Babygrows aren't pyjamas!

... so are fine to be worn during the day!

Two-piece "outfits" just look so uncomfortable on a newborn. Waistbands? Elastic? They have no waist! They ride up and I find babies awkward to handle in "proper clothes."

I recall ex-SIL pointed out a 'dressed' baby at a party, in jeans and trainers (2 months old) and went on and on that I'd brought mine out in PJs.

DM made similar comment today about my youngest. She's not even three weeks! What's wrong with vests and rompers until they at least have a waist?!

I have never seen hard jeans for babies Hmm

NoComet · 18/08/2013 20:37

Vests , Oh yes those pointless things that make DD1 grizzle. (Despite being a tiny, mid winter baby she always seemed too hot.

Other people are free to dress their DCs however they like.

WallaceWindsock · 18/08/2013 20:38

Both DD and DS wore soft leggings and tops or rompers with dungarees over from a month onwards. All soft cottony fabrics. At 2yo DD has still never worn denim or anything with a hard waistband. You can do comfy clothes without them being baby grows. I personally found soft trousers easier to whip off for nappy changes as less poppers and often poosplosions could be contained in one half of the outfit rather than having to take the whole lot off and start again.

YABU to think babygros are the only comfy option. DD spent her first few months in bright vests and little yoga type pants. She looked sweet and was as comfy as can be, with fewer damn poppers! Babygros are pjs in our house, I like the distinction between day and night clothes, but that it doesn't mean I didn't make sure she wasn't comfortable.

Yy to not dressing babies in mini adult clothes, that is just ugly.

FennCara · 18/08/2013 20:39

Tights! I'd forgotten about tights. Tights and a nappy! Imagine how humid that is. Grim.

X post Wallace! Smile

YANBU.

Vests and baby grows for as long as possible, 'proper' clothes only for special occasions when that young!

MummyPig24 · 18/08/2013 20:41

Babygros are not pjs. They are just clothes for babies. My 2 wore them all the time till about 4 months, then most of the time till about 6 months, mixed in with leggings/joggers and tshirts.

IneedAsockamnesty · 18/08/2013 20:42

I've got a toddler whose walking he does perfectly well in baby grows because we get the ones with the feet dots.when walking out doors he has leggings and tshirts or rompers with a pair of flexable hand made shoes.i do not intend to get him hard shoes until he's about 20 months.

But then again I come from a generation that feels that the longer you leave it without hard soled shoes the better.

My dd is quite odd about the romper and baby grow thing and refers to it as not being dressed she prefers chinos and shirts and going by the gifts she gives to friends with newborns thinks the younger you start this the better. When she has her children she can do this if she wants I personally don't like the ironing involved

miffybun73 · 18/08/2013 20:42

My 2 were in babygros day and night for about the first 12 weeks.

RooRooTaToot · 18/08/2013 20:42

I dressed DS in 'proper' clothes from about 2 weeks. A poppered vest and soft cotton trousers with a wide necked t-shirt or top over it and sometimes a cardigan. He always seemed pretty comfortable (and quick to add/remove layers without the multitude of poppers). He started crawling at 3 months and found his sleep suits a hinderance in the mornings. Also walking at 10 months, which would look rather strange at the park!

At baby groups all babies were in outfits by about 8 weeks.

I don't mind whether others dress their babies in sleep suits until they're 18, but by the same token I expect others to not be judgy that my baby is in vest and trousers!

Splitheadgirl · 18/08/2013 20:43

Samu2...what I meant was ALL jeans are hard for babies!!! I would NEVER dress my babies in jeans.

zoobaby · 18/08/2013 20:44

DS lived in sleepsuits, inside the house AND on outings, until they hampered his burgeoning crawling motion. Now in this hot weather he lives in short sleeved bodysuits as they keep the nappy in situ much better. But I admit that I do add a pair of shorts/pants when leaving the house. We're pretty low maintenance in this household.

Nat38 · 18/08/2013 20:44

I loved to keep my 2 DDs in babygros/sleepsuits during the day as they looked so comfy & were so easy for me regarding the work-load!! ie washing/ironing-anything for an easier life!!ShockGrinGrinGrin
My mum did not approve either, "keeping them in their pyjama`s all day!!"
I think it went on until they were nearly 2ShockShock I just changed to footless ones!!WinkGrin I did dress them properly at that age though if we were going out, like to mums & tots, but not to either parents houses-on;y if I could be bothered there TBH!!Blush

ChunkyPickle · 18/08/2013 20:47

Ugh - babygrows are a pain - I hate all the poppers, and you almost never find them with zips (I've hoarded the ones I have) - having to take so much clothing off to change a nappy is too much of a pain.

For me, it's t-shirt (long-sleeved or short depending on weather) and jersey cotton trousers.

A poppered vest if it's cold to stop gaps.

I do still put them in a baby gro to sleep at night, because I'd hate anything else bunching up so I assume a baby would find it uncomfortable too

ICanSeeTheSeaFromHere · 18/08/2013 20:47

Babygrows have always been pj's in our house. During the day they wore rompers, dresses, dungarees etc. DS and DD1 didn't own jeans until they were at pre-school and DD2 has donated the 3 pairs MIL insists on buying her to the charity shop!

PearlyWhites · 18/08/2013 20:50

There is nothing cuter than a baby in a babygro and a hand knitted cardi. Yanbu.

Meglet · 18/08/2013 20:54

Yanbu. DS wore 'proper' clothes from about 2 months old but DD wore babygrows until she crawled, then it was straight to dungarees.

Cheesyslice · 18/08/2013 20:57

pearly I love hand knitted cardis.

georgettemagritte · 18/08/2013 20:57

Second what pianodoodle said - now DD is crawling I miss the days of the two plastic boxes for vests and babygros! So comfy for baby and practical. Looks much cuter too - hate seeing babies in uncomfy mini adult clothes. They're babies FFS - they can nap anywhere and don't have adult sleep schedules so even if one thought they were just for sleeping in then the logic still doesn't work! My DSis was convinced her babies learned day and night from whether they were wearing a babygro or not - her kids are nearly 2 now and I've still yet to see any evidence they know what they're wearing at any time!

Idislikemymil · 18/08/2013 21:03

Haha. This debate crops up regularly. All mine were in babygros til around 6/8 months. I've never considered what other people think. I always went to mums and tots, friends houses, nursery etc and no one has ever commented on it.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 18/08/2013 21:38

I can assure you my dc3 will be in bsbygros for as long as humanly possible! Although I do tend to start finding poppers irritating so will move onto leggings/tshirts/joggers etc.

The best thing about a babygro is that it doesn't ride up when you put baby in a sling!

bonbonpixie · 18/08/2013 21:51

I dressed my DD in colourful printed babygrows during the day until she was almost 6 months old. I'm pretty sure we both loved them, DD because they were super soft and comfy and me because they we very easy to get on and off and actually I loved it that she looked like a baby, you know when she WAS a baby! For sleeping at night I used the ones with feet and normally the really plain ones.

Kasterborous · 18/08/2013 21:55

YANBU our DD wore them day and night until she was three months old. She was comfy in them, easy to put a cardie over the top if it was cold, easy to wash and change.
