She's come off while mountain biking and I got a call from her boyfriend to come asap. Apparently they have put her on a spinal board. she'd Been out with her bf, my dniece, a friend and step niece and nephew all aged 4-8. My and dh dropped everything and drove an hour down to meet them. Dh now driving kids home to feed and put to bed. Boyf taking bikes home then coming to meet me. I got given directions to the access point the ambulance is getting her from and am here. Ambulance is here, specialist response unit and four by four but no one to be seen. What the hell to do now? Sad

Hand hold. I am so sorry this must have been a terrible shock! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

SweetHoneyBeeeeee · 13/07/2013 19:13

Thanks puds. No idea what to do. Tried ringing the balance centre but no answerSad Think I just have to wait. They have to come back to the ambulance right?

cozietoesie · 13/07/2013 19:14

Wait there. They'll be out collecting her and the last thing they need is to have to go and find you if you get lost. They'll return to their vehicles as soon as they can.

SweetHoneyBeeeeee · 13/07/2013 19:14

I am waiting in the car

So your sis is supposed to be loaded into the ambulance but isn't there? Who put her on the spinal board? Did they take her to hospital?

cozietoesie · 13/07/2013 19:14

They surely will. Best of luck to your sis.

BIWI · 13/07/2013 19:15

Oh goodness. Fingers crossed for you both that she's OK and makes a speedy recovery.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 13/07/2013 19:15

Wait by the vehicles. They have probably had to walk to the accident site.

I should imagine that all accidents like this go on a spinal board.

Try and keep calm xx

SweetHoneyBeeeeee · 13/07/2013 19:16

No idea who put her on the board. Could be paras, could be people from mtb centre. Ambulances here but no paras or sister

knittedslippersx3 · 13/07/2013 19:16

Yes, just wait there. If you try to find them you go in the opposite direction. Hope your ds isn't too badly hurt.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/07/2013 19:16

They are probably carrying her to the ambulance access point. This can take a while if she's on a spinal board as they won't want to bump her. The spinal board may just be a precaution until they can get her to hospital for proper assessment, so try not to worry too much just yet.

Just stay by the ambulance until they turnup - you could call 101 if they're not there soon. Hoping she is ok.

youmeatsix · 13/07/2013 19:16

any chance the ambulance staff are with her but she is being airlifted and they are waiting the heli? they will come back to the ambulance at some point, but she may be on her way by then. can you phone the receiving hospital?

OddBoots · 13/07/2013 19:17

Absolutely stay with the ambulance if you can't see them. Does your sister have a mobile you could call? It might still be with her so someone there could give you an update.

Mama1980 · 13/07/2013 19:18

Another Hand hold here. Yep they'll have to return to the ambulance so sit tight and wait I guess. I hope she's ok x

SweetHoneyBeeeeee · 13/07/2013 19:19

They have just turned up. Four paramedics in total, I guess due to the spinal board. Female one came over and said to wait til they get her in ambulance and do some obs then they will talk to me.

I hope she's ok. Try not to read too much into the spinal board until you know some facts. I was in a car accident (rolled car) once, ran home (was only about 200m down the road) to get my Dad then went back to the car, by which time someone had called police, ambulance etc.

When the ambulance arrived despite me walking around they insisted I went on a spinal board all the way to the hospital - it was all just precautionary.

SweetHoneyBeeeeee · 13/07/2013 19:20

I said to the para I had donor a similar thing a few years ago (I have) and she said 'not this bad'....still waiting in car. shaking but must be strong

mrscog · 13/07/2013 19:21

BTW - I'm not diminishing the worry for you, jut just pointing out that spinal board doesn't always mean horrifically injured.

Fenton · 13/07/2013 19:22

Hold tight. How far from her home is she - is that where the boyfriend has gone to take the bikes back?

I imagine they are being super super careful with taking their time to get back to the vehicles as smoothly as possible.

Everything crossed for you all.
