routine for us both not to be wearing sleepwear during Thr day.

So yes YAbu.

FennCara · 18/08/2013 20:33

McNewPants oh you know what I mean! Distended stomachs, not much definition.

They just look the wrong shape for trousers. Especially denim.

I'm the wrong shape for denim.

Baby grows are fine to be worn all the time. I personally loved all the cute little outfits that DD had, including jeans, but I was quite lucky that she was rarely sick so she actually managed to keep them on rather than having to constantly change outfits! She was bought a few very cute but impractical outfits that didn't get worn though.

Ignore your sil, it's all about what is best for your baby.

Splitheadgirl · 18/08/2013 20:35

OP, I was all ready to tell you that Babygros CAN by pyjamas as my 20 month old son wears them to bed....but then I read your post and realised what you meant!!

Yes, I totally agree...my three month old daughter LIVES in babygros and she is a helluva lot more comfy than my nephew of the same age who is crammed into hard jeans and squished into shirts!! (The poor thing has an image-conscious dad).

Sallystyle · 18/08/2013 20:37

Mine always wore outfits from day one.

All of them were comfortable soft and stretchy waistbands. They were always happy in them.
